I agree with a lot of your points. Power isn’t everything and STI designed a complete car. I’m currently in the process of adding all of the JDM STi goodies on mine. I’m actually going with the S208 Bilsteins instead of the S209 or other OEM Bilsteins. The S208 was actually better, in many ways, than the S209.
My favorite S line car (other than a 22b) is the S207 which is very similar to S208. I would say they are two very different cars, and STI motorsports Japan did the best they could to optimize both ej207 and ej257 platforms using different strategies, which cultivates into two very different cars in s208 and s209. Before owning s209, I believed s208 to be a better car with a twin scroll ball bearing vf58 setup that can make ~325 hp all the way to an 8k rpm redline, which I am sure is fantastic to drive. I was blown away, though, when I drove the s209, which had such a confidence inspiring, linear power band, and significant upgrades to handling, as well as wider fender flares to accommodate the larger wheel/tire setup, that which cannot be found in the JDM counterpart. At this point I cannot say which is truly better, I hope to be able to drive an s208 someday to be able to weigh in on that argument. Thanks for watching!
@@TheLastS209 The S209 definitely looks better. But I don’t understand why they didn’t use the S208 seats for the S209; maybe because the average American consumer is bigger. I believe the S208 also has EL headers. If you haven’t already, check out the NASIOC forums. There’s a couple of guys with S208 turbos in their EJ257s; they’re sort of taking the best parts from the S cars and putting them all in one to create the ultimate STi.
@@jazzblaster I think you're referring to stinicktuned or wrxnick or whatever his name is- he ended up selling that setup because he couldn't get it to work due to emissions issues since he lived in California. I am well aware of that forum post on nasioc and was really interesting to read about the area under the curve graphs between s208 and s209. But personally I think specs are only just that- there is a completely different experience when you drive a car and how it feels to drive vs what you read on a spec sheet. This is why I dream to drive an S line car from Japan someday for a true comparison!
@@TheLastS209 I was actually talking about Archer1.8. Funnily enough, I think he was the one who bought the setup from the user you mentioned and apparently it’s amazing. It’s cool because it’s a sort of hybrid S208/S209 set up, taking the best of both cars. I would never go to that level for the engine but it’s cool to see.
Extremely well-balanced is the key to these S-models. Brakes, steering, tyres/wheels, transmission and suspension that match the power and manage the handling perefctly. Had an S208 for 5 years now; all that I have added is the flexible draw stiffener in the trunk and a brake-master cylinder stopper. Handles the family shopping trips and the winding mountainous roads. Used to do a little forest rallying many decades ago, and the first thing everybody did to make the cars faster was to install better brakes! Engine mods came last, after twin cable carburettor linkages!
I think the s207/208 models already come with 6/4 brembos, the fronts are a two piece rotor and they use STI brake pads. It is actually a better brake setup than what they put on the S209 from factory. But of course this can still be upgraded to an even better setup! I completely agree with you, these S cars are so well balanced and engaging to drive. If the S209 came with Sportster CS STI seats like the S207/208, I would not have switched out my driver seat as well! I do really enjoy the Recaro podium bucket seat I just recently put in, over the US Recaro seat which is made for heavier Americans and also stricter safety regulations here in the US
I really appreciate what Subaru has done with the STI. I owned a 2017 WRX, and I purchased my 2020 STI last Year January of 2022 and the difference is awesome. I'm glad you have the S209 brother. In my opinion Subaru designed a perfect street race car.

Punctuation would benefit the people that you are wanting to communicate with. Also, of course a Modified car should be able to be better than a stock car. The S209 is very expensive for what it is, but it is the Pinnacle of the VA platform from the STI factory. It's a special car that many people will never get to experience.
The spoiler on the s209 is the only thing that kills it for me. Looks like the end pieces are on backwards.. and for the price point.. to each their own though
did any of the vanilla 15+ sti's come with IC spray? thats a feature I want. Especially with top mounted inter coolers. with the s209 price tag it better come from factory satisfactory. May I suggest a fluid damper crank pulley as a proactive longevity mod.
Doesn't come standard on 15+ STIs, but there are kits out now to retrofit them on the VA chassis, although they are a bit pricey and the install isn't easy. Ic water sprays I believe came standard on gd STIs, and people used to remove them for weight reduction 😂
That can be fixed with a well designed muffler, a lot of them come from the JDM world. I recommend fujitsubo, HKS, blitz, greddy, etc. Be sure to like and subscribe, thanks for watching!
