    Persgus is actually really cool on a first playthrough. The mysterious and intriguing story propel the player to it's completion nicely, but for those of us who have already played the game... it's hell. That's because all we are left with after the story's mystery is gone, is a mediocre and too long dungeon.
    The fights are a slew of worthless hordes of enemies, and the parts that challenge us are too far and few inbetween. The layout of the dungeon is almost as good as it's story, but the lackluster gameplay loop in this section *IS* _"prison sex";_ as you say.

    • @probablyswifty209
      @probablyswifty209  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree but even on the first playthrough of the game I wasn't exactly foaming at the mouth just waiting to find out what happened to unnamed officer #463. Although, I do recognize how the atmosphere of Peragus is can be very intriguing especially as you said on the first playthrough.

      @@probablyswifty209 I think your criticism of it is insanely harsh and unfair to what peragus is trying to do. It's trying to set a mood, and to establish the themes of hopelessness, loneliness, and communicate a story that shows a group of people blindly following the rules (continuing to mine instead of dealing with the ever higher pile of bodies) ignorant of the suffering around them as rogue powers take advantage of them, similar to what happened with the jedi order in the mandalorian wars

      @@Melanrick Peragus is good, but the actual combat of the area is abysmal. It'd be better as an actual survival horror section, and by that I mean, turning off the passive health regen(till the end), and making the enemies fewer and much tougher.
      If the enemy encounter designers had better control of how the player heals themselves, and gave us piecemeal medpacs; this section would be as tense in the gameplay as it is in the narrative.

    • @Melanrick
      @Melanrick 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thesurvivorssanctuary6561 Yeah, but you have to remember not only the tech of the era, but the ideas. Horror survival in this scale and in sci-fi is a new thing. Back then, it was as scary as it would get. And as far as games go, Dead Space changed things (Resident Evil was percursor of the genre but still, dead space amped everything up. We wouldn't have the alien game without it, for example).

      I don’t disagree, I just feel like there is a balance between the thematic quality of a section, the gameplay of said section, and ultimately the length of the section. While they are very atmospheric, I found them to be lacking gameplay-wise and far too long. Either way, thanks for watching man!

    Amazing video and it is TWO hours long?! Why hasn't the algorithm Gods recommended this video to a million people! Jokes aside, I really liked your analysis of the game since most of your thoughts were the same as mine when playing KOTOR on mobile. "Mobile" 🧐 Peragus was very very mid which I agree.
    Most of the jokes landed and made me laugh hard. Some kinda fell flat or went for too long but they're still good or okay. Aight goodluck with the algorithm you clearly deserve it!

  • @echoawoo7195
    @echoawoo7195 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    @16:00 Optimal way to play the turret section is to let as many Sithtroopers on as there are spawn slots (24), and then shoot the rest.
    They're worth 150 XP when killed in person, and 50 XP when killed by the turret. So most XP you can get from that one spot is (24 * 150) + (50 * 15) = 4,350 (game is SUPPOSE to spawn 40, but thanks to a 0-based index error, it always spawns 39) The least XP you can get is 39 * 50 = 1,950. That's a 2400 XP delta. For not firing a turret 24 times. And only 3600 XP if you let all on the ship.

    I really liked this analysis and the whole review. Your sense of humor is sharp, on point and really well placed. I also laughed my ass off with that HK frustration. I know its pain because everyone that played felt it too. Those silver MFs... Even my ex-wife lost her shit after the third encounter. She was like: "Who is this mf that keeps sending me those fucking buckets? Im going to kill that asshole and use his skin as a coat!"
    I liked how you approached the Lore and i like to say my piece about it, Kotor 2 is really about the story, the Lore, companions and dialogues, even the trash talk Nihilus does that only the pc understands, are adding to the mystery, lore, worldbuilding and most important, Kreia's end game. She lies, deceives and misdirects the player by using the other two Sith Lords, manipulates Meetra Surik by using her as a guided missile to kill Nihilus so her path is clear and in the end, you discover that everything she told you was bullshit and that she will destroy and consume the force if she can.
    And even with all that, the debate is still on and she is so deceitful that we are all as a community trying to figure out her real plans and whenever or not her teachings to the exile were actually useful or not.
    All in all i really enjoyed this video and you got yourself a subscriber. I really hope you will make more videos like this and it was fun watching all of this.

