I am an actor and content creator with Hollywood credits including roles on Lucifer (Netflix), Starlight Christmas (Hallmark), JT Leroy (Universal Studios), etc. In this channel, I offer insight to Kpop performances using my 10+ years of training in dance, acting, singing and overall performance. In dance, my forte are contemporary and musicals and have done most of my performances in theatre. Although my channel is mostly known for dance analysis, I am currently inactive in the dance community.
Vixx are The Concept Kings (and no I'm not exaggerating), and they go completely full out on _everything._ I absolutely adore them so much.

I always love VIXX's concepts, the best was Voodoo Doll with that creepy style, the 2nd is Error, and those choreos... 💖💖
@@JeffAvenue Ravi started his own label called GROOVL1N last year. The artists he has under his label right now are: Cold Bay, Xydo, and Chillin Homie. He recently had a comeback with his song "Paradise" featuring former member of Wanna One Ha Sungwoon. The first VIXX sub-unit was VIXX LR and it consists of Ravi and Leo. The two comebacks of VIXX LR so far are "Beautiful Liar" and "Whisper". Is it okay that I commented this? Ravi is one of my favorite kpop idols.

I still remember how criminally unnoticed this comeback went, and they ended promotions early. Then they performed at the MBC Music Festival and it went viral, and they got to go back to promoting it again because people were paying it the proper attention finally (: this is by far my favorite VIXX comeback. Jeff, you really need to see some of N’s solo dance videos, they are AMAZING. I don’t remember my favorite one’s name, I need to go search for it lol
The song I was thinking about is called 인연, which I believe means Destiny or Fate. That one, and Last Fantasia are both absolutely amazing

I think it’s also good to note that VIXX is pretty tall as a collective lol. The shortest members are 5’11’’ and tallest is 6’1’’ possibly 6’2’’ now. They’re literally 80% legs 😂😂

Apart from groups that came out of big companies (like EXO for example), there are many others like VIXX , Infinite or B.A.P that shaped kpop around 2010. It's a pity for newer kpop fans not to know them, because they had a great influence upon younger groups that came out after them. Thank you for checking them, I'm sure you'll find them interesting and impressive for how they set trends. Also N (the leader of the group) made a beautiful performance video of the song "인연" (Fate), it's graceful and flowy and you'd definitely like it!

Also, until now there are just 3 dance performances that literally made me cry and one of them was N's solo performance called 인연. Just his moves along with his facial expressions.. It wasn't even sad or anything, it was rather powerful and delicate at some parts, but I felt so overwhelmed that I just cried 😅 (N is the leader of VIXX, he's the one who did that mini solo in MV at 9:07, you said it was beautiful ❤️).
Also a fun fact, N had a dance performance with Jimin from BTS and a couple of other idols like Mina and Momo from Twice. It was a modern dance performance and N & Jimin were the only male dancers ☺️
It was during SBS Gayo Daejun 2016 - for the opening the artists did an amazing show.
It started with the Classic Performance (a few idols who were really trained in that were playing piano and violins), then it was Modern Dance Performance with idols trained in modern dance or ballet, the next one was Rock Performance with the members of various rock bands like DAY6, then it was the Street Dance Performance with for example Ten from NCT, Yugyeom and Jinyoung from GOT7, Lisa from Blackpink, Seulgi from Red Velvet.., then Taemin had his solo, because he's Taemin lol, and at the end the Modern Dance Team and the Street Dance Team did a dance together 😁🥰 And all of that lasted for just like 7-8 minutes, so I recommend you to check it out. It's interesting and so cool, even if they probably didn't have a long time to practice together.

N is still one of the best dancers in kpop, he has his own dance style, sadly he's not that popular among fans nowadays:(
Why?
I can't recommend enough VIXX's live stage of their song Love Me Do on Star Show 360. It's not a title track & has no MV, but I think that particular stage is a lot of fans favorite live stage~~~ plus, it hits on things you have pin-pointed before:
- water
- floor work
- partner work in boy groups (which VIXX honestly throws into just about every one of their choreos~)
& there's a solo by their main dancer N, who I think is one of the best dancers in kpop, especially in ballet/contemporary style^.^
But if, for now, you wanted to stick to stuff with MVs & dance practices, my vote would be for Error next~ if you do, they actually have two dance practices for Error: the "real" one + the "Errored" one~~~ *OR* Chained Up (which was my first comeback as a fan of VIXX); its infamous~~~^.^

VIXX actually did a live performance on stage with one of those square pools of water, for their song Love Me Do. It’s my favorite live performance of theirs ever, it’s so cool. And it’s also my favorite song by them lol it’s not a title track though

Vixx are Kings. This is my favorite song from them. When I first watched one of their mvs I was obsessed. I know I'm weird so don't judge me, but their concepts are right up my alley. Vixx is probably the reason why I have a thing for dark concepts, creepy things, and chokers 😶😶.

