37 lbs geeeez fuk that
Those center caps are hard… are they carbon fiber as well?
You can run the seat belt clicker through the side hole in the seat but you will have to take it back out to rerun obviously.
Nice!! Tyres and wheels!! You sound like you know a hell of a lot more about tyres than I do so I'd like to ask your opinion on the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06? For street and light track?
@@fredastaire6156 nah if it's just a street car and you don't want to buy tires frequently then you can buy dws06. Otherwise it's not a tire you should ever take to the track
This is awesome! Finally, someone with the sense that weight reduction yields greater dividends than simply HP increase. I love this stuff! I'm particularly interested in getting the CF drive shaft (and recently found a guy that sells TSS fab front and rear subframes and while Im under the car I might as well get those done. Oh!! and that Antigravity battery is a must!! (Mines a 04 STi, curb weight of about ~ 3200lbs) Great channel, thanks for posting this content!
@@fredastaire6156 absolutely! The weight reduction once all complete makes the car handle so much better, improved performance across the board. I am at ~3250 now, these S209 are fat pigs. Thanks for the comment!
Great Lap! I have S209 #53. Wondering how you feel the car on track? I did track S209 couple times but don't like the stock tune. Are you running stock tune or? And BTW, your video of weight saving is amazing. Very helpful!
I believe I'm running cobb ots tune for S209 in this video. Recently I reached out to Mike McGinnis over at innovative tuning. He was the one who developed the Cobb ots tune for s209. I worked with him to develop a custom map for the s209 which I am currently using now.
@@TheLastS209 how do you feel the new tune? And what mods are you done on the engine wise? Thanks!
@@jayp8327 Fully stock engine, other than HKS titanium exhaust. The new tune feels more linear and safer for track use.
No straight pipe no 500 hp then there’s no need for this car 🤦♂️
Looks awesome
you swapped back to stock rotors and pads correct? why did the endless not work?
I was getting vibrations mid session on track. They were overheating. I will try them again next season with me20s and see how it goes
Awesome video. I also have a s209 and have been tracking it a few times. My front sway bar bushing keep popping off after a few laps. Also the dealer is telling me that my flexible draw stiffeners have become loose over time. Have you encountered any of these problems? Thanks
does it come with single scroll set up?
@@dhruvkadun9059 yes
where did you buy these from again??
GC build! The best Impreza chassis IMHO and I've owned nearly all of them. If you're still looking for a vf30, check the video at the time I linked below. I got a spare, over my right shoulder, lol. th-cam.com/video/d86JEaDiwcA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Mr88-U7mW70HRJoK&t=1030
Dude. Just found the channel and love it! Ive been preaching that hp is not near as important as weight savings on my channel for a while and finally others are starting to see that. My content is about my swapped GC that weighs 2750lbs. Its a track beast...
@@traviscea it's hard to find ppl with this mindset, all the Subaru owners just want to make power, but a lot don't realize you can't put that power down anywhere on a track. You end up with a huge power rush, then you have to over brake, losing a lot of time in corners, rather than smooth momentum driving with stock power levels, and better cornering speeds with less weight and focus on suspension and handling upgrades.
@@traviscea also I just subscribed and will check out your vids!
The god looks better on the blue and the gray would look best on the white. Seems like they got this mixed up good thing you made it right! Maybe next time around go with the Moton suspension as they can be upgraded in the future from 1-way all the way up to the 4-way.
Very cool that you were able to meet the cheap engineer and get his signature. You could always focus on the exhaust header, cooling and heat management upgrades to improve the car while keeping the STi racing spirit.
Source a local frame chassis or fab shop to straighten out those pinch welds and weld up a jack lifting plate to permanently resolve that issue.
@@DJ_Driven it's definitely on my list!
Does APR now pre-drill the holes or offer their own template for easy install to the chassis mounting points?
@@DJ_Driven nope. I wouldn't recommend them even if they did.
DONT DO CASTROL SRF. I just wished out of that fluid because I was getting boil over and brakes were inconsistent on the track after years of using it and doing research I heard they changed our compound and the Lamborghini super tropho team stopped using it.. I switched to Endless 650 fluid in my race car..going to try that out as I’ve heard nothing but great things
@@NicholasZak I'm having no issues with it, it's been way more durable than motul rbf 650. I will try endless at some point too to compare
Can you show the s209 flares up close? Wondering if they cut the fenders below the overfenders or if they are just layed on like the aftermarket kits?
DOES THIS WOMAN HAVE GLOVES ON???? LMFAOOOOOO GTFOHHHHHH
Hey! what do you think of the Motoiq guys on youtube? always talking about "baller" builds with oil pan baffles, aos etc. is all that really beneficial at all?
@@dancingcalcium I myself have a killer b super EJ oil pan/baffle/pickup. I think it's one of the best things you can do to prevent oil starvation from high lateral g corners experienced at the track. If doing just a street build, it's not necessary at all. Motoiq has a lot of interesting videos, but a lot of it is marketing hype, like their video on aos. An aos for Subarus is not absolutely essential and adds just another failure point. For instance, if you have minimal blowby, then why do you need an aos? A lot of ppl buy into all these reliability mod myths, I think the data has shown they don't do anything except make your pockets thinner. If you want really good Subaru content on how to make Subarus reliable follow flatironstuning, they have a video on this, and you'll find out that their list involves no actually modifications to buy. It's all maintenance.
You forgot to put "Binaural" in your description. Also, if you don't have stickers on your vehicle, you are basically a Prius.