    It was a very cool video with good humor and good lyrics in general, it was a pleasure to listen to :3 I didn't even notice how those two hours passed.
    No wonder Atton's past makes you feel uncomfortable... I think it was meant to be, after all he was enjoying what he was doing, which is not normal.
    Seems to me it plays especially well for the f!Exile he takes a romantic interest in. And when a sadistic murderer (even though he's in the past, but the urge for violence hasn't gone anywhere, which is noticeable when you commit an evil deed) has a crush on you, it makes you tense up a little.... just a little bit :D

    Some notes about the video besides the ones about Peragus that people already covered:
    1. The amount of HK-50 encounters weren't that much in the vanilla game, there were only a handful. The restored content mod added a bunch of them.
    2. Darth Sion's wound was not created from Malachor. It actually happened about 40 years previous in the Exar Kun Great Sith war. He was literally just too angry to die. I personally find these tropes to be incredibly stupid.
    3. Freedon Nadd was not created by Chris Avellone. He was in EU source material around the 90s. He was Naga Sadow's apprentice and Exar Kun's master. He is one of the most powerful sith lords ever, basically top 5 at this point in the timeline and he was around 400 years before the Kotor games.

    • @VideoGameMarimbist

      Part of why the restored content mod added all these encounters was to allow you more opportunities to take HK-47 to them to allow you to unlock the unfinished HK factory secret quest line where HK-47 goes after them all. There is a version of it in the restored content mod but it isn't all that great and like the droid planet you can tell that it was cut for a reason.

    I know I asked and talked about this in the Kreia video about interaction’s with Jolee but here’s my thought’s.
    Jolee is more of a lighthearted character that talk’s more about life itself while Kreia deconstruct’s life.
    I feel like Jolee and Kreia wouldn’t get along but like you said (I think), she would respect him for not following the Jedi.
    Jolee I don’t remember too much since I haven’t played K.O.T.O.R.1 in full in quite a while, I believe since like early to mid 2019 when I 1st heard and played it on my IPhone.

I love this game for the most part yet the introduction to this game fucking sucks. But still after Telos then it becomes more fun to play and I can really enjoy the story. Kreia, the exile, HK47, even Atris and Aton, all well written and interesting characters that represent different parts of the Star wars universe. easily one of the best games ever made, so long as you download the restored content mod.
    I liked the gameplay sections where you play as other characters, it's refreshing.
    16:10 yeah, this is the stupidest thing with the game, the characters just run into mines like brainless bafoons, unless you actively switch to solo mode, stealth up to the mines and disarm them and then you attack. that is the only thing I hate about the game, literally the only thing.
    27:05 it was another battalion of droids, not the same ones. the doid in the station says so, learn to listen to the dialogue.
    fun fact: thre are 2 mods for the game that skip the first 2 planets or well, the first one, you go from the morgue computer to standing outside the ebon hawk and you just board it and you get all the XP and all that without having to do anything. the next mod skips most of the citadel station on Telos, you do have to go to the TSF office to get your stuff back, then you use a console there that skips you to the crash where Bao-dur finds you and gives you XP for everything you skipped too. these 2 mods are very popular because the 2 first planets suck, but I recommend you play through them at least once.
    38:30 wait what? You hate Nar Shaddaa? that's it, shutting the video off, the rest of what you have to say can't have any value whatsoever if that is your opinion.
    Naa.. all joking aside, why? I love Nar Shaddaa, it's one of the reasons I do it first and Korriban last, Korriban sucks, Nar Shaddaa rocks + we get one of the best companions in the game here if you play light side. the dark side one is kinda meh!
    some of the best dialogue in the game occurs on nar shaddaa, like the conversation between Bao-dur and Atton after the bounty hunters try to attack them at the ship, it's hilarious.
    Everyone agrees that Jedi Master Vrook Lamar is the biggest asshole in star wars, he is worse than Jar Jar.
    1:02:43 just like with Atton in the cage on Telos, Kreia bribes/threatens Mandalore into serving you behind your back. she is a master manipulator. she does the same with the handmaiden if you play male exile.
    1:14:30 they don't tell you this, but when she says she suffered indignities, I think she got raped by them and stuff like that. but it was a bit too dark to write I guess
    The HK units are on every planet because you have to kill 3 of them WITH HK-47 IN YOUR FUCKING PARTY to trigger the HK droid factory level ok? they have several on each planet so you have a chance to trigger it, thats why. But you didn't do the HK factory, you missed out, it is some of the most fun content in the game. but you didn't unlock it because you didn't bother talking to HK-47 about it.

    The Jedi Exile is so much better as a male character. The confrontations with Atris are better, Sion despises you whereas he has a crush on a female Exile (lame) and, most importantly, you get Briana who is a much better character than Mical.
    In all of the early art and material for KOTOR II, the Exile was presented as a male character. Until "Meetra Surik" was created in the novel Revan, which turned Revan and "Surik" into Batman and Batgirl..

