    Dillinger makes me want to revisit Michael Mann's killer Public Enemies.
    God, I loved Judgement at Nuremberg & Memories of Murder. I cannot stop crying during Montgomery Clift & Judy Garland's cameos in Nuremberg.

    I remember seeing this on TV in the mid-1970s and misremember it as a made-for-TV movie, because it did have two such quasi-sequels, "Melvin Purvis: G-Man" (which was written by Milius) and "The Kansas City Massacre", both directed by miniseries king Dan Curtis. When I just looked it up online, it was interesting to see that the movie was shot on 16mm and enlarged and printed on 35mm for release. And it wasn't California; the whole thing was shot in Oklahoma, with a lot of local amateur actors in minor roles. Little Bohemia was played by a country club in Chickasaw.

    You've probably already heard, but the real-life killer on which Memories of Murder was based was caught. Lee Chun-jae was already serving a life sentence since 1994, but he wasn't charged in these particular murders, because the statute of limitations had passed! (The law has changed now).

      there is famous u.s. based serial killer that copped to anything for the attention and benefits. that's what u get in a liberal non capital punishment state. lies but appease the victims family and improve crime stats for the pigs. its a win win, only the public suffers. it was rampant just a half century ago.

    Interesting that you point out that Memories of Murder is Citizen X is Zodiac and Heartbreak Kid is The Graduate. It comes around to my idea about movies that are not related but would make a good Double/Triple Feature.

    I think Warren Oates was attractive because he always looked like he was up to something. He had a look in his eye that said he knew a secret, and that secret involved *you*. Confidence in his own power. Even in Stripes, where he’s not terribly “attractive”, that quality comes across and gives him a real sense of danger. He’s not some goofy heavy to be trifled with. Even the formidable smirk of Bill Murray had met its match.

    There's a yearly event here in Tucson called Dillinger Days at the Hotel Congress downtown. People get dressed up in gangster garb and dance to old-timey music. I think it's in the summer,, which is kind of dumb. I've never been, but my dad loves it.

    That bit about whether Hoover approved the movie or not makes me think about how many cop/army/government movies there are where the cops/army/government turn out to be the bad guys making me question why they allow movies to make the stories. But then I realized, it's perfect for them; they can easily say that it's just a story and fiction but it makes the audience afraid to mess with them!

    and can you guys do a segment like "seen it" that focuses on a single actor/actress for a continuation for a few vids? i think it's because i'm missing the zatoichi report. i couldn't do those myself because i hate subs and dubs of older legit cinema is hard to come by. but hearing matt talk about it made me invested to zatoichi (sp?). can u guys do that for a quickie add on to unboxing or maybe even a quick 10 min vid bi-weekly? i think i'd prefer a duo to tackle it, if craig has the time. but a 3 part series like that even without would really tingle my dingle.

    Have you guys seen Perfume: Story of a Murderer? Read the book, and then watched the movie recently and lemme just say, the casting choice to get Dustin Hoffman as Baldini was impeccable.

    Seen it, The Spirit of St. Loius? I watched this one last week and immediately the next day, I had a blast watching this one. Jimmy Stewart was a great choice for the role despite his age, because of his pilot background a lot of his movements with the controls were realistic. I also can't help but think that the scenes where they are building the aircraft were inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki in Porco Rosso (my all time favourite Ghibli film by the way :)

    Excellent, excellent episode-- as always! Have you guys seen "The Green Knight"? I couldn't stand this movie and it was probably the worst I've seen in a theater in a long time. Worse still, I took a date to see it. We laughed when (spoilers) the main character jizzes on a magic rag and an old blind woman is in the corner watching(?) it all happen. The date ended fine, the movie did not.

    • @stormcloudsabound
      @stormcloudsabound 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good thing the date ended well, at least. The filmmakers fucked up a nice little myth about getting more than you bargained for, which is almost impressive in its stupidity.
