As a fan of "Drifter" and "Branded", I checked out Suzuki's "Gate of Flesh" earlier this year and was really blown away by it! There's a simmering anger underneath that is quite different from how cheeky "Drifter" is, and it's interesting to see his visual stylings applied to a different setting than gangland or assassins.
Entirely aside from most of the episode, but you and Tony both sang Ghost Town as "this town is *kinda* like a ghost town" - is this a common way to hear the lyrics? I could have sworn it was "this town is *coming* like a ghost town" Thanks for the episodes and show as always!
I tried to watch this this once since I'm a big fan of Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter. Turned it off after about 20 minutes. It was so incoherent, I thought maybe it was evidence that Suzuki had lost his mind.
"It Happened on Fifth Avenue." Great Christmas movie. Capra was supposed to direct it, but he blew it off to direct "It's a Wonderful Life." Check it out.
SEEN IT? Angels With Dirty Faces. Great movie but can we talk about the young actor playing a younger Cagney in the beginning? Holy crap! Did the 1930s develop cloning then destroy that technology afterward. Never has one actor so encapsulate another so perfectly yet have no career after.
Since we're on the topic of Japanese film. Seen it? Any of the Female Prisoner Scorpion series. With those and the Lady Snowblood series, it feels like Meiko Kaji had a lock on female revenge films in Japan for almost a decade.
If you think about how many people Stray Cat has to kill before reaching Hundred Eyes, in a literal sense she has seen a hundred eyes on her way to the top
Matt, I will go you one further - not only did I like Son Of Frankenstein more than Bride of Frankenstein, but I rank BOF 3rd out of the first 3 films! I've never been able to get on board with the accolades showered on BOF. While, of course, I enjoyed it, there are three strikes against it in my book: (1) the over-the-top silliness of Una O'Connor's character, (2) the over-the-top silliness of Dr Pretorius' tiny people in a jar (3) the monster sparing Dr F's life at the end - it didn't feel organic.
Have you ever seen Andrzej Żuławski's Possession? I wanted to see it when I saw still frames of the subway scene, I finally bit the bullet and rented it, the film was nothing like what I expected and I haven't stopped thinking about it. WHY WAS THE GERMAN GUY THE WIFE WAS HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH DANCING IN ALL HIS SCENES!?!?!?!
Tony is my favorite guest in any BlameSociety production. Dude is just hilarious, insightful, and an all around good vibe.
My favorite series on TH-cam! I wish more people appreciated film like you! 🍻 cheers!
You could see Matt's brain being devoured over the course of the movie. 😂
Seen it: Sukyaki Western Django? I saw it years ago and I can still vividly recall many of the scenes.
Such a crazy fun movie. I love it!
Yellow is related to be happiness or youth in Japan. きいろいくちばし (Yellow beak) means inexperienced. きいろいこえ (yellow voice) means child like voice.
Makes perfect sense for our main character then! Thank you for this! :)
I got so excited when I saw this in my subscriptions! Also the Taisho Trilogy is excellentttttt
Love when Tony visits! Great episode, very funny with the edits of Matt's reaction to this very weird movie.
Pistol Opera felt like it could have been an episode of Cowboy Bebop
It didn’t make the cut but I said the same thing during the opening credits!
The only Seijun Suzuki movie I saw was Legend of the Gold of Babylon, apparently that was just a little taste of how weird his movies are.
We need a special edition return of the Zatoichi Report!
Putney Swope panic was strong with this one.
Tony's Mathau made me double-take
Stray Cat really rocked that town
Tonys a prince needs a regular slot Tony Tuesdays 1st Tuesday of the month !
Damn this has good vibes. Great movies suggestions at least

"I said 'let's go' at a bathhouse once and I made a lot of new friends" - This one got me Mr. Sloan - very nicely delivered.
🎺... 🎺🎺🎺🎺.......🎺🔊 !
"What do you have against hundred eyes?"
"Whadda ya got?"

Gesundheit.
I love The Name of the Rose. One of my favourites. The guy who plays Venerable Jorge has such a FACE.
Son of Frankenstein is also my favorite!
@10:56: 🥸🤳😂

Hausu!
The intro theme sounds like Portillo’s before Dick sold it. RIP.
@5:05: 😂😭💀
Is that ghost town song a real song?
From England’s own The Specials.
Oddball question, but Played It? Mystery of the Abbey boardgame which is like playing the Name of the Rose?
Seen it! Donovan’s Reef starring John Wayne
Calamity chowder.
Can you guys review more of Suzuki's films like Tokyo drifter and branded to kill?
Have you guys seen Takashi Miike's Ichi the Killer? That'd be one wild Welcome to the Basement!
SEEN IT? Angels With Dirty Faces. Great movie but can we talk about the young actor playing a younger Cagney in the beginning? Holy crap! Did the 1930s develop cloning then destroy that technology afterward. Never has one actor so encapsulate another so perfectly yet have no career after.
WE ARE WATCHONG A SUZUKI LETS GOOOO MATT
Scene it? Lenny, from 1974.
All the hosts are doing a great job! But the OG Craig is missed. Happy almost Turkey Day!

I'm watching The Driver right now on your recommendation.
Are we gonna get new zatoichi reports?
The return of the Putney Swope Panic.
On Christmas day, try Santa Claus is Comin to Town
@8:01: 🙊🙉😂
Pistol Opera strikes that note for me that is "baffle 'em with bullshit." I guess it could work for someone .... else.
I've figured out that I'm not necessarily turned off by "art films," but if "tell a coherent story" isn't somewhere on the film's agenda, I'm out.
Whoa, I don't quite believe I'm first !
Thank you for all the years of good times.
There, that's about it.
This movie is a lot like "Kill Bill" vol#1🍅
oh ok now i fully understand kill bill.
Chekhov's Library?
Sexiest burp of all time.

After watching this, Im going to go get sushi... AND NOT PAY!

WHY WAS THE GERMAN GUY THE WIFE WAS HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH DANCING IN ALL HIS SCENES!?!?!?!
Seen it! Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law as Doctor Watson
Dark Horse, aka other Hundred Eyes, totally looks like he should have been a sparkly vampire.
This was a strange strange film.
So the guy in a wheelchair has to use his wheelchair as a ghost?
Odd Couple is delightful. Watch the movie before you try the TV series.
Dude, nwould you mind working on the sounding a bit? The new videos sound so bad compared to the old ones