    Hi there.
    As much as I like this game, the fact that it was so rushed and short left it being somewhat nonsensical and muddled.
    Specifically addressing the ending situation with Kreia: what exactly was her purpose in the end? Because she seems to list multiple. She tells you she wants the Force to die, and she says that can only be done through you, but then she wants you to come to Malachor V to fight her to the death? First of all, how does fighting to the death accomplish that goal of hers? Secondly, if I recall correctly, she plans to destroy the Force by spreading her influence and training others to let go of the Force as well (how was she gonna do this?). If so, why does your main character matter anymore? Why would she bait her over to Malachor V to fight her? Then, in the same endgame dialogue, she states that she wants you to live your life as you desire, even if it's completely going against her wishes. Uh... why? If her goal is to destroy the Force, she shouldn't want you standing in the way of that. Then she tells you again about Revan's secret mission to defeat "the true Sith", which also feels pretty shoe-horned in to this situation, considering she was just talking about wanting to destroy the Force, but now she's advising you to go help Revan? Okay, defeating the ancient Sith can be a stepping stone to destroying the Force, but it doesn't really matter if your main character doesn't adopt that goal herself and Kreia is dead. Also, what was Kreia gonna do if she did kill you? Was she just gonna go help Revan herself or leave it to him? It really seems like you don't truly matter to her, as she's willing to kill you as part of her plan, despite saying that through you is the only way to destroy the Force. Also, why wouldn't one of you killing each other not kill the other, all of a sudden?
    Anyway, do you see how this whole ending sequence is all jumbled up and doesn't make a lot of sense? I'm pretty sure it's because it's unfinished, but it's worth noting that you don't truly know exactly what the fuck is going on at the end because the devs just threw a bunch of things in at once and neglected to fill in some holes.
    You could say it's Kreia being conflicted in some way as an excuse, but that still doesn't explain heralding you as the only way forward while also being willing to kill you to preserve the way forward in her eyes.
    It has been a few months since I've really thought about this game so it may be that I've forgotten some things, but these were the thoughts I had shortly after finishing the game and watching videos about it, to my recollection. I have yet to see these points really addressed and refuted.
    Many people understand the game was rushed and agree the ending was loosey-goosey, but I wanted to be clear about why, as many seem to neglect to mention why.

    • @probablyswifty209
      @probablyswifty209  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dusan, thanks for the comment. I would ask you to excuse my brevity as I have to type this on my phone because I am away from my computer. I understand completely what you mean and to a certain degree I agree in that the development of the game was certainly rushed and - especially in the vanilla game (without the restored content mod) - the ending is a tad jumbled as the devs desperately try to tie together every plot point in a super rushed development cycle. However, I don’t think they did as bad of a job as you described. Kreia’s fight with you isn’t intended to end in your demise, rather it appears to be a sort of “test” of your will and/or possible intentions following Kreia’s demise. Kreia knows she cannot be left alive after what she did to the exile and she parts with you the only way she knows how. Then, after Kreia meets her end, her respect and love for you causes her to leave you with a choice. Either you stay here and train the next generation of force users in your ways (absence of the force) which (I think) is how Kreia intends to “end” the force, or you can leave Trayus Academy for dead and move along with your own destiny (not something she necessarily wants for you to do, but she will respect your decision as she knows it was your own). Basically, she needs you to attract the next generation of force users here and show them the absence in the force. This is, at least, how I interpreted it although I may be wrong.

      @@probablyswifty209 Okay, yeah. That was something I kind of forgot: that she intended for you to take over if you won the fight. However, I could have sworn she also said she would pave the way herself instead if she had in fact defeated you. Unless you think this was all BS on her part, I'm still wondering how exactly she would have done this.
      And I can't recall for sure, but was there ever a clear explanation on why they could now kill each other without the other dying as well? It's strange that Kreia would lure you by opting to just kill herself if you don't come (going off your words in the video for that one; I kind of remember that but not certain anymore), when you can kill each other and be fine apparently.
      I take it your earlier explanation with Kreia is just that she essentially had a duality within her, so her ultimate goal was not totally firm because of how she viewed you on an emotional level. I can buy that, but I would argue it didn't come off as well as it could have because of how rushed the product certainly was.
      It seemed like there could have been so much more to the game. Every/most planet(s) felt somewhat lacking compared to how I remembered going through KOTOR 1 for the most part.