Now... you need to react more from them cause you will suprised how they can pull many concept. I do suggest you to watch Error, Eternity, Chained up and Voodoo doll because these songs really have their uniqueness in it .

omg when he said it was three years ago holy shit i cant believe it was that long ago. but yes vixx!! they are known for their concepts and i also think theyre vocally one of the strongest groups in kpop. my favorite choreo by them that i think is the best and cleanest is dynamite (which was the first part of their conception trilogy that they had in 2016). thanks for the reaction! a lot of people dont react to vixx anymore cause they arent active since half of them are in the military 😔
i remember my first vixx comeback was chained up and imagine how shocked i was when i realized they were -sex- slaves and the physical album came with a signed contract saying that you own them lol

You should see “My Valentine” by VIXX. It has chairs for props and it’s a live performance. It’s breathtaking
I am so glad you were able to put it into context and give them credit for "being ahead of their time". The oriental style was not popular back then in terms of music, choreo or visuals. VIXX always brought something new to pop with every single comeback and they really deserve appreciation for that. This performance even went viral in Korea and they were invited to perform this for one of the Olympic events in front of the president.
I recommend you watch the dingo live of this performance since you seem to enjoy the vocals as well. And choreo wise I recommend Hyde and voodoo doll but you have to read the lyrics before watching the dance practice.
Lastly, (sorry its so long I really can't help it when it's about vixx lol) thank you for reacting to vixx :)

Omg I've never been this happy before! This brought back a lot of memories esp when I am so obsessed with Leo lmao. I'm telling you Jeff, VIXX consists of such good artists and there are actors too and you should def react to some of their legendary songs such as *Error, Fantasy, Dynamite and who wouldn't forget their body rolls in Eternity.* They have such cool concepts and they are so talented!

I think VIXX's best quality is their POWER VOCALS and their LIVE SINGING and choreo can rival other dance-based groups at their time!! Nowadays groups are more focused on dance rather than singing, so I still think VIXX is the bestttt
VIXX are the kings of story based choreos - its not as evident here but the peak of this I think is Error. Its a timeless classic, and one of the iconic emotional music videos (its a little cheesy since its old, but the core is still strong). Also if you want a laugh, google "vixx tall" to see absurd pics of them towering over other idols haha

Yay VIXX 😭 I get so happy when I see people react to VIXX... they're my ult of ults so I'm probably biased, but they're so special. I've always loved their choreography's too, so I'm glad to see a dancers perspective on it!
VIXX performed Shangri-la for the International Olympic Committee at the request of the organizers because the concept used a lot of traditional instruments and the costumes were modernized versions of hanbok! VIXX fun facts: They are the Kings of Concepts. From their 3rd comeback on, all members chose the concepts themselves and had to agree unanimously on the concept. This one was Hongbin's idea. Their leader, N, is an INCREDIBLE dancer and has a bunch of really incredible solos he choreographed himself that are definitely worth checking out. VIXX are also all trees. N is the shortest at 5'11"; the youngest Hyuk is the tallest, at 6'4" or so (he was 16 when they debuted so official profiles had a hard time keep up with his growth, he's huge now.) Because they're so tall, they said they broke a TON of the fans during practices by accidentally smacking them against the ceiling.
Things to check out: Chained Up (light BDSM concept of "love slaves"), Fantasy (first in a 3 part concept about Greek gods), Dynamite (also part of the greek god series), Error (cyborg concept, very dynamic performances!) and The Closer (incredible groove and FLOOR WORK!) And for N, literally all his performances are incredible, but my favorites are Passionate Tango (dance practice here th-cam.com/video/tlDp9shoiJ8/w-d-xo.html and performance here th-cam.com/video/RHuF5cQw1-U/w-d-xo.html) Fate (th-cam.com/video/_fGAXrexmJk/w-d-xo.html) and Lost Fantasia (th-cam.com/video/fPCDnABhqCI/w-d-xo.html) AND N IS COMING BACK FROM THE ARMY IN OCTOBER!!! We have missed him.
YESS Ken and Leo's vocals are golden!!! they're crazy talented and i really recommend their ealier releases (the concepts were very interesting and.. crazy) .
VIXX MVs has a alot of symbolism and references to the overall concept of the comeback..
VIXX are very thorough when executing concepts.. the music, lyrics, MV, Choreo, makeup and outfits are on point.. and they showcase the concepts effectively..
And the members are the ones who choose the concepts for it comeback.. and VIXX reinvent themselves everytime..
Thats why they are known as concept idols..
vixx choreographies are very unique. they're not always super complicated and hard to do, but they were one of the first grousp in kpop to use their dances to tell a story. they're called the concept kings for a reason. please react to more of their stuff!