do you actually have the last 209 of the s209?!?! that's pretty cool if you do bro
I’m going to buy this car in the next couple of year, just to drive it to keep the motor lubed 😂😂😂. Sold my 2018 sti a few years ago, man I miss it. So s209 is what I’ll be looking to get back. And having another daily so I don’t rack to much on the s209. In your handbook. It’ll tell you every 5k miles to do oil change. With the turbo and how much power this car produces. Your oil will be gone by 3k miles. Change your oil at 3k, you won’t have any issues.
@@1nahalfmen980 there's one for sale currently. I know an owner who is looking to sell.
Very cool
Is it good for daily drive 130 km a day with mixed city and high way Total 4000 km per month Or I can use the normal 5w 40 Knowing temperature reached over 40 this summer and how long should I drain it 10k or 15
I like to change oil every 3k miles, for street driving I recommend Motul 5W40 Xcess, for track and performance driving I recommend Motul 300V 5W40.
Hi bro I’m getting these for my 94 NSX and wondering what the ohm resister is for ; do I need it for my install?
Probably not, for STI I needed it to disable the airbag light
What tyre pressure are you running? I've found on my (regular VA) STI, lower pressure than normal really settles down the car and makes me more confident. 28F/27R psi on the street
@@raicuandi mid 30s hot
@@TheLastS209 I'm not familiar with your RE71Rs, but I still wonder if it will react better to a couple of psi lower than that. -4psi made a huge difference for me. Hope you get into 1:49 next time, good luck!

Holy crap. I feel like I just overclocked my car. All the electronics responds twice as fast. It definitely cranks up quicker. When I corner balanced my car, they always said it’d be better if my battery was in the trunk. I’m sure shaving all that frontal weight is noticeable in my corner balance.

Go find an industrial estate to bed your brakes.
Side mirrors. Titanium exhaust one exit noble makes one it’s full titanium great price great weight savings. The Stis don’t make enough horsepower to care for a dual. Back on the side mirrors get carbon you’d be surprised how much just those factory ones weigh. I’m currently moving but when I’m moved I’m making a full carbon floor mat that will mount to the seat bolts that way I can take out the carpet in the whole car. That was a lot of weight on my evo 9 rs that I had as a daily. Crash beam front and rear remove and replace with aluminum will save weight. Move wiper fluid to rear and battery to rear gets you closer to 50/50 weight distribution when you do ti exhaust.. door cards carbon saves weight. Speakers remove and put into seats smaller speakers. Saves weight and on those long trips you can still rock hard.. can’t think of other things right now. Not bad video. Seems like your starting keep it up.
Yeah this is a great list. After I reach my goal of 1:49 at my local track, then I plan on another ~100 lb of weight reduction, gonna get it close to 3200 lbs. That's the most I'll do, I don't want to get to the point of no return with this car, if you know what I mean.
Loving these GC8 videos!
No better car to fall in love with up keep with.
Very cool! Not sure there is any former owner I would trust more than the Subaru Only guy. Love his and your channels, and I’m very much looking forward to this build! 😊👍
Welcome to the meaneye family
Nice driving! I'm Ryan with the copper red rx8 at devens that has been the starter a couple times. I just did Thompson a couple weeks ago, but maybe I will see you out on track one day, Palmer is definitely on my list for this summer 😎
Before you pull the trigger on P1 springs, the 22B didn't use those springs. The Prodrive P1 was UK only special model, that used red inverted struts, probably made by kyb, not bilstein. I know RCM got bilstein and eibach to manufacture another run of 22B struts and springs and they sell the whole bundle on their website for 5000 pounds. Mayyybe they'll sell you the springs by themselves. The s209 has a quicker steering ratio for sure. I don't think Luke ever changed from the stock 2.5rs steering rack. It's certainly possible to install a 2015+ sti steering rack the s209 has into the GC chassis, though usually the front crossmember needs to be modified with an angle grinder, both the inner and outer tie rods need to be shortened, and it needs the 2015+ power steering pump. Alternatively, there's a company in Poland called PRS that rebuilds steering racks with quicker gears offering a LHD rack for GCs. The rack is slightly quicker than the s209 and is direct bolt on as far as I know. You have to contact them through facebook though.
Woah that is great knowledge. Thanks for letting me know about this polish group. I'll definitely check to see if I can source a new steering rack from them
They are not cheap. I think it was $1050 last time I looked, maybe that was euros though, and I'm not sure if it includes shipping. Still probably less hassle than cutting the car and fooling with fluid lines to make the 2015 rack work. Everyone who's ever done it says it's worth it though. Oh and also, the 8k redline on the JDM EJ20s is a bit misleading. The engine has such a strong midrange that it's faster to short shift at about 7k rpm. There's a Best Motoring episode where they take a STI type ra-r to the nurburgring and they find that laptimes are better when short shifting like this. So, the high redline is mostly just useful so the driver isn't forced into awkward shift points.