At this point only the rotor and brake pads- I ordered endless two piece front rotors and one piece rear, as well as mx72 circuit pads. These are compatible with the stock calipers on the s209. I probably won't do a complete endless bbk conversion, i still want the s209 to be somewhat streetable and not just a dedicated track car!
Yes! I also have a 987.2 S which you've spotted in the video. Hope to upgrade to a 997.2 911 someday. Be sure to like and subscribe. Thanks for watching!
I'd say not a lot, so all these ppl claiming they can take any regular STI and make it better have 1) never driven their cars to the limit and 2) never driven an s209. STI is a great car to track and has a really solid foundation, and honestly most starting modifcations should be improving the chassis/suspension to help the cornering abilities. Most owners, however, jump directly into engine modification to make more hp.
I've undercoated my previous STI before, I think I'd rather just not risk it and store the car in the winter. I have a winter beater anyway - for a special car like the S209 I'd rather just do all my performance driving during track and autocross season
Its advertised that way but I wonder, everyone thats driven it says the ratio feels faster. Find someone with an RA and base STI and do a lock to lock steering wheel comparison to confirm ratios are the same. Mounting points and bracing could also be different in the S209 making the rack tighter and more responsive
I agree with everything you say but my still still handles better than the s209 for far cheaper I have upgraded kw coilers front and rear sway bars upgraded control arms upgraded bushings engine sway bar end links but I get what your saying you completely forgot to mention you can upgrade all the suspension and still be tens of thousands cheaper than the s209 and make it better but the s209 is still special
I've done all that on my 2015 launch edition. I had all the things you had except I had ohlins and it still didn't handle better, even with the s209 Bilstein dampers with STI lowering springs. There's a difference when a person goes to aftermarket suspension for upgraded components, versus a motorsports team that dials in the suspension for you from factory, based on their learnings from their professional racing events.

I know base model STI’s that have been modded that would eat that s209 up on an auto cross track I’ve seen it yes s209 and the type RA are amazing cars I love them I’m a Subaru fan boy but I’ve seen a stock s209 get eaten up by a modded base STI doing auto cross agian great car in my opinion way over priced for other cars you can buy and have better components I get what your saying about the whole engineering race team but they developed that car to also be daily driven as well so to sit there and say it will preform better than a regular STI that was built for autocross is crazy to me agian I love Subaru and love these hand built small batch cars but to say it’s better than something is just your opinion or to say the engineers in Japan are better at building race cars then someone else is your opinion people have been improving upon factory cars since the invent of cars so to say something is better is just your opinion, maybe before you mod your car you should take it to an autocross event and see how you do racing those modded STI’s from the factory it’s a great car BUT it can always be made better to preform better and it MY OPINION I’ve seen many STIS base STIs preform better than that s209 on an autocross track I take nothing away from the team who designed that car and all that went into but to say it’s better than modded STIS that are built for autocross is Ludacris when I see you take your s209 to an autocross event STOCK and compete with these guys who have poured there blood sweat and tears into there STIS to make them better than your S209 maybe my opinion will change but for you to sit there and say it’s better is just your opinion just like it’s my opinion that someone can build a base sti into a better autocross car than your factory s209 agian this is with all due respect i would also argue I’ve seen built WRXS that S209 would have trouble keeping up with during an autocross event not to mention you can have the best built car from factory if you cannot drive it , it means absolutely nothing now if you wanna take a stock s209 and a stock STI with drivers that have the same autocross racing experience then yea I believe your s209 would win but someone who has built there STI specifically for autocross I don’t see your stock s209 hanging with it.
Beautiful car BTW I love it.
I've seen modded STIs get eaten by stock STIs in autox. In autox a lot of the time it's not the car, it's the driver that makes the car fast
Looks like the end pieces are on backwards.. and for the price point.. to each their own though
im not a big fan of spoilers on cars i could be wrong they really dont
come in play until you reach 160-180 plus mph on that kind of spoiler
My 2021 STI weighed a tad over 3300 lb with 2011 BBS sti wheels.
The only thing that S209 is missing is the S208 seats
From Massachusetts as well!
did any of the vanilla 15+ sti's come with IC spray? thats a feature I want.
