I have an Orvis Recon. They don't have hook keepers because, supposedly, the hook keeper can affect your cast. I am thinking the hook holder would be a really good thing to put on my rod. Thanks Brian!
@@Madriveroutfitters Thanks for that. I always felt it was a marketing excuse for Orvis. I do love how the rod performs though. My other rods have keepers and they cast just fine. As long as you said, I do. I'm gonna get one from you!
Orvis no longer makes any fly rod with a hook keeper, it’s been that way since the H3 came out. Several excuses have been given. The one I was told, is that a hook keeper causes more broken rods. I think that’s even more of a farce than the one about affecting your cast. Why they don’t just be honest and admit that it’s to save labor costs, is beyond me. By the way, I have an original Recon 904 that has a hook keeper, love it.
I love my Orvis rod but appreciate the ones with hook keepers. Hooking to the third guide and wrapping around the seat is what I call "Orvising." It works in any form. Gotta Orvis before we hit the trail. No worries I'm Orvised up and ready to go. Oh crap I screwed up the Orvis. Gimme a sec and I'll be ready.
Those caddies might be better off with a metal insert where the little connector cable goes thru. It rips/wears/tears quite easily. With a little grommet in there, would protect the silicone "like butter"
The hook holder would be best for streamer rods with short leaders is there a reason not to use the first eye? I used to use them for my 9' rods when I first started but getting the leader back though the rod is frustrating especially if your moving a lot.
Using the hook keeper for tying articulated flies is GENIUS! As much as I love Loon products, I miss the old logo!
Thanks for being here.
Thank you for sharing these new products.
Thanks for watching.
Gotta love what Loon has been putting out!
We obviously do! Thanks for watching!!!
