People that haven’t worked for themselves , or family , on farms won’t ever understand. It’s an uphill battle in this day and age. A lot of these people think farming is some relaxed , fun , merry-go-round like a Saturday morning tv show . They don’t know the 24/7 stress of worry about weather , cattle , fences , equipment, finances … it ain’t easy
I've never understood people that say they can't sleep, i can sleep anywhere, hell even standing up 😂. Too many people don't have a clue of what exhausted is 😴😴. Good luck with the future plans 👍
I've fallen asleep mowing hay. I guess the hum of a discbine is soothing .😂 Even the clicking of the hayrake has put me out. 😂 For some reason never running the chopper 🤣🤣
I’m not a person who generally likes talking videos but yours I can watch from beginning to end and not skip at all. Your content is great. It’s the fucking truth and it’s awesome 😆. I wanna see the people who call you lazy do everything themselves like you’ve had to do. People who comment negative shit got absolutely nothing better to do. Give ‘em something to talk and complain ab 😂. Its another view and comment and it only pushes your channel further. As long as you keep making videos I’ll keep watching 👍🏻
Thanks. I try to mix it up. It's harder than it would seem to have constantly interesting content. I don't want to like other channels that think polish and power wash vids are interesting . 🤣 It is usually better to ignore negative people but sometimes you just have to give it back, just don't obsess about it like some do.
one thing i did that people make fun of me for but i dont care is i was able to rent a very rough piece of pasture land over near me and i wanted to put beef cows on it but im pretty well broke and cant borrow any money because i dont have any credit. anyway i was able to pick and choose some very cheap longhorn/corriente cows from the salebarn most of which i paid $200 to $350 a head and now have 25 of them out there with a beef bull. they calve year round and that has been a lifesaver for making some money and having a calf or 2 to sell once a month
The last 3 mornings we have had a heavy layer of frost. Oats and peas going in now here but few guys have beans in for a few weeks now and a few guys corn.
Ya i dont have any desire to leave farm. I like staying home i dont need see or be anywhere else. Im happy doing work an projects on own land everyday. World is gone to hell i aint need be no part of it
i am selling off ALLLL my extra equipment at auction saturday. every one wants to know why? i remain silent! it all comes from for years some one needed help i would go my time my equipment and help them out for FREE being a good neighbor! then a few years ago i got in some trouble health wise. i called people i helped and asked for help and SURE we can come. we charge so much for this and so much for that plus labor charge. so i left stuff i couldnt handle sit! THEN in fall 5 months after i asked for help people called me can you come pick or combine corn or bring your skid loader or fall plow for us. i said SURE here is what i charge. just like they told me! all of a sudden i became a mean A#&HOLE!!!! i have had a chance to talk to a few guys and said ALLLLL the years i helped you and asked for NOTHING!!! THEN they understood.............................well maybe??
Yep same thing here. I started figuring that out a couple years ago and quit wasting my time asking. Of course I got further behind which led to the situation it's led to. It's also led to my jaded attitude and not caring that I told a relative to find someone else to work his ground.
If you’re looking for a side gig this fall , let me know what you’d charge to bring bagger and tractor over. I’d like to fill a bag up. I’d love to put some silage up!
I'd need to find out a fair rate for a tractor but I've been charging for a 200 foot bag $800 plus the bag which last year was $550. I can also get 150 foot bags.
@@Mad_Farmer912 I still gotta see if I can get a chopper and wagon before September.. that’s the goal anyways, if not I’ll have to ear pick it and put in crib and grind it for the cows. I thought about doing a small pack mound but without a lot of head I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep ahead of the spoil.
From what I can tell there might be 10 to 12 dairy farms left in Erie County and around 50 in Crawford County. All of Northwest Pa was dotted with dairy farms and they sadly keep dropping like flies. The Amish used to have a lot of dairies around here and most are probably gone other than the family cow or two.
I think that's being generous. Just looking at the delivery list at the feed mill for bulk and bagged loads. Used to be the truck used to never shut off. It was nothing for guys to come in at 7 and leave at 6. Now most days there are less than 5 loads combined and not uncommon to only be 1. I'm guessing the Amish around here are way more old order and not complying with regulations. Amish by Mercer and Clymer are more progressive.
I've been thinking about going organic crop wise as an option as an added value to sell. This is the old barn I did a video of a couple vids back. th-cam.com/video/ZGNXlxDdxWM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fsMnX-FVrEfqaTnk Until people start going hungry they'll never understand the work involved.

Very true. Self-employment is something few can understand unless they’ve been in that position
Anyone saying it is easy isn't making their living from the farm. They work off the farm to supplement a homesteader lifestyle.
They see to many TH-cam farmers where it's all fun and easy not many show the struggle
A lot of people don't realize that the small farmer did way more for the local community then one big one.
Same as mom and pop shop. For some reason people think being like Walmart is better.

Love that hoop building! I could use one for equipment. Looks like they let alot of light in.
They do. I've never really have turned a light on for anything during the day

Credit is what got me in trouble.
From what I hear, cross calves are bringing good money at the auction.
Good luck with what ever this year brings you.
Thanks.
Something always seems happen, i just wish it would be sooner than the last minute. 😂
See if Farmall Fanatic will
Come and combine that corn. That would make some great video content
Could be a possibility but he's doesn't have a corn head. It shouldn't be to hard to locate one though.
The last 3 mornings we have had a heavy layer of frost. Oats and peas going in now here but few guys have beans in for a few weeks now and a few guys corn.
The big guys will be doing corn by next week here but around 5/10 is usually the safe time to start to avoid frost here

The watermelon growers have plants transplanted on the plastic covered beds, Frost would devestate them!
Hope you are doing well Dave. Have a great week.
Still early to think about corn around here yet anyway. Big guys will be planting next week, but most don't start till the 2nd week of May
