    Your getting there! I like the slick drill guide. I’ve made wrenches, and tools when necessary. Sometimes the best tools for a certain job are the ones you make yourself!

    Just bought another Starcraft 16ft. It has a transom like I've never seen. Someone lowered it 3" to accommodate a short shaft, then sandwiched a qtr inch plate of aluminum in-between the plywood when they redid the transom, It's strong but I'm not so sure I'm not gonna sink with it being 3" lower than original only in the middle where motor mounts. I'm gonna find out soon enough lol. Came with a 55hp and a real nice trailer and decided to take a chance at 300 bucks, rest of the boat is sweeeeeet!!

    Nice restoration video. Enjoyed it. For what it's worth, Thompson's Wood preserver works GREAT in aluminum boat woodwork. It's thin like water, and soaks in and disappears, but man, that stuff keeps the rot away. As they say, don't knock it until you try it!

    Nice job..I was at my hometown marina yesterday and the guy was doing a big Jon boat job like this..I asked what he gets for this and he quoted $800 to do it..That was cutting off corner caps and welding them and doing basically what you did.Great you could do it yourself..

    Is there a video of why you were squaring the transom? I’m finished with the board ready to drill and install. The drill guid is shear genius.

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey 46S-chief. Thanks for tuning in. I'm trying to remember exactly why I did that. It had something to do with a comment someone made about it being square or out of square, something like that. It wasn't something I did because I was worried about it. So no, no video on why I did it. Hahaha. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

    Don’t put treated wood against aluminum. There’s copper alloy in it and could react with aluminum pitting it.

    Nice work as usual...making it work.
    Quick question from Minneapolis: who is your 'go to' website te for 1960s outboard parts like carb kits, exhaust gaskets, etc. (1968 18 Fastwin)??

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey. Any of the big suppliers like marineengine.com, boats.net. Just to get part numbers, then I search ebay for the best deal. When you search the part number on ebay you have to search it twice. Once with the "0" at the beginning of the part number and once without it. Some ebay sellers dont use the 0 when they list the parts. I dont know why. Thanks ! See ya next time !

    • @shawnsingleton3034
      @shawnsingleton3034 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      THIS OLD OUTBOARD Yep the butterfly that’s connected to the camera roller . Clean the carburetor spotless. Set the float level with the body. Awesome hearing from you.

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shawnsingleton3034 Thanks. Okay Sounds like maybe you missed a spot when you cleaned the carb. The low speed idle circuit, the 2-3 small holes just over that butterfly in the throat of the carb. Did you poke a wire (like from a bread tie) in each hole and spray carb cleaner through them. You should be able to spray some cleaner on them and form a puddle, then watch each hole drain. They should drain fairly quick. Take the slow speed needle out so they can drain out that way. I'm sure your needle is set at 1.5 turns out. Is the retainer in good shape. There are two settings for the float, upside down level with the carb like you have it and right side up and how far the float drops. Did you just get this old outboard and trying to get it running or have you had it.

      Hey. Yes treated wood on my 15' Dura Craft jon boat. Its been in there for years and still looks fine. But its not bare aluminum, its painted and probably even primed. So the treated wood is not coming in direct contact with the aluminum. Thanks for watching and commenting. See ya next time !
