We had a little wind damage last night and the back story of the new milking barn.

They probably have improved longevity. Mine was pro rated 15 years. The on up the road on 6 is the original cover and getting close to 25 years.

i sat at a meeting once where the state the usda the datcp farm bureau milk marketing board was there talking about quality of milk. a older dairy farmer said can we use cans any more?? oh my god they ALLLLL lost their minds OH NO thats unsanitary thats unsafe thats no good its unhealthy for people!!! the old guy said hmmmm funny why are most of us here cause most all of us drank canned milk!! he told them the MAIN reason you people come up with all these new rules is to say HEY look at me i came up with new rule i am great!! he explained to them how he was FORCED to go to grade B milk because of the condition of his barn THEN he pulled out MANY slips and told them you all can come look many many years of slips from the creamery and only 11 times over 100,000 somatic cell count so you guys most time are ALLLLL wrong with your inspections. we all stood up and clapped

To keep their jobs they make rules to fix issues that don't exist.
I remember sending in cans. They used to do one bacteria test and only cared if it looked discolored and had an odor. Now its several different tests and held to a level that they're more likely to charge a deduction than pay a premium.
I definitely remember SSC violation being 1 million now it's 450k the difference is really overall mute but they'll still use it and get it cheaper.
If it wasn't a money grab then when I switched to grade B from DFA then how come my milk still went to the same cheese plant, they just bought it directly. The quality test I was shut off for that DFA was hitting me with a 2$ deduction the cheese plant didn't even test for. DFA was docking me for something their customer had no concern for. Also the cheese plant on the other quality test has higher allowable levels, paid higher premiums and took lower deductions at higher levels.
It's all money, control, and corporate greed.

Not at this time. If I can get corn planted and still have cows this fall I plan on doing some silage and would use it to feed.
Right now I'm just feeding hay and one group I'm gets feed in a hay ring and the other group I break the bale apart by hand and feed at the headlocks.

This one of the things I wanted to mention and couldn't remember. 🤣
If it's a quality company they'd design it to the area. I'm in the snowbelt off lake Erie in NW PA and normally we get the snow, last 2 years though have been an exception.😂😂
These trusses are on 10 ft centers. They told me if they were building somewhere like Pittsburgh likely they'd be 12 ft. Some places they've done 7 ft, all depends on many factors.
Direction it faces makes a difference. This one is north South and the majority of the weather comes from the west. I've never had a build up of snow on the west side but the way it blows over the building I've had build up on the east side 1 - 2 feet mainly the area where it starts turning down because of how it blows around the vents. It doesn't take much of an improvement in the weather that snow will slide off.
Coverall went out of business about 4 years after I built this so the warranty did me no good but as designed the trusses and cover had a 15 years prorated warranty for up to 90 mph winds and 65 lb per sqft snow load.

Sure thing. What is the recommended service and inspection interval for half lap frame joints on doors?
