It is so much more fun to give hats away than it is to sell them! My sister and I have been loom knitting and machine knitting for years, and give me them away, and there's just no feeling better than taking a big bag of hats to Teen Challenge or the warming shelter or the women's shelter or the hospital. It's kind of addicting! God bless you for that!
Surely it is. To be comfortable enough with money and have the ability to even consider it vs. fighting for survival with handmade stuff, of course that first is more fun.
Enjoyed your video very much my Addi Express Kingsize will be here next week was nice to see a Gentlemen knit and then put your hat on I have been concerned the hats will be big enough for a Man. I crochet hats to donate, mostly to Cancer Patients but really to anyone that needs one. Thanks again appreciate you taking the time to do your video have a wonderful 2024.
Same to you! That machine is fun I stock up then hand them out. Check out the Infiniti scarf after you get the hat down. It’s really a lot of fun and super easy to make on the machine and you can make matching sets they make for great gifts
THANK YOU for showing the mistakes! I am new to the Addi, but really like that it's much easier on my hands than doing hand loom knitting. My first hat, I didn't understand how to cast off so ended up with a mess at the end. So instead of cinching it closed anyway, I frogged it and used it again on my second beanie. After watching several different TH-cam tutorials, I was able to make the tube and was looking for a way to make the beanie reversible. I like the way you show how you do it best. Subscribed
I'm so excited to get my knitting machine! I have so much yarn. I live near Duke and UNC Hospitals in NC so I have so many people I can make hats for!! Thank you the great idea and showing me how to do it!
Great tutorial and agree that leaving little glitches in and ways to recover is great. I’m going to order my first ever Addi circular knitting machine.Thank you.
Thank you for showing the Video !!! Great ! I akso knit hats and other things on a voluntary basis in Germany. For the hopice hats and scarfs, for baby station also sleeping bags with addi (180 R) like a big hat😊 Wich a lot of fun. God bless you. Acts 20:35, to give makes happy. ❤
I make hats for charity with an addi the same way you do, I've been doing it for years. I also have a cat that gets extremely interested in my yarn. I suggest you get a (yarn) cake maker to keep the yarn from rolling away and then put it into a big bowl to keep the cat hair off the yarn that you know is on the floor where you're working :) Edited for clarity
Thank you! Best explanation on the addi making hats I’ve seen so far. Just ordered my machine. Winter in Wisconsin, I will be giving hats out to the homeless. What kind of yarn do you use DK?
Sometimes your machine wont like certain yarn...once you find a yarn that it likes...try to stick to that brand. Ive made hundreds of hats for donations to our local food pantrys
Oh i am having a terrible time? I have a dropped stitch every time i put on another colour what luck. Thanks for your video it is very good i wlll try again tomorrow as it is now bedtime in Australia
Hi Margaret. The Addi seems to work best with acrylic yarns for me, or worsted weight 4. When you have issues always check and see if it's your yarn. These machines can be pretty finicky about the yarns you use. I've had my Addi for about four years now, and I'm still learning. If you search on here for dropped, or tucked stitches on knitting machines, they are pretty easy to fix. I have found some pretty good tutorials. Best of luck to you.
Hi, does your Addi work with a medium 4 weight yarn? Mine does not. I bought a lot of yarn 4 medium in the States and my Addi does not like it. Suggestion: Pulling and stretching the tube after you take it off the machine is essential for a more even look of the stitches.
Hello again the best yarn I found so far is encore by Plymouth. I bought a bunch of size 4 at a discount yarn place called hobby lobby it’s hit or miss with it. I don’t use this machine much just to make a bunch of basic hats I donate.
@@TumaTime I use the machine a lot and produce hundreds of hats to donate. Homeless in Frankfurt and Christmas in a shoe box for kids in Romania, Bulgaria and the Ukraine. I know Hobby Lobby, Joanns and Michael's. No such stores in Germany.
Hope you are in the recovery period now. What a fantastic gift idea from one who has suffered as you have to take the time to help others that are going through the same challenges. 👏👏👏
This all looks great thak you do yu think it would be possible to make hats like these using this machine using only on hand I had a stoke 2 months ago and akeen to resume making and donating hats
@@caroldudden533 hello you only need the one hand to crank he would just need somehow to keep tension on the yarn, going into the machine and the set up row you need to crank and move the yarn back-and-forth so the set up row might be a little challenging for you but once you get that, all we have to do is crank and keep on. I’m sure there’s a way you could figure out all the best to you. Good luck.
Hi these hats look great i new with the addi express 46 needles i got it as a gift a long time ago but since i was working i did not have time to sit and learn i see you make great hats my addi row counter is not working i stay in all 0's i really appreciate your video thank you so much i will subscribe to your channel do you have a video that you can do the inside of the hat one color and out side another color
Cliff, that looks really great! Fun! And like a very cool machine. I am super fond of cottage industry type small machines. I could knit some socks for homeless folks perhaps, or others. That's a great way to create! Is that natural yarn? Can you do different diameters using fewer needles, say for children's hats? What an exciting combination of creating and giving! Oh, not to be rude, but you might want to look up the difference between what I think is called a square knot, and two half-hitch knots. I think the way the knotting goes, a square knot will hold fast where the others unravel. I wonder if half a drop of super glue at the knot end might be good? It dries hard though, so if it is pressed flat, it gets sharp. Maybe rtv silicone? lol Do the knots hold fine as they are? I'm thinking of the top knots, not in the body of the hat. Long comment! lol Thank you!
Hi yes it also does panels you go back and forth instead of keep going round and round I know about the other knot not sure why I didn’t do it Stay safe and warm ✌️
Love your hats! I’ve been doing 140 rounds, which I think are to long, hat is 10”. Can you tell me how many inches your 130 round hats turn out to be? Great video! Thanks!👍😁
Hi thanks for watching I bumped it down to 125 now that seems to work good. I never measured them not sure. If I remember when I’m home I’ll check for you.
I found that 120 rows were perfect for adult hats. I've made hundreds and hundreds of them for charity, for the cancer ward, local women's shelter, etc. They loved the hats. I always did the softest yarns for the cancer ward, and sometimes, a nurse would come pick them up on her way to work. I have 2 tote boxes full of them now that I was looking to donate somewhere. I got myself one of those little electric attachments because my bad wrist couldn't handle all the cranking.
Hi every time I look for your video I type Tuma Time I get something about trucks. I have to type single layer hat on Addi to find you. A part faire des bonnets... Que fait cette machine ?
Et à quoi est elle utile ?
It works in the round or there is a switch to do flat panels
I think those ridges has to do with tension - not enough - holding thread too loose.
When I make a hat like the video, the hat is too small for adults. Not sure why.
Hello I found it depends on the yarn and how thick or thin and how many rows. I haven’t made one in a while but I think I do 125 to 135 rows.
I just bought an addy knitting machine to do this