My crappy hatch has a shitty exhaust note. Too loud, burbly, and way too much back-pressure
That can be fixed with a well designed muffler, a lot of them come from the JDM world. I recommend fujitsubo, HKS, blitz, greddy, etc. Be sure to like and subscribe, thanks for watching!
perfect car......brazil here
What’s wrong with the carbon driveshaft?
That thing drones so deep lol
I ❤️ My S209 , it’s a beast !
I own #47/209 it’s only got 16K on it, I call it my dust collector 🤣🤣
🤔🤔🤔 it really should have the 2.4dit , We should take a ride
Ok I saw one just like that nice 😮
by the way you only wanna change endless rotor and brake? or you also wanna swap out caliper
U a porsche guy too ,i have a porsche 968 1992 safari
Yes! I also have a 987.2 S which you've spotted in the video. Hope to upgrade to a 997.2 911 someday. Be sure to like and subscribe. Thanks for watching!
Luar biasa bli
Luar biasa bli indeed
How many people actually track their car?
I'd say not a lot, so all these ppl claiming they can take any regular STI and make it better have 1) never driven their cars to the limit and 2) never driven an s209. STI is a great car to track and has a really solid foundation, and honestly most starting modifcations should be improving the chassis/suspension to help the cornering abilities. Most owners, however, jump directly into engine modification to make more hp.
Ppl willing to replace motor
boxer life
trade you my 2017 STi limited :P
Will you sell your stock exhaust?
I can if you want it, at the right price
right off the rip i notice this guy is making 19+lbs of boost - max on my 2020 sti it only hits 18.4 T_T
Don't lose sleep over that.
@@ii_dynasty I mean I didnt lol Sti 10x more fun to drive than the wrx i had
its its manual whats the pedals for?
Intercooler spray
thumbs up
Thanks!
Do sparco gloves help hp?
Helps keep that ultrasuede steering wheel super clean
get it under coated bro
I've undercoated my previous STI before, I think I'd rather just not risk it and store the car in the winter. I have a winter beater anyway - for a special car like the S209 I'd rather just do all my performance driving during track and autocross season
No straight pipe no 500 hp then there’s no need for this car 🤦♂️
the steering ratio is different in the 209 than base STI's
It should be the same. The JDM s207/208 have quicker steering ratio compared to usdm models, though
@@Crazy8ts I've also wondered this, I'll see what I can find!
Me want
I read allot about the S209. The fact that this cars is basically handcrafted by STI, makes allot of sense the handling difference between an standard STI and the S209. Back few years when this car was going to launch I got the information that it’s was going to be a very limited edition. In order for me to get me one I had to signed the request and wait to see if I could get me one. By that time the selling price was well over 60K.
It seem like you have one. Dude if you sell it you will regret it all your life…
I ended buying a 2015 Miata limited club edition which is also a great car and know by fact that it’s a collection car. I only drive like 5K miles per years and like you, will never sell it.
@@ericpizarro3084 the fact that the ej25 STI is discontinued, along with the constant pressure for zero emissions policies made me decide to purchase an s209. In just a few years, the market will be flooded with hybrid/EVs that will be a bore to drive, that is where the manual sports cars of old will bring out it's value, and I expect the s209 and your Miata club to appreciate when that time comes. Thanks for watching!
The douche gloves were to much for me.
They keep the steering wheel clean, and it's like middle of winter so keeps my hands nice and warm
@@TheLastS209 i do the same in my Type RA. The oem steering wheel is a nightmare to maintain.
@@ACCAW11 use the sonax interior cleaner if it ever gets dirty. I find it to be the best interior steering wheel cleaner on the market and super easy to apply
Damn , crazy part is that with my 22 wrx intake and exhaust plus tune I'll smoke that 😂😂😂. That's without ethanol 😳
I'm really excited to see all the new vb wrx at the track these next couple of years!
Lol no it won't
@Ian Holmquist Yes it will 😂😂😂 .
@Ian Holmquist The VBs are making 400 TQ and about 340 wheel hp literally with and intake and ethanol. Imagine full bolt on and a good tune.
@@kbfan2424 I mean if you watched my whole video I talk about how all wrx/STI owners care about are numbers. It's really a shame that owners in this community know nothing about what makes a performance car what it is. Bring your vb wrx to your local track - I can almost bet your tuned vb wrx will be in the novice class and will get smoked by the 100 hp experienced Miata owners.
