You could say that KOTOR had a Massive Effect on gaming.
Or some could say a "mass effect".
Hmmm.
@@NthReview haha >:)
Lmao i laughed audibly at this
@@thesummerofmark lol I'm a good ways drunk and seeing this. Miss you bro.
Based on how much you enjoyed this game, I HIGHLY recommend tracking down the Knights of the Old Republic comic book series put out by Dark Horse Comics back in the day; they're a prequel to this game set during the Mandalorian Wars and do a lot of calling forward to the characters and events of this game even while they tell a really interesting and complex narrative of their own. Zayne Carrick, Marn Heirogryph, and Jarael are all among my favorite Star Wars characters to this very day, and in my opinion they're highly underrated among the fandom.
Thanks for the rec, i remember reading some “borrowed” issues on my janky CRT monitor back in the day. I’ll try to track them down
Bastila: "The Force should not be used for personal ga-"
Revan "Shut up, Bastila. I'm on a quest to save the galaxy. The least the galaxy can do is give me free parking."
Bastila can be such a kill joy. Like, chill, dude, these goons are literally trying to extort me
Great job with this one Mark, I'm very proud of you. Glad to have helped a little bit!
You helped out a tonne my man, not a bit
You're a fantastic editor and writer. Really good work. I hope your channel explodes!
Thank you!!! And even if it doesn’t explode, I’ll keep making videos for as long as I have passion for the craft
42:00 ish - I mean that was kinda the point of Kotor's jedi even in the first game, filtering the jedi flaws through a more adult lens and discovering their flaws. We aren't supposed to like elitiat supernatural power hypocrites. Love the clip so far 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for watching!
i'm watching this video in little pieces. this video happened to drop as i play this game for the first time ever.
so to experience it first hand, then hear you talk about it, it's amazing.
Thank you, glad to have been a part of your first playthrough
Mark retrospecting my favourite game. How can I resist?
Thank you so much, hope you enjoyed it!
Very fun, nostalgic video. Great flow and humor. I really like seeing you enjoy covering rpgs!

Great vid. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much!!!!
I keep going back and forth watching this video in chunks and bits. Still, this video is AWESOME! It's such a fun and thorough examination of one of the all time greats. I'm still amazed that you put this together as quickly as you did. This is good shit, dude!
U are good shit

Good video. Fun Cameo. 👍
Thank you! Mandalore was super cool for lending his voice
Love how the lawyer goes straight to you being batshit insane
Hey look, Salt Factory just re-rel... oh wait, hi Mark!
Woops. Hey there
Your take on the distain Jedis have earned is pretty spot on - it's like Lucas was trying to knock Plato's Philosopher Kings down a peg.
I gave up on KOTOR hours into the game, about an hour after it forced me to abandon my role as a manipulative cunning smuggler and forced him into Jedidom. Thank you for putting this up so I can see how it plays out.
Really? You gave up that early......you know, you could go twice into manipulation and cunning once you become a Jedi. Complete with lying your ass off to the Council.
And yes, Lucas was showing the Jedi to be wrong, right off the bat. If their reaction to Qui-Gon teaching Anakin was any indication.
@@HolyknightVader999 Yeah, obligatory combat felt boring and like I was being punished for not playing a more violence-centric character. The early post-Jedi-training bit had me realizing that the non-combat sections were dull timesinks too... so what was I playing for? It felt like a weaker Jade Empire without the novelty in the setting.
(Nothing clicked for me, but I'm glad so many other people enjoy it.)
Hey no problem - glad you got the experience the game through my video!
This gonna be good!
Hope it was haha
Listening to this instead of actually playing it goes hard

Glad I'm not the only one who finds the handling of lightsaber building as a little weird in this one. Always didn't like that it was like "this is an elegant weapon, now go make it on your workbench, dude." Great video!
Thank you so much for the kind words!
This is a good video, but I'd like to add my take on the whole Jedi and Sith thing.
The Jedi being flawed and wrong was a major part of the prequel trilogy. Their lack of emotional understanding or awareness of how the Republic was corrupt was a major part of their downfall. However, it is also worth acknowledging that it can be inferred the Jedi weren't aways this way, that their philosophy isn't wrong, rather their interpretation of it is, basically, they took "control your emotions" to mean "deny your emotions." It's also implied Luke will lead the Jedi back to how things should be after redeeming Vader.
As for the Sith, they mainly exist to show that the Force can be misused and to show chasing your passions is just as dangerous as denying them.
It's also worth noting the Jedi and Sith are just two ways of interpreting the Force.
POG.

We all went through our pluralistic, libertarian phase in high school. Recognizing right and wrong doesn't leave a lot of room for "not taking a side" or "just like, everybody can be right because of how they feel, man". Jolee was an awesome character and he was wrong about the force.
great storytelling there. did you also play it full dark side?
Thank you! I didn’t - I can’t be a baddie in games haha
KOTOR put western RPGs on the map after years of dominancy by JRPGs. None of the other western RPGs could compete with the likes of Final Fantasy before KOTOR came onto the mix.
Interesting point, though I’d never know how popular JRPGs were since I’ve never played one. JRPGs have never caught on in my country as most were on consoles which were virtually inaccessible here
@@thesummerofmark Many were on the Playstation 1 and 2, and they took the West by storm in the early 2000s.
@@HolyknightVader999 hah, makes sense. Most of us Eastern Europeans were playing the Gothic series in the early to mid 2000s
ill save every one 2 hours yes it does, first time playing this year its good
You could’ve saved 5 seconds by not writing that comment so congrats, you just played yourself
Bring KOTOR 2!!! I like this kind of video, full spoilers for part 2, pls!
Thank you!!! I will. Not in the near future tho
A cool metagaming strategy (absolutely unnecessary since the game isn't hard) is to not level up your main character until you become a jedi. The game forces you to level up once, but otherwise you can save all the XP and get a bunch of jedi levels after the first act.
Cantina Elysium
That should be a band
