Thank you for the reaction. I'm really afraid people will forget about VIXX does exists these days. They are great artists. They are not just singers, but storytellers. Their MV, lyrics, expression, even dance always have a story. They performed the storyline very well on the stage. There's not much performers like them who can always bring you an emotional performance even without a translation. I hope they can come back again soon as VIXX
VIXX are really know for the way they tell a story in their MV that's really one of the thing i love about them & that's what make them different, the story is pretty clear (not specialy in this one but in alot of them) they're so creative (for sure one of the most creative groupe in kpop)
VIXX ❤ Are the concept kings in kpop. They are the group that really take the risk to do things differently than others back then. They change things in kpop.
Their music videos are so interesting. Their dance practices and live performances are definitely perfect. Oh, i am so happy every time o watch a reaction to Vixx. ❤
My favorite mv is Voodoo doll.

Still in my top 10 favorite dance practices, and one of the best live performances I’ve seen. Verivery’s cover is fantastic, and The Boyz cover on Road to Kingdom is beautiful. Vixx are the concept kings. Error, Fantasy, Voodoo Doll, The Scentist… all great!

I think you should know some little things about 'shangri-la' and VIXX.
VIXX is known as the concept kings of K-pop and have (at this time) the best MVs (with Davichi) in my opinion. They put a lot of emphasis in the concept and every details on it.
I think you forget that 'Shangri-la' was a 2017 MV and I'm sure you are not familiar with the elements of this myth or the eastern mythology (I'm a newbie too ^^) .
There is an important and recurrent aspect of the '10 symbols of longevity/십장생도' and the ancient eastern art (the gaze looking at the weird location and some poses).
Nothing official but this is my theory:
For me, like the lyrics (which are entirely in korean) said it's the story of a man who reach 'shangri-la' (an utopian eastern world/paradise) thanks to his love for a woman. Shangri-la is a world where eternal youth is given and where nature is everywhere, Peach is an important element of Shangri-la.
Every member represent an element of this story.
- Cha HakYeon/N is the human. At the beginning his face is covered, he is the one who eat the golden peach and 'reach/ascend' to Shangrila.
- Jung TaekWoon/Leo seems to be the portal/gate between the real realm and Shangri-la. You can see him on the rock between a lake and the sky.
- Lee JaeHwan/Ken represent the nature, his tatoo (the triangle represents the nature and the flower is his birth flower)
- Kim Wonshik/ Ravi seems to be the Lord of Shangrila and gave the autorisation to open the portal/Leo for the ascension of N.
- Lee Hongbin seems to be the peach tree who gave the golden peaches which give you the gift of eternal youth
- Han SangHyuk/Hyuk seems to represent the life of Shangrila. And YES the peacock AND the deer ARE ALIVE (you can see the animals moving during the makingoff).
In this MV every member put emphasis on their birth flower and birth stones it's why everyone is linked to a different color and flower/tree.
So yes 'Shangrila' is very abstract and you need to make a little bit of research in order to grasp the 'plot'. In 2017 and until these days this MV is considered as one of the prettiest MV... It gaves a lot of inspirations for others kpop groups. VIXX is also known as trend-setters.
I'm surprised you "hate" it so much. It's okay everyone have their tastes (not my favourite too ^^') ...
Maybe you will like a more "concrete" MV like 'Error' or 'eternity' or the trilogy 'dynamite/fantasy/the closer'...
I think the MV 'blossom tears' by Leo and Lyn and 'Beautiful liar' by VIXX LR can please you (even if 'beautiful liar' is on the abstract side).
I would like to recommend 'voodoo doll' but I think you will dislike it (because of the old SFX).

Their Error MV is for me the best MV in kpop of all time.
Voodoo Doll changed the "horror" kpop concept
Their Jekyll and Hyde MVs are something else, especially the G.R.8.U. (Jekyll) One, wich was filmed backwards, they even had to leard to sign backwards.
You also should check out the greek mitology series "KER" in order. Dynamite (Based of the greek god Zelus) > Fantasy ( Hades ) > The Closer (Kratos)

I feel like most of the gripes you had with the video tied back to the parts where they drew inspiration from the mythology aspects of shangri-la (peacock, deer, enclosed/isolated type set, lost looking for something type vibe)
Perhaps its my cultural background too? But those things always just made perfect sense to me lol. Now it makes me wonder how it couldve been better incorporated without losing the concept

Of COURSE I miss the stream where you react to VIXX 😅 Captain, VIXX is one of the main reasons I missed Bangtan's debut. They basically WERE my Bangtan, I followed them through their pre-debut show & was super invested. I still consider myself a Starlight 😊
I think the videos you'd find more interesting would be HYDE, G.R.8.U., Fantasy, & Vodoo Doll (if you haven't seen that already I didn't check before commenting I'm so sorry! 😆)
Since you mentioned "the dancer": N, the group's leader, is trained in contemporary dance & even danced in a group routine along with our Jimin at some show that I don't know what it was for (the one where Jimin's dressed in all black, has silvery-blond hair, & does the flip before running off stage).
Also Ken (the weird shoulder-shot guy) is one of Jin's best friends. He's insane in the best way possible (part of his audition to be in VIXX included him doing a perfect impression of a mosquito...he became my bias instantly 😅)

Very informative and immersive - this caught my eye because Ken of VIXX is one of Jin's best friends but poor me, I only saw him at the sports competition so couldn't actually tell which one he is. Like the choreo and vocals, I take your word for the shots what worked and what didn't so much. Hope you look at some more of their stuff.
I never catch a live stream, but out of all of VIXX's MVs I want your opinion on "G.R.8.U." because it's theoretically shot entirely in reverse. Other than that my favorite is "Voodoo Doll," if you haven't seen those of course yet.
They do have awesome performance videos, both as a group and as solo artists
