Thank you so much for this tutorial. It does give me hope to try this. I have almost all the things I need for trying this, so am just waiting for my left hand to heal from surgery. Again, I think this tutorial is invaluable. Thank you.
ok....first, you rock! literally and figuratively. :-) I am a newbie and have supplies ordered. I'm excited/scared/nervous all at the same time. Sharing your 'failures' and especially, showing how to salvage them gives me encouragement. AND the fact you reply is awesome. Thank you very much. I can't wait to share with you my first failures and successes!!
I can't wait to try a geode pour. Time to shop for glass and stones! Your style is down to earth, informative and encouraging. Keep up the great work...and thank you. 😊
Since you're talking about tips, one thing I have learned along the way is that I never like using the hot glue gun and all the stringly pieces and parts it can leave.. esp if you miss some in the process...thats very frustrating as I know lol...so I just pour a small layer of resin and stick on the stones...it dries so much more clear and less stringy mess and the resin holds it down super good...many times I dont even have to go over the stones with resin because sometimes it takes away from the shine or the look. Great videos!
Thanks Julie! I go back and forth. I hate the glue strings but when I do 3D holes in my geodes, the glass slips and slides around in wet resin and doesn't stay where I want it. Maybe some day I'll find the perfect solution! Ha ha!
Your videos are always so informative. Thanks! I’ve been working w resin and made my mistakes. I did a beautiful dirty pour and put resin over it only to have it be sticky and when sat upright it had runs. After doing research, I learned I probably didn’t mix it long enough as well as maybe not thorough enough. So...I put the painting on the floor on top of a plastic sheeting and applied my heat gun and used a plastic scraper over the long runs and it came off easy. So far I am pleased w the fix. My question is this. Everything I’ve read says use sandpaper and lightly sand before applying another coat. Mine is too sticky. I think it will be ok to just apply another THIN coat of thoroughly mixed resin that has been stirred for at least 3-4 minutes. Please give me your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks. Please do a tutorial on application of resin as it is tricky and I bet there are more than me out there that have not applied it correctly.
First, thanks so much for watching! Second, ugh! I've had that happen as well and it is so frustrating! If your resin is sticky, you don't have to sand again. The new layer will adhere well and will get rid of the sticky spots. The video is a good idea. I'll add it to my list! Good luck!
I still forget to tape the back sometimes and I've been doing resin for a while now. In fact, I hardly ever even tape the back because if the piece is done on wood, it's super easy to get the drips off no matter how long it's been. Last night, I removed drips from several pieces I poured back in December. I use my heat gun and heat up sections at a time, then I use my box cutter with the blade also heated and scrape it along the drips. I hold it flush with the MDF and the drips come right off. I removed drips from 11 pieces last night and found that the pieces poured back in December were easier to remove than the more recent pieces.
Thank you! That's good to know. I knew that you could hit your resin with a torch right before you peel off your tape to make it come off easily but I didn't realize that you could do it with resin that had cured for so long. I'll try it!
Thank you for all the valuable information you shared!!! Could you have added alcohol ink to the center stones to color or dye them? I appreciate you sharing this pour. I really learned some great tips!!!😀😀😀
Thank you for this video. I did my first pour yesterday and had SO much fun. The end product doesnt look amazing but it was fun nevertheless. I had some issues with the coloring of my resin. I think I was too scared to add too much and ruin it so it wasnt very vibrant. I also think I picked icky colors to go together. Oh well off to the next one haha
Short answer: I don't know. Longer answer: I think that you would have to be extremely careful to not get it in any cracks or crevices. Also, the ps4 has vents to keep it from heating up and I don't know if the heat would be able to escape with a coating of resin and alternately, if the heat would melt the resin or keep it from curing properly. Sorry I don't have a definitive answer!
Thank you for watching! Here's the link to their site... www.stonecoatcountertops.com/art-epoxy-products I use the Quick Coat resin and they have it in a quart or gallon size. Hope that helps!
What a great piece to give the kids to use along with those jewellery mold pieces to use as treasure.
Exactly! They always get my "mess up" art. They are getting quite a collection! Ha ha!
