Love the choice for the background LP, Big Iron is a classic track (thank you Fallout New Vegas) but the rest of the album has such a clear, vivid sound and vibe to it.
Scene it? David Lowery's Ghost Story. Watched this movie tonight with my friends. Pie eating scene aside, I'd be interested in knowing your thoughts on this film. You get a surprising amount of emotion out of a guy covered in a bed sheet the whole movie who has no dialog.
Marlene Dietrich is amazing in Dishonored, The Scarlet Empress, Shanghai Express, Witness for the Prosecution, & Judgement at Nuremberg. She wasn't a great singer, but captivating as an actress.
Basement crew, I know you are known more as Star Wars fans, but I wonder if you have seen the Star Trek movies. I have been getting back I to watching Star Trek and would like to know your thoughts on Star Trek 4.
That broach scene really poked at something you always see in movies. Necklaces are always pulled perfectly off someone's neck and then if they ever get it back it's automatically fixed. In the late 90s early 2000s there was a 1-800 sales number selling a necklace that had the secret to that. Just had to point that out.
I really like this movie because it’s intentionally hokey and the outdoor scenes are so obviously fake like they’re paintings. The passive Indian guy who tended horses at the hideout ranch was Rodd Redwing, the great technical gun, sword, bullwhip movie coach. He probably coached this film and in real life could wipe the floor with all these great movie bad guys and character actors when it came to fast draw and trick shooting.
It really seems like Madeline Kahn's character in Blazing Saddles borrowed heavily from Altar Keane. Especially during the singing. I got real "I'm Tired" vibes from her.
Okay I just had some sort of psychic moment. My mind was wandering a bit during scene it and I thought “ I wonder if they’ve mentioned Strictly Ballroom before. I’d love for them to watch it but maybe they’ve already mentioned it on scene it…I can’t remember” and then the next thing I hear is Matt reading a letter mentioning Strictly Ballroom. Anyway, watch it. It would definitely make a good Valentine’s day episode.
Until right now, I would have said that niether Lang nor Dietrich were even alive in the 50s, not to mention making movies still. Thanks for the education.
'Rancho Notorious' sounds like a sequel to 'Nacho Libre'. Wait...there's a cast member with the last name of 'Ferraday'? Possible long lost relative of mine? ROFL
The first couple minutes remind me of something: We should all give thanks to our respective deities for living in an era where people have finally figured out how to train and cast competent child actors. Godawful kid thespians used to be so omnipresent, but I can't remember the last time I saw a truly terrible child actor in a recent movie.
I know as a successful youtube channel, you have little incentive to take technical advice from random commenters, assuming you even see this. But I have to respectfully ask: Please stop panning your respective audio tracks during the discussion segments. The main effect for people who use stereo speakers are that both dialogue tracks are unnecessarily thin and spatially disconcerting. Your voices are already distinct enough, and your conversation is not an atmospheric noise collage where the spatial differentiation enhances the effect. I feel like a dick for complaining when I get so much enjoyment out of your videos, but it's so disconcerting and unignorable to me as a humble viewer. I just don't get it and I keep praying that each new video will be different but it never is. Please consider mixing the audio differently in the future. Thank you.
Please review SCARAMOUCHE 1952 with Janet Leigh. Awesome movie that reminded me of Star Wars. That sword 🗡️ fight at the end was AWESOME ACTION FUN. GOTTA CHECK IT OUT 😜
I love every time they show that Lost Weekend clip
Every now and then an old movie comes along and I say to myself: "I bet Quentin Tarantino saw this when he was young."
I got that feeling when I watched the original Taking of Pelham One Two Three
You mean like pretty much every movie?
Been watching since last year of middle school, glad you both have been in good health for so long.
Here's to many more.
Seen it: The Naked Jungle. 1954. Charlton Heston. How you two fellas can remember details from so many movies and songs simply amazes me.
Anyone else cheer loudly at 11:19?
A new episode! Yay!
Thanks, fellas. (And Tona).
Whoa I don't even remember when I asked that, been watching since day 1 (well, pre day 1) and finally made Scene It!
I had one last year that I didn't remember asking also! Funny how long they hold on to some of them
"Ladies...can't we just fornicate?" got me. Hahahaha

Does...does Craig think you need to kill a horse to get it's shoes?
Craig, shoes don't grow on horses.
This episode makes me appreciate the Marlene Dietrich jokes in Blazing Saddles in a new way
Any chance of continuing the unbroken line backwards to the dawn of feature films? The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906)?
Nothing like a welcome to the basement episode after a 12 hour shift

they discuss the movie in the episode of The Caine Mutiny
Ever see Arlington Road? I think it's underrated movie. It's interesting.
was that a fitzcarraldo reference at 9:17?
What actually is the origin episode of The Lost Weekend bat episode, I forgot and can't remember!

Where do I go to properly place movie ideas for the show or scene it?
Gotta love the offbeat westerns where all the female love interests are killed or abandoned, leaving the homoerotic subtext triumphant.
I am sure Madeline Kahn patterned her singing in Blazing Saddles after the tavern singer in this movie.

Have you ever seen Almodovar's "All About My Mother"? I watched it my freshman year of college in an intro to film class and it really stuck with me
"So run, don't mosey, to "The Tea Cozy"."
Matt has the rocking pneumonia and the boogie woogie ague

I was thinking this too!
Yes, Brooks and Kahn both acknowledged that Marlene was a big inspiration.
Marty Robbins Big Iron On His Hip!!

John Kellogg makes the Best Cereal
The reason all the cars in code46 are from 2003 may be due to the fact it was made in 2003 hahaha
Seen it: 7 Faces of Dr. Lao
Chug... Chug-A-Lug Ranch?
Suggestion: Forbidden Zone! Danny Elfman! Insanity! The Kipper Kids! Hervé Villechaize! Black and white! Music! Songs! Unnecessary blackface!

Chad Vader welcome to the basement. Lol.
danybell whats that smell its danybell
The vinyl in the background of the cold open infuriates me no end knowing that Matt knows nor cares naught for video games
Kryptorope? I think the proper term is "kryptoknot."
I'm going to fight you both.
What this woman needed was a concealable small caliber firearm and a bit of prescience