      @@dusanradojkovic8190 You are right I don’t believe that the apparent connection and it’s lethal consequences are ever explained but I assume it was just another manipulation on Kreia’s part to have the exile go along with her plans. @@probablyswifty209 this is gonna be pretty long but I'll try and hit the main points I noticed.
      There are about 20 random conversations that lead to absolutely nothing as well as several plot points that are skipped over. In kotor 1 the biggest strength was the dialogue and its purpose, your relationship with Bastilla ends up being a huge matter as well as influencing the player to ultimately turn bad or sway her good towards the end. Your betrayal of Carth and mission and Ballazar actually affect you emotionally and how you decide to go about your path in killing them or swaying towards the light.
      In kotor 2 your relationship with everyone while it affects your dark side/bad side is ultimately meaningless in the context of your crew. I didn't have to speak with Atton at all during the game, and his character was essentially an AI pilot who didn't serve any purpose. Kreia and Visa are the only 2 characters I found moderately important to the plot yet Kreia only serves to influence you to the dark side (which was pretty obvious) and Visa was just pure evil and you couldn't change her motivation although you could have some weird force sex with her if you wanted lol- that is if you don't accidentally kill her when she first appears, as you have no idea she can be a member of your crew.
      I never had a single conversation with hand maiden and since I kept visa alive and spoke with her I lost all handmaidens influence and she actually refused to talk with me the rest of the game despite me not having a single conversation with her. But apparently at the end it turns out she loved me?? Despite me not speaking with her at all as visa mentions.
      The biggest reason this game falters is because it wasn't finished as 7 people developed it over the course of only a year, and inexplicably released it with a lot of glitches. Ultimately after the patches it's playable and a fun game. But incomplete.
      The other issue I've seen is that when doing the main quest on every planet with the exception of olderon and xhun you are sent in a general direction with no clear goal as to what you're supposed to be doing. You know you need to find a Jedi but you're just kind of doing random things until you figure out how to do the main quest. Nar Shada was so poorly done you really just end up stirring up a bunch of trouble until you stumble into the main quest.
      I really think with a year more development and a bigger team this game would've been amazing. But I've played kotor 1 about 10 times all the way through and kotor 2 I was good after 1 play through.

It takes themes and concepts from the entire FRANCHISE and expands upon them and makes them far deeper than ever before. Only in KOTOR 2 do we get the sense that Star Wars can actually be more than a simple allegory for good vs evil, blue vs red, jedi vs sith etc. This being the case, I don't agree that this game undoes or diminishes any other work, but rather deepens the entire universe massively.

The "philosophical" aspects of the game are just angsty teenager stuff where gloom edginess is associated with depth.

      It’s functionally identical to the first and has a far more in depth story with a focus on philosophy. It’s not really very edgy at all so I don’t know how you got to that conclusion other than you likely just didn’t pay that much attention. The only real detractor from the game is that it is relatively unpolished due to a rushed development but I believe the positives far out weigh the negatives. I don’t see how it is “inferior in every conceivable way” and you didn’t provide any examples apart from lazily writing off the story and mentioning that some of the characters are stronger, which has no relation to anything whatsoever. It’s a great game, and you don’t have to enjoy it the way I do, but your criticisms seem to come from a dishonest place because they don’t make any sense.

    • @khatack
      @khatack 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@probablyswifty209 TSL story is incredibly monotone and the "philosophy" is anything but deep. It's the sort of ham-fisted "fairy tale morality is wrong" sort of philosophy you should figure out on your own by the time you're no longer a teenager, there's no storytelling, just "you need to think like this".
      There are philosophical implications to all the little side stories of the first game, as well as the main story. Not to mention all the dialogue with party members such as Canderous and Jolee, both of which provide real world insights instead of the "hur bur dur, I'm in pain and I'm so deep" emo stories tsl characters have.
      KotOR has a story it tells, TSL has an ideology it preaches. And I already mentioned how damn monotone TSL is, everything is depressing and gray and gloomy, where as the first game offers a full spectrum of emotions and tones. Taris alone has major tonal differences as you move from the clean and more sterile upper city to ever more filthier and lower reaches of Taris, all the way to the sewers. Dantoiine offers both light hearted adventure in its peaceful plains and an ancient mystery in the ruins where you first learn about the Star Forge.
      And as for the power scale, I don't mean mechanical power, your character is pretty op in that regard in both games, although tsl is even easier than the first game. What I mean is the fantasy behind your character. I think it's the power fantasy of TSL that appeals to a certain type of person where you're so amazingly special that your companions are magically bound to your will and you can go up against immortals and planet devouring gods alike. Quite frankly it just feels like a sad attempt at outdoing the stakes of the first game by "being even more epic" without actually understanding what made the story of the first game so great.
      Aside from the story, TSL is mecahnically inferior, it's pacing and balancing are a lot worse than the carefully constructed progression of the first game, it has less encounter variety and even the loot is just lazy random level-scaled stuff rather than the handcrafted experience of the first game. Hell, even the running animations are a major step down from the first game, and many of the new attack animations are just weird and nonsensical.
      TSL is pretty far from being a "great game", it has some interesting aspects and a few compelling characters (Kreia and Visas do deserve to be mentioned), but it's not a cohesive whole and contains way too much ham-fisted juvenile wannabe-philosophy and just bad design. TSL could've been a great game, but it needed a lot more work in every department, including the very concepts the story is built upon.
