- things maybe turning. An option has come about to be able to order seed corn. A quick look to see what needs to be fixed equipment wise. Since I'm going to be planting some corn regardless I can now haul some 💩 to save on the fertilizer cost.
Good to hear you’re getting corn in. Really looking forward to seeing the process. Can you make a video going over different seed types, gmo v non-gmo, pollination, different sprays and things like that? Hoping to learn as much as I can!
Will do. As I go along it's been the plan to go more into detail of the direction I'm looking to do it. Especially the one variety of seed because no one really uses it because all the rage is aim at high yields. My goal is not max but respectable with lower inputs.
Last year his corn got over 16 feet tall without any fertilizer.Put on the field that we have ever purchased
My husband doesn't use fertilizer to plant.Corange, use manure from the animals to gruel. His crops every year he has never bought fertilizer
Glad you are planning on putting seed in the ground. Put the hammer down and get it done!
With my luck probably now that I've got a plan started it'll start a rainy spell and end up being further behind. 😂
6 years ago when we ceased row crops(cotton & Peanuts a 50lb bag of cotton seed was over $700.00 enough to plant 5 acres....
That's about the same as corn. A bag is around $350 and plants +/- 2.5 acres. When these seed companies know you need it they freely set their price.
.. I plow, disk once to knock it down ,I rent wagon from
Centerra broadcast , disk one more time and plant, I used a 500 pound 3 point cone spreader on 82 acres last year to top dress.. really wasn’t that bad. Also I think I bought that 2 row picker you speak of, also bought a gravity wagon there. But sold both of them, and then rebought another 2 row wide picker a year later. My planter set up for liquid, I planted with liquid 2 years ago. But for whatever reason I prefer broadcasting
Yeah getting fert bulk with the spreader is really minimal difference in price and you don't have too wrestle the bags
I've had a feeling they've sold that picker by this time, they haven't planted corn probably in 10-15 years
The main problem with liquid is if you get carried away with the rates you risk burning the seed or the leaves applying as a spray.
I'm a turkey hunter, and at 16:56 I heard a turkey gobble 😁
I've only seen three or four this spring. After this mild winter I expect they'd be all over the place
We have a JD cultimulcher like yours we use it alot...bearings are expensive for them
I can't remember ever having to replace a bearing on mine but I have had to replace one of the 12 ft shafts/bolt. I don't remember what that cost but I don't even want to know the price now. If it's even available anymore.
Spread the fertilizer on then disk it in that's the way we do it
Definitely the way I'm leaning to so I don't have to handle bags. Getting too old and feeling my age more everyday. 😂
Which company did you go through for corn seed
Hybrid 85 is the name of the one company.
Seed World is the other and only seem to have one variety I ordered which is a yellow dent open pollinated.
Thank you Dave
I'd do in row and crank um open with starter
Urea on price is expensive
To keep er cheap
Even though nothing cheap no more 😂
Definitely cheap is still expensive nowadays.
