I LOVE THE WAY THIS MAN SPEAKS!!!! “ouching spikes” “Happy electric blobs” “stone snake thingy”. ITS HILARIOUS! Great job Ceave keep doin whut ur doin!
Dear Mr. Ceave, do I have the challenge for you. Can you beat New Super Luigi U without touching the ground? (The question seems ridiculous but let me explain.) The rules are simple: 1. Upon touching the ground, you must quit the level and try again. 2. The ground you start on doesn’t count. You get a jump to start the level. No running/walking on the beginning ground. 3. Ground is defined as the normal land block (the path most commonly used to complete the level). Pipes don’t count (unless they are used as the commonly used path. If so, only land on teleporting pipes). Neither do brown/question blocks. The semisolid blocks and moving hill things (a lot of them in 1-1) I would count as cheating, it’s up to you. 4. Attaching to ledges is not touching the ground because I said so. 5. Yoshi is a debatable option because technically YOU’RE not touching the ground. Yoshi is. Though you could say the same about shoes. 6. Boost mode is also debatable. Up to you. Possibly as a bonus challenge, count how many boost mode platforms are needed. 7. If I missed anything, then heck, make your own rules. This is just to give you an idea. Some tips (that you probably already knew) -Acorn suit is a necessity. They glide, attach to ledges, and do a mid-air jump -Twirl jumps, when you spin the Wii remote while standing on the ground can be a good start to many levels. -Many levels require you to start above ground and get to a pipe to descend to the underground. Twirl jump. -Jumping on enemies will get you another mid-air jump when using the acorn suit. -The problem is the beginning level. The squirrel with the acorn suit doesn’t fly over until you move slightly to the right. Maybe use boost mode to platform over to the squirrel. Enjoy.
I actually already looked into this. It's super difficult but I managed to do the first couple of levels. I’ll probably do a vid about this at some point. (:
his next video is gonna be “can you beat super luigi U while permanently crouching, collecting no coins, with minimal points, without turning left, and with no power-ups?”
I was thinking that these videos are just basically minimal versions of pannenkoek2012's sm64 A-press videos... Then he starts talking about "half a left press"
Why didn't Nintendo think about all the people that want to beat the game without pressing left and will be sad because of the stupid meta left press after Ludwig's tower?!
So, consider Wing Mario Over the Rainbow, not even the whole star, just getting to the cannon platform, which is a necessary part of getting the star. So, how many A presses does it take to get there? Well, if you say zero that’s wrong because then Mario can’t go far enough. If you say one, well, it’s true that Mario can get there with one, but we can do better. We can get there in half an A press. To do that, we start the level already holding A and then we use that A press to reach the platform. Now hold on, I know what you’re thinking, “An A press is an A press, you can’t say it’s only a half!” Well, TJ “Henry” Yoshi, hear me out. An A press actually has three parts to it, when A is pressed, when A is held, and when A is released. Now, usually is the pressing that’s useful because that’s the only part that makes Mario jump, however, sometimes it’s sufficient to just use the holding part, which allows Mario to do little kicks, to swim underwater, to fall slowly while twirling and to fall slowly with the wing cap. And as for the release, well, there’s currently no cases where that’s useful or important, so don’t worry about that part. Now, if we map out the required presses for Wing Mario Over the Rainbow it would look like this: _//. We merely need to hold (_) A to reach the cannon platform, we need to press (/) A to launch from the first cannon, and we need to press A again to launch from the second cannon. So, how many presses is that total? Well, it appears to be three, and if we were doing this star in isolation then yes, it would be three, but in a full-game A Button Challenge run there are other A presses that occur earlier in the run, such as the A press needed to get into the course, so if we take that A press into consideration as well, then how many A presses does it take? The naïve answer would be four, one to enter the course, and the three within the course we established earlier, however, we can do better. We can actually do it in three by simply holding out the first A press to be used for the half A press, because the half A press only required A to be held, not actually pressed, so in this fashion, Wing Mario Over the Rainbow only adds on an additional two A presses to the run, since the first A press just leeches off the previous A press, so to capture this phenomenon, we call it 2.5 A presses, on a single star basis, you’d round up that up to three, but in a full game run, you’d round it down to two. So, in conclusion, since that first A press counts in other contexts, but adds no additional presses in other contexts, we refer to it a Half A Press.