I'm so glad you're reacting to Vixx, because if you don't know Vixx you don't know kpop! They are the kings of concept and their MV for Error is one of the most beautiful and moving MVs I've ever seen. And the choreo is so complicated and intricate. It's a piece of art.
Vixx have concept crowns for a reason. This isn’t a simple love song it’s about finding shangri-la - almost like the mythological search for El Dorado - it’s a place where everything comes together in harmony. In the mv they represent elements. Hakyeon is the air and scent, Leo is the moon and the tides, Ken is water and it’s source, Ravi is the riches like metals and minerals, Hongbin is the flowers and plants, hyuk is the animals. All coming together in this ‘perfect place’ they create Shangri-la. This song gained then recognition from President Moon and they performed this song in tradition inspired costumes at the 2018 olympics committee and hakyeon and Leo even ran with the torch relay. This was seen as a proud representation of South Korean culture in modern form. The choreography hasn’t changed since they first learned it and I believe this was done by husband &wife dancers/choreographers Keone & Mari who also did Fantasy and the fans were added by Yu Jung Wan. Hakyeon is a traditionally trained dancer and is recognised within that dance as having developed standards that are now taught to new students. He’s also choreographed and performed solo performances ‘Fate’ is the most recognised one which promotes his traditional style the most with modern flair. There is also a stage where Hakyeon danced with Jimin as he is a respected dancer and has spread similarly through a lot of dance styles. There are so many songs worth hearing mvs that give them the concept kings crown include: voodoo doll, hyde & Gr8U, dynamite, closer, scentist, chained up, Fantasy, Eternity, Error and much more. Yes They do a live dance on water for Love Me Do and it like most of their work deserves more and better recognition. They were firsts in arguing with tv networks to show the coloured lenses during live stages and I highly reccomend watching the 2018/19 new year possession and resurrection performances they did onstage as priests loosing a battle for their souls and vampires born anew. Ravi who is the 3rd top copyrighted composer in kpop, CEO of his own Label and still creates his own content as well as participating in VIXX. He also does tv shows, radio and much more. Hakyeon just got out of military start of October, Leo is still in civil service till 2022, Ken just started his military and Hongbin started his enlistment early after felt had to leave the group following a hate campaign from antis, Hyuk is solo singing and acting in kdramas while others are in service. I'm quite excited that you finally found this group, the Concept King VIXX! This song particularly has been one of VIXX's many defining songs. Shangrila tells a story about a "paradise" where everything is full of beauty, and it is pictured in a Korean sense, with Korean traditional clothes (it's modernized hanbok!), paper fan, and traditional instrument. FYI, the lyrics are all in full Korean without any english / loan words in it!
I agree with you that this song even now is still such a great song, but then again I would argue that most of their songs are timeless. I still can't stop being amazed at their works.
Also you have to like N (the leader, the main dancer)! He dances contemporary too and there is this one stage where he and other idol dancers including Jimin dance contemporary in a music festival! N's solo performance (Fate especially) is also iconic, you should check that out.
VIXX in general are such a good performers, and they have two very strong main vocalists that they utilize really well. They are also concept kings, and they go all out with their concept. You can find their lyrics being portrayed in their dance, mvs, costumes, and even their merchandise.
I'm probably talking too much by now but really, VIXX are awesome. Thank you for checking them out!

You really need to watch the video where ACE did one of their songs on stage. it is sooooooo good. since i know you are a fan of ACE, you would enjoy it. A.C.E actually did a cover of one of their songs on a live stage a few months ago! Check out A.C.E doing On And On, they learned the choreo + got all the costuming together in 3 days, its absolutely spectacular.

VIXX are the kings of concepts. They try new things and often set trends. My personal favourite is when they did the darker concepts like vampires(space vampires to be exact) and voodoo doll. Voodoo doll being one of my favourite concepts a group has ever done, the choreo for it is also amazing.

Something I always tell people about VIXX choreos is that they're not about the big, energetic movements. VIXX is about the details, the subtle placement of the fingers, the footwork, and most importantly, the storyline of the song shown in the dance. They're the concept kings for a reason!

Omg thank you. I have been a long time starlight and miss these babies. N is my favorite and he is such a good dancer and he knows how to work those facial expressions.
Another prop song they did is Voodoo Doll (they pass one object around). A lot of their other dances are kind of story based, they are not called concept kings for nothing, where they have even the smallest details in the dance. For example their song Scentist (story about making the perfect perfume) they have quick small details of them smelling their wrist like you would when testing perfume.
