- Super Mario 3D World borrowed a lot of it's design elements from 2D Mario games of yore. That includes points and scores. That is a feature I never cared about, until now. But today we're not going for a high score no, we're going for a low score. We're trying to get the fewest points. Today we find out, what is the lowest possible score required to beat Super Mario 3D World.

Here are some speedrunning strategies that can save you points.
28:12 you can jump to the next platform with Cat Peach without killing the innocent Fire Bro. which can save 1000 points.
You can warp to World 1 from World 5 to get the Captain Toad 5 Green Stars for free.
By using out of bounds on world map glitch, you can fall from World Bowser to World 4 to get the mystery house stars without passing Piranha Creeper Creek again. But this possibly needs some rerouting as you might not need the Green Stars from the regular levels in World 4 after that.
I love how you put much effort into this and with better routing, we can improve the low-score run. Great job and looking forward to the follow-up video.
First two are very good points, but uncertain if he should use the glitch. He may have _abused_ certain game mechanics, but they were all "intended mechanics", as it were. A straight-up glitch, to me at least, has the feel of using death to erase points in a way.
The points are added to grand total when points are collected so dying doesn't help. Also, although those are not intended, the game is working completely fine. You should achieve the low score by all means that allows gliches but not cheats.
@@Mizumaririn Points _aren't_ added if you die, which is why he doesn't allow deathstrats to begin with. Rewatch the video, it's explained early on.
Anyway, the reason I say a glitch shouldn't be allowed in the run is more because of the reasoning he used going into the challenge. He's not going into this run with a "true" any% mindset, and is very much looking to work within the rules the game sets. Glitches work for any%s because the players _don't care what it takes_, and go out of their way to cut as much playtime as possible, and therefor as much of the physical levels from a game.
Here, the runner is deliberately avoiding using an _intended_ rule(points you accrue in a level are lost on death) in the name of fairness and honesty, when he could just as easily have made a much shorter(and less impressive) video, introduced the Point-Loss mechanic, and beaten Meowser with an absurdly low point count.
But deliberately losing points is not in the _spirit_ of the game, and not in the spirit of this challenge, which is to find the route that gives you the least points. I think using this Glitch would be okay if he seemed willing to use them elsewhere, but he doesn't, so I don't think it fits.
Glitchless any% runs exist alongside glitch-allowed any%, so both ways are perfectly valid, but I feel that if you want to allow glitches in, go whole-hog and use the Point-Loss mechanic.
I've watched many TH-camrs and most of them overlook common speedrunning tricks that usually solves their problems.
I focus on what actions give you points and should be avoided in all ways, not how to lose the points to get around the penalty. Anyway, you, I and CMeeCraft have different have different opinions on what counts and what doesn't and we can follow our own way.
I find it really impressive that you managed to actually beat the game with that lowest amount of points and didn't just slap some numbers on top of it for a "theoretical number".

3d World has a different score for every level, so if he accidentally collects points he can just restart. In 2d Mario games the score never resets, so if somebody accidentally gets points there's no way to get rid of them.

Great video. One small critique/piece of advice though:
Since green stars were a priority and by far the biggest score cost, a lot of successful levels got a higher score than levels that didn't go well. The numbers given for a level's score were almost meaningless when most of the score is intentional.
I think it would have been more intuitive and easier to follow if you set aside the 680,000 mandatory green star points at the beginning and just tracked levels' non-green star points, adding the 680,000 at the end.

I feel that the challenge videos have become more and more generic over time but cmeeceaft gaming never fails to do something unique and cool.
Not to say this video isn't cool, because it is, but low score runs are very popular and not that unique. Ceave, Nicobbq, Bandy, Mayro, and some others I'm forgetting have done these, although they usually try to avoid doing games other TH-camrs have done. I watch them all because it's a cool concept though.

The amount of mathematics and routing behind Castle-5 and Castle-6 (which leads into thinking about worlds 1 and 4) is insane. I’m suprised he didn’t run out of breath.
Plenty of TH-camrs put plenty of time into writing scripts, recording footage and voice overs, and editing their videos. Which are all very well done here. But the sheer amount of effort put into accomplishing, routing and calculating this task is monumental. This video deserves 20 million views.

If you disconnect the controller, the character itself won't actually leave the game until you finish the level, meaning the character will still get inside a bubble

No cat suit (multiplayer and 90 degree wall jumps can be used to reach higher areas such as 1-2’s pipe)
Galoomba blockade and gamepad shenanigans
Koopa + Gamepad Shenanigans
First Fire Bro in Fort Fire Bros can be skipped with cat momentum + peach
Brolder Blockade can be beaten without brolder points
Castle-Castle boss points
Plessie dune should be able to get an additional green star without cost
Also the entire challenge is null and void because when you beat a level with an invincible leaf all points are removed lol.

I don’t think it would be very interesting beceause of the waiting for the timer at the end of the level. The only place to optimisme anything would be in the World map.

Yes, but generally when people say 3D they mean... 3D. Not 2.5D. By that logic, Little Big Planet is a 3D game because you can TECHNICALLY move forward and backward in an otherwise totally 2D game.

Also, love your videos. Your challenges are interesting and unique. And I love how you don’t do “ThEoReTiCaLlY PoSsIbLe” runs and just put together a bunch of seperate attempts and such. I feel that if any other Mario game challenge youtubers like Ceave gaming, Mayro, Nicobbq, Nathaniel Bandy, etc., some of them might (I don’t know or not) have done it that way. The way you actually play the game and do it 100 percent legit is amazing. I can’t even I magine how long this video took to film, resetting the level after every accidental point collected. You deserve so much more popularity than you already have. No offense to everyone who supports you already, they are great. But really, keep up the great work.

After seeing multiple no coin runs of nsmb2, it pained me to see you get coins in that clip in the intro
Also I think you can pick up baseballs with the gameplay cursor and throw them at p-switches, potentially saving 100 points per switch as long as its near a baseball