Just did this challenge myself on the new version using Toadette, it was lots of fun! The lack of boost mode made some parts a lot harder than they were for you, but Nabbit came in clutch and gave me the means to finish off Bowser by damage boosting an unlimited amount of times to get left momentum.
Hey Ceave! I've got an idea: Try to beat Super Mario Odyssey while crouching. Moves you can use while crouching: 1. Backflip 2.Long Jump (You have to gain momentum) 3.Normal jump out of a backflip (you can also long jump out of a back flip) 4.Rolling I hope this helps you with a video idea!
Can you beat Mario odyssey without jumping without taking damage without collecting coins with minimum captures while simultaneously beating super Mario 3D world with 2 coins without jumping without taking damage with player 1 with minimum power ups while beating new super Luigi u with the minimum score?
I felt that comment about what classifies a left press too much. Back during the beginning of the year I ran Super Mario Odyssey while trying to figure out the least amount of Left-Stick inputs. One of the most challenging parts was trying to classify what a Left-Stick input is. I ended up picturing it as if I was using a fighting gamepad where the left stick is controlled by 8 directional buttons and allowed for holding down a single direction for as long as you want. I ended up beating the main story with only 4 inputs: one in Cap Kingdom to do a wall jump in the frog room, one in Cascade Kingdom to do the dino skip, and two on the moon to do cave skip and control Bowser in the final section. The Bowser section was really tricky due to the fact that I had to hold up the entire time, only being able to move via controlling the camera. The run proved pretty fun and challenging to route, so I'd give it a shot if you're interested.
5:28 You see Ceave, if you throw the Wii U gamepad against the wall on the exact frame you leave the castle, you avoid a mandatory left press as Mario spawns at the left side.
Can you wall jump off of a touch screen block to skip the left press in stone snake tower? I dont have this game, so I cant test this out on my own. (Edit) oh wait you did never mind
All of this leads up to the final challenge, “Is it possible to beat new super Mario Bros U with the lowest score, not pressing right, playing blind, and without magical platforms?”
No, it's not like the DS one. However I do believe that after beating the W7 castle for the first time, you automatically run to the next level. If this is true, a zero left press run is possible.
Additional information for people rewatching this like me, Clouds ghost house staircase problem is possible on deluxe. But it's pixel perfect, (For those curious, you need a wall jump just weak enough to barely not clip back onto the floor ebove and then you need to perfectly jump to get enough momentum.)
You can "skip" the meta left press by making it a half a left press If you start up the game holding left and go through the menus with the touch screen, you will move on the map with a half a left press
It’s what a button press challenge runner would call a 0.5x press. The button doesn’t actually need to be pressed, but merely held, which means that it can leech off a previous button press. There were arguments for calling both a press (since it definitively requires the button to be pressed at some point) and not a press (since it doesn’t require the button to be pressed at that time) the compromise was calling it a ‘half’ or 0.5 press, splitting the difference.
*”Is a left press a left press? If we press left before we start up the game is it only half a left press?”* A left press is a left press. You can’t say it’s only half.

@@crazycrud7021 I've already mentioned it :P
Dear Mr. Ceave, do I have the challenge for you. Can you beat New Super Luigi U without touching the ground? (The question seems ridiculous but let me explain.) The rules are simple:
Some tips (that you probably already knew)
-Acorn suit is a necessity. They glide, attach to ledges, and do a mid-air jump
-Twirl jumps, when you spin the Wii remote while standing on the ground can be a good start to many levels.

Me: yeah that sounds just about right
Why didn't Nintendo think about all the people that want to beat the game without pressing left and will be sad because of the stupid meta left press after Ludwig's tower?!

It seems as though I was ahead of my time.

Well, TJ "charbomber" Yoshi
It’s what a button press challenge runner would call a 0.5x press. The button doesn’t actually need to be pressed, but merely held, which means that it can leech off a previous button press. There were arguments for calling both a press (since it definitively requires the button to be pressed at some point) and not a press (since it doesn’t require the button to be pressed at that time) the compromise was calling it a ‘half’ or 0.5 press, splitting the difference.
