Do you think the ss bolts with the sealant would be watertight for the floor of my jon boat? I am going to put in a new transom and the factory one has a 45 degree support bracket going to the floor held with four rivets which probably will need to get removed to get the new wood in. I could permanently remove the support and seal up the four holes or put it back and use ss bolts. So wondering what you think?
I'd personally try to drill rivets out and go back w solid rivet in larger diameter. You could use a bolt though, id use nylon lock nuts and 3m 5200 around the head real good.
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats Thanks so much for the feedback. Will explore solid rivets. Was also thinking of closed end pop rivets but probably too weak. So either solid rivets or bolts.
Awesome video!! So far, so good and your boat looks like it’s gonna turn out very nice!!! What grit sandpaper did you use to sand the aluminum transom before you mounted the wood? 120 like what you used to sand the wood after the resin cured?
Yeah 120 but you can use 60, 80, or 120. I like 120 because it doesn't scratch the aluminum too bad but removes the paint well enough. 60 might gauge it to where you'll see scratches after paint. In my case it didn't matter because it was getting covered up. Thanks , it came out great, looking forward to showing you guys the metalwork in the next video, that's where it starts to really take shape
Thanks for the reply/info. 👍 Looking forward to your next video! By the way, were you able to check out my Jon Boat intro (Part 1 & Part 2) I uploaded on my Channel? Curious to know what process I would need to take in order to get that JB Weld/Epoxy stuff off the bottom of the boat.
@@MailmanDownEDC I haven't yet, sorry I have a lot of stuff to catch up on, I will check it out though. I will be using wire wheels on my bottom of boat to get the stuff off the rivets before I di the epoxy coated bottom.
I don't plan on removing any time in the next 20 years. By then the glue probably wont be doing its job. Transom wasthin and shot, wanted to glue to hold it and not have any air voids. Boats are a case by case basis.
Same way as this. I left the original transom in tact and made a 1/2 inch cap and mounted it over the original. You can see pics on my Instagram. Its painted so it looks original but is not
3 on the transom. I'm not leaving anything out. Too much footage to make one video and explain it all. How many chapters on the whole boat? As many as it takes.
It would have worked like you recommend Bass, but this is Anthony Jones and he thinks about the future and by protecting it with the resin it gives the wood more life
Way to GO !!!
Thanks man
Enjoyed you know your stuff thanks
Appreciate you
Nice job. I probably wouldn’t of glued the wood to the back of the aluminum though for the next guy so it’s not so hard to take apart.
Looking good bro!
Thanks cuzin
Keep us posted on the process.
Thank you
I pass that sign every day
Good job man, it's always a little nerve racking drilling holes below the waterline. But that 5200 is the truth.
No doubt man, just gotta take your time with it!
I always wondered if it was ok to use stainless bolts on an aluminum boat.
What type of adhesive glue did you use on rear board try to do the same here!
How did you seal the the bolts so water doesn't leak through
It's in the video at the 10 min mark
Did you use 5200 to glue it to the aluminum?
I'm curious. Was it a couple hours, A day for the resin to cure?
Depends on how much hardener you add. About an hr to a few hrs the way I mix
i realize Im pretty off topic but does anybody know a good site to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Silas Brooks lately I have been using flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Kyrie Darwin yup, I've been watching on Flixzone for months myself :)
@Kyrie Darwin Thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I appreciate it !

JB Water-weld works great. Pop a rivet into the hole and 'waterweld' it or get a $20 tube of 3M
What size plywood

@@MailmanDownEDC probably best to just sand it off, or if you get it cold enough chisel it off. I.e. dry ice on top of it.
Derek Wiggs Thanks, Derek. Appreciate your suggestions. 👍👍

Clamp/bolt at the Bottom First Before you Clamp the Top.. The Bubble has Nowhere to Go if you Don't work it up Then Clamp the Top.. Thanks
Why do u glue it to the boat? Wont that make it extremely hard to remove when it inevitably needs to be taken out?

How did you build the transom on the job top gun Jon boat? It just looks like metal there.

how long until the 3m 5200 can be painted after applying?
7 days
Question how many chapters do you plan on doing

Cuz! how you making a whole new jon boat and not making your own cold brew coffee?
Cuz! I guess I need to get on some Diy cold brew coffee channels in my down time!
Couldn’t you just attach new wood and be on the way lol
