OK, I made these tonight and they are absolutely the BEST black bean/veggie burger I've ever had in my life. Seriously. Only change for me was using gluten-free breadcrumbs. OMG--thank you Justin. As a new vegetarian, this was a true gift. 🙂

Not to burst your new vegetarian bubble, but these burgers lost their vegetarian status when he added the Worcestershire sauce (anchovy). However, I'm a meathead 🤗🤗 so I'd have no issue with eating these. In fact, they look pretty good. Hope I didn't kill your buzz...

Dear Coit, 3rd time I've tried different recipes for black bean burgers, yours is not only easy with some basic prep, but absolutely delicious. A person gets tired of loud mouth, dancing home chefs when all I want is a list of ingredients and how to prep. I substituted a grated carrot, didn't have any peppers, grated in some pepper jack, used up some whole grain bread that needed using, left out the chili powder, really dont like it; but the preparation of this short list of good ingredients, I did prep the canned beans as you instructed--they were wonderful MAKE THIS RECIPE, YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!!!! thanks so much

This is it, the Black Bean Burger recipe I've been looking for years. As Summer approaches I really wanted a "Veggie" Burger I could offer my guests while attending the BBQ grill. This Black Bean burger has a great flavor profile, but what does it for me is the texture of the mixture prior to shaping the burger patties. I knew as soon as I made it, that "texture" was PERFECT. For years, I would get close, but the mixture was always too wet and no matter how I tried, the burger would not stay together. I'm done searching for the magic recipe - I found it.

That looks delicious! I'm definitely making that for tomorrow's dinner! I started eating plant based last July. I'm trying to look for simple meals to make. I made black beans burgers before, but not with the worchester sauce and bread crumbs. Plus I baked mine. This time I think I'll spray a little cooking spray and fry them in a pan. I have the bagged black beans because I don't like rinsing them. I'm getting the canned since you put them in the oven to dry them out. I'll let you know how they turn out!

Hi- it’s for flavor and helps act as a binder too.

What if I don't eat eggs? Could I substitute it with ground flaxseed?

      CHIPOTLE LIME TOFU BURGERS
1 tbsp avocado oil plus more as needed
      1/2 red onion, finely diced
1 block Nasoya’s Super Firm Tofu, finely crumbled
1 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
1 vegan “beef” or vegetable bouillon cube, crumbled
      1 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp Tajin or chili lime seasoning
      1/2 tsp ground coriander
      1/4 tsp allspice
      1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
      1/4 cup all-purpose flour
      2 tbsp nutritional yeast
Juice and zest of 1 lime
4 tbsp adobo sauce from a can of chipotle peppers
      2 tbsp maple syrup
Preheat the oven to 425F. Place a heavy bottom skillet with oil over medium heat. Once the pan is hot add the onions and a pinch of salt and saute until softened. Stir in the crumbled tofu then spread the mixture out to cover the bottom of the pan. Allow the tofu to cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes then toss and cook for 3-4 more minutes until the tofu starts to get more golden in color.
To the pan add the soy sauce, bouillon cube, garlic powder, 1 teaspoon Tajin, coriander, and allspice. Stir the mixture well, sauteing until the tofu is well coated. Remove from heat and allow to rest for 5 minutes
Once safe to handle, transfer the tofu to a mixing bowl and add the breadcrumbs, flour, nutritional yeast, lime zest and juice. Stir to combine then use your hands to knead the mixture until it starts to hold together.
With lightly oiled hands, grab a 1/2 cup scoop of the mixture and tightly mold it into 4 equal sized 1/2 inch thick patties to fit the width of your favorite burger buns. Place the patties on a parchment lined baking tray and bake for 15 minutes.
Combine the adobo sauce, maple syrup and 1/2 teaspoon of tajin in a small bowl. Use it to carefully brush the top of the burgers. Flip then baste the burger again and return the tray to bake for an additional 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow the burgers to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving in a bun with all the fixings.

Looks great, but I figure that, if I’m going to have eggs and cheese in it, I may as well just have a meat pattie… 🤷‍♂️
