- In Super Mario Odyssey the left joystick is mainly used to move Mario, but do we really need the joystick to move through the game? Is the left joystick really required to beat Super Mario Odyssey? Or is it possible to make it through the whole game, without the option to walk at all? In the last video we already took a look at all kingdoms, up until the lost kingdom, and today, we will finally find out what the minimum amount of left stick uses required to beat Super Mario Odyssey is!

it's all rng. you can with 0 inputs if:
-you're born into a millionaire/billionaire family as their only child
-you just let your prents drag you everywhere
-when they die, you might inherit the money
simple as that, my man. there's an incredibly low chance of that happening though. keep trying.

@Aren Basically, the Switch is well-known for having Joystick Drift, where the joystick becomes less firm and slowly becomes loose, if it becomes too loose, then the console might just read it as an input and you'll end up having characters move without your consent all the time

Edit: Not even five minutes in and I discover that my countless attempts for New Donk City Hall could have been avoided with a new orientation technique. Brilliant! I would've never thought about that. I also completely forgot about how challenging Snow Kingdom was. I have no clue what moons I got to complete it without the Cappy Groundpound technique, but I definitely remember being stuck with two moons left. Also, Rango. Oh boy, Rango. Tough fight right there. I'll continue this once I get to the Bowser's Kingdom part.
Edit 2: Oh man, your intro to Bowser's Kingdom hit hard. All the memories. The hours, days, weeks lost trying to control those pokios. The outer wall section took me so long and, to be frank, I wish I would have thought to hit it over the wall. As embarasing as it is, I spent a long time trying to get the Pokio to the wall using the thwomp-like enemies. It was a shame to hear that you couldn't eliminate the Moon Skip input. After you managed to avoid the Dino Skip... WOAH! it seems as though Icay has saved the day! I flipped out when I heard this. I can't believe all the progress you made on this run. Last year I came to the conclusion that it took a required four inputs, but it seems I was wrong. Thank you so much for attempting this run. While I may have been wrong, at least I was incredibly close. Seeing someone go through what I experienced for four months like this was truly a ride and i enjoyed every last second of it.

@@clock3799 I'm unsure of what you mean by that, but I assume you're asking about if I completed this run. I did this run early last year and came to the conclusion of 4 required Left Stick Inputs, but ever since Crave made his original video on this the run has gained more traction. I have three videos about it on my channels from around the summer of last year if you need proof.

Dude, congrats on completing this challenge. That look like it took a lot of time to complete. I have seen many challenge videos, but this one is definitely the best.
And now, how to beat Super Mario Odyssey without buttons, joystick-only
Lumap Smallant did it well he did no jumps or cap throws and no damage or no coins and jumps and cap throws are the buttons.
Maybe even with only the ground pound button because you can roll and dive using motion controls

Pannenkoek2012 has a series of videos on getting various SM64 stars without the joystick... he's gotten 20 of them. I don't know if that's a full list of all the stars that can be gotten joystick-less, but given that SM64 doesn't have as many alternative movement options, I wouldn't hold out my hopes for a full game run. It's certainly a more tedious process than in Odyssey.
I'd be very curious about Sunshine, those water physics could be exploited in quite a few ways.

The minimum captures is 13 but i dont know about throws
Throws should be 3
Actually, cap throws dont count in the toadette counter if you throw cappy near a capture target, making the onky 3 cap throws just to open the door at the wedding chapel.
What about no x/y presses so you aren’t allowed to dive and long jump

Hey Ceave! This is a follow-up to my first comment. I actually found a way to get past all 2d sections, how to get up the the madame broode boss fight, and doing the mech fight a lot easier. If you go into 2 player mode and press sr and sl on the right joycon, and then again on the left joycon, you can walk as mario. For the sake of the challenge, I recommend only using this in cascade kingdom (for getting to madame broode, but not for the actual fight), and in the pokio section in bowser's kingdom (and the mech fight as well). I have some other ideas, so if you want to chat I would love to. Stay awesome!
