I just purchased an Addi for myself. I know nothing about knitting. I have been searching TH-cam for a beginner’s tutorial and finally came across yours. This video is by far the absolute best I have found!! Thank you for helping a newbie!
You're braver than me, haha. I only cast off one at a time because sometimes I'll lose some of the stitches. I've had my machine for some time and enjoy making hats for charity and family/friends. I went to visit my aging mother over a year ago and took my machine with me in the suitcase haha. She would send me down to the local yarn shop with some $ and tell me to get more yarn, as I'd been making hats for the local cancer center and women's shelter. By the time I left I'd made about 150 hats.
@@jengeigley HI! You do amazing work, and you're the first person I've seen who uses machines. I just got this Addi Machine and I just noticed it is made in Germany. It is a quality machine. You will not be disappointed. That is all I will say right now . Wow.

Your video is very detailed I love how not only you explain but you point and you talk through what you're doing. Very nice video. I'm actually thinking of getting one which is why I was looking at videos in the first place.
Thank you for such clear instructions on binding off and the important tip about keeping the yarn-holder closed while turning the machine- that's not in them manual or other video tutorials I've watched.
Finished making my first hat following your instructions. Turned out nice, but I think I was holding the yarn tension too tight because the hat would fit a youth but not an adult, unless they had a small head. Thought I did well for my first attempt.
That’s great! Certain yarns I’ve used turn out a bit tighter than others too .. and yes, your tension could be tight. I joined a Facebook group for machine knitters and they recommend trying Soft and Sleek / Yarn Bee and Caron Super Soft. (I personally like using wool or wool blend yarns but am curious to try different things to see what works best.)
@@JenGeigleyKnits what yarn did you use for this olive colored hat? I love using wool blends too, and when I tried it with my wool ease it turned out small.
The hat that you made is that an adult size only, or can it be for a youth? Nice hat, very easy to follow instructions. Just received my Addi express today, and ready to make some hats.
I just found your channel and I want to say I’m a beginner on my Addi Express and by watching you, I feel comfortable enough to you take on the challenge of making a hat. I was wondering if you could tell me how I could place a stripe somewhere in my hat to break up the solid color color? I will be doing 120 rows.
oh good - happy to hear this! you can do it! so, you can do 40 rows of one color, 40 rows of another color, and 40 rows of a third color (or the first color again.) or you can play around with it and do shorter stripes too!

I'm thinking of purchasing the machine but im concerned about rhe hand cranking and not sure if it causes wrist or arm issues with repetitive motion. I'm older and don't want carpal tunnel or arthritis. Do you find it tiring and stressful for your hand and arm?
It can get tiring after awhile, but I take breaks. Luckily, you can stop at any point and pick up where you left off. There are also 3D printed cranker attachments online that you can use with a drill, but there’s no guarantees they won’t break your machine. (But lots of people use them!)

chunky yarn is usually too thick … it works best with worsted weight. (acrylic or wool works great! I’ve never tried ribbon or cotton.)

160 rounds was WAY TOO LONG! This thing looks like the dumbest thing I have ever made lol I’m so sad
Figures I did 40 too many igh
so sorry!
Not your fault lol idk why I thought you said 160 haha it literally looked like something one of the 7 dwarves would wear lol made my whole family laugh haha
I tried again with the right number and my family was shocked how good it looked
Beautiful
Thank you so much
