What is the Lowest Possible Score Required to Beat New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe?

- Routing New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe with the lowest score possible, is quite a challenge! A lot of Mario elements that we usually take for granted, just become forbidden. Suddenly we aren’t allowed to collect any coins, we aren’t allowed to touch checkpoints nor can we defeat a single enemy. We basically have to find a way through Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe that avoids all the different gameplay elements that grant us score. In this video we will do exactly this. We will route New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe from start to finish, and we will finally find out what the lowest high-score required to beat the game is.

For 1-2, can you not utilize two player mode? You had this exact problem in the new super Luigi u run. Or is there no way to pop the bubble on the other side without the omniscient finger of god (boost mode)?

Here is a tip: The coins at 6:00 are probably passable by two ways.
1. You use multiplayer and use the second player as a trampoline and if you can't reach from that there are always three players.
2. You might be able to pick up another player in Multiplayer and then throw them over the coins and then pop your original bubble.
(I reccomend 1 over 2 and you can always keep your momentum and height by spinning in midair)
You can also use the P-acorn you get after chasing Nabbit

Hey Ceave! I believe we could *save 200 points* by using multiplayer mode in 1-2. Just spawn in additional players, have Mario jump on their head and twirl over the first Coin formation! :) I reckon there's something we can do about the other Coins in the level as well: just duck jump and twirl over the last Coin, and we should be able to avoid it if our timing is just right. I don't think we can save any other points, though.
Have you tried to see if igniting Bob-ombs to hit Kamek pointless is more viable this time around? I don't expect anything to change, but we could save 8000 points by doing that, you know. Never hurts to ask.
Also, have you thought about Super Guide? By grinding 1UPs in the first stage (I believe there's a hidden 1UP block somewhere?) we can activate that mode, which goes through the levels and does collect points as normal, but doesn't add them to our counter. This is most likely cheating, but I'd like to know your opinion on its legality.

EDIT: Just realized thanks to a comment by BowCool; *we can save up to 900 points by using a Fire Flower on the world map!* The Toad House in the ghost area of Soda Jungle can give one. To get there we are forced to gain at least 100 timer points (maybe even more points in the level, if anything is unavoidable), but we'll save 1000, so it's worth it overall. :) Didn't edit the main comment because I'm afraid that it'll be drowned in the sea of comments: it already happened once, let's not do that again.

Harry Parker no the levels are a lot shorter and are built around Luigis higher jump and faster, more slippy movement. It’s actually a lot better than mario u IMO. It’s on the switch version

Can’t you just get a p acorn as one character, then switch to another to save that p acorn. This might work with other power ups as well right? Technically, this mechanic could be a way of saving power ups for when you need to use it. You could just pick a character with one power up for one stage and then switch to another with a different one.

You could of used multiplayer for Stone Crush Tower (Mario Squirrel Goes over coins, Nabbit (P2) in bubble)
Similarly, you could of used P2 tp get the Fire Flower in Airship, and reserve the acorn and used the P-acorn later (possibly).
And then using the P-acorn to make Hot Elevator Ride much easier, when you know who's dropping where in the screen.

No, the only reason he could do that in NSMBU is because he used the touch pad to pop the bubble like that, but the Switch doesn't have that type of pointless mechanic. Good thought though!

In theory that would be possible. If this was on the Wii.u version. The switch screen can’t be used to create boost mode or pop bubbles on the screen. Íf this was the wii.u version my boi Ceave could safe like a lot of points, using boost mode to end bosses and stuff. Good idea though

Hey Ceave, I found a way to minimize a few points in 1-2 all you need to do is grab Luigi and Toadette (for the sake of power ups). Give Luigi a fire flower. Make toadette die.. and then bubble in to the of screen..and pray to god she will get in the pathway . shoot with Luigi’s Fireballs to pop the bubble toadette is in.. now
Run with toadette to then.. while Luigi and MARIO go in Bubble.. Btw you can keep the fireflower.. so in the fight with Bowser JR you can use the fireflower of Luigi.. Hope I could be of any help :D

Hey Ceave. I found a way to minimize the score by 1000
evil pointless points. So at 14:00 when you need to grab the fireflower with a different player. So you don’t need to change back to a squirrel mushroom

Levi Jonkhout actually that wouldn’t save any points as he used the fire flower to damage boost and catch Nabit for a pointless acorn and when you catch nabbit you also don’t get any timer points
The person who previously replied to you is right. Using a power-up on the world map costs us 0 points, as opposed to 1000; using that P-Acorn is completely pointless, if you know what I mean. The Nabbit stage also costs 0 points; timer points aren't added at the end of Nabbit chases.

Hopefully they’ll remake it on the Switch with new mechanics. He’s already pushed the game to its limits, and I can’t imagine there’s too much more to explore.

As everyone else said, Mario Maker doesn't have anything else to do right now. Its sequel/remake will probably add things like Shy Guys and other playable characters, more power-ups etc

After I watched your Luigi u episode, 47480 is truly assume to be perfect one, 52900 points are lowest scores in Luigi u while Mario U version had same bosses calculation, it had no denial that 47480 is lower points! Way to go , ceave!

Kamek is technically rng. It’s really possible unless the rng gods love you. (Keep in mind that Ceave also has to end the level with one second left on the timer)
You can save points by making sure when you kill a boss, it isn’t connected to mario

For the Fire Flower, what if you beat 1-2 normally to get the Toad House to get a Fire Flower in your inventory so you don't take any points? It would save 950 points doing it that way

for red hot elevator ride, use more than one player, use the p switch, go under the ledge that holds the p switch, and ground pound at the same time to clear the coins (i didnt test this, but it might work)
