I'm using 1:1 epoxy. I weight everything out to the gram!!! Why is it I always have leftover hardener? All of my pour turn out great. They harden just as they should.
1:1 ratio is the way to go for me!! I am currently having trouble using a 2:1 ratio resin and it's driving me nuts! Stick with what you know! Thanks for this video:)
Thank you so much for making this video I am new to using a epoxy resin. I used some for the very first time yesterday, and my epoxy was cloudy. I was wondering what I was doing wron, but after watching your video. It's because it was just old. I had ordered new apoxy that I will be using. For my Tumbler, but I'm very happy. I came across your video so very educational. I thank you so much for making this.
Setting my cups of resin mixture in a bowl of HOT WATER works BEST! And speeds up mixing and resin seems to set harder and more solid. It will also prolong working time as it makes it more liquidy stretching the dry time. Be sure not to drop water from the bottom of the cup into your molds.
Very informative ❤ I appreciate the clear examples and detailed explanation, my resin usually gets milky/stringy and I even heard on YT before that if it's milky it's correctly mixed and done. 😂 I have been very discouraged lately because of my last batch. Literally made it hard to come back to, ended up bendy. Way later I found out I can just coat it with resin itself and fix it but haven't got around doing it because again, so discouraged 😩 I am definitely still a beginner and glad I stumbled upon this!
That’s so frustrating, I’m sorry! Bad info when you’re getting started can make the process so disappointing not to mention expensive! I do really hope that you get back into resin crafting though, it’s such a fun medium to create with. If it helps, I have a whole series of videos that covers the basics of resin - safety, mixing, techniques, and projects. Thank you so much 🙏😊 I will look into it and get I have no choice now that I know that resin eventually goes bad!!! 😂 I'm going to make the best of it and will definitely watch ❤️
What a helpful video! I have struggled with epoxy resin and UV resins for quite some time now. I've watched so many tutorials, but yours is the most helpful. So what happens when you've followed all the instructions and your resin still comes out with blemishes? These little fine line cracks I want to call them? I have ruined so many pieces and I have given up faith that I will ever try resin again. I appreciate you!
just take a blow torch through it lighter to the air bubbles takes it out less than 20 seconds you got clear resin don’t wait just take a torch to it Call it a day it’s safe it’s affective it works, I don’t have to put it in a mole you can use the torch after you’re done stirring take the torch do it a couple times it’s not gonna hurt anything and you’re not gonna have any air bubbles. once you transfer that into the mold you’re set.
Your best bet is using a long neck lighter instead of a torch. You risk ruining your moulds when you use a torch. A long neck lighter gets rid of the bubbles without harming your moulds. You could spray alcohol but that'll break the surface tension and eventually dry out your moulds. You could also use a debubbler, but they can be pricey. When it's cold, I put my resin in a warm bath for about 10 minutes and that makes a huge difference in the resin as far as less/no bubbles, and it's nice and clear. When you do the warm bath, it will take 10 minutes off your work time, so be sure to have everything you need ready to go. I hope that helps. Happy crafting 😉
Important point not to stir it very fast when mixing. In many video tutorials, they use an electric hand blender to mix the resin with the hardener or to mix in colors. But this makes the resin full of air.
The very first time I used this resin I miraculously did it correctly and thought I already got the hang of it but during my second time I was chatting with my roommate and didn’t realise how fast I was mixing it. It turned out so foggy and yellowish with lotssss of bubbles and I was so confused as to what went wrong this time. Also the resin dried so quickly before I could use it on my whole batch of clay pins. I was so sad😭 thanks for the information, I should watched this before trying it
@@CleverGirlsCraft The batch that I was mixing was getting hot, so I was blowing on it most of the time as I was stirring (I just exhaled the air from my lungs). As you know, out breath contains a LOT of moisture... The result - very milky epoxy... Lesson learned...
Thanks, the temperature thing I faced and didn’t know how the cause of it. (Seen someone use a jug with a push thing to pour resin, does that count as air tight?)
Please i have mix it slowly it white but the bubbles is still there And also did you mean if someone as pour it into the mode it shold be put is a worm place not cold place right
Try to pour your resin down the side of your container and then do the same with the hardener. That will create less bubbles. Then if you stir it clockwise, counter-clockwise and then in a figure 8 pattern without lifting the paddle/spoon, you'll have very few bubbles. Also, if you let it sit for 3 minutes so the bubble can rise.
Thank you for your video and suggestions. I’m new to using resin and feel like I’ve followed all instructions: 1:1 ratio, 75 degree room, low humidity, mix for 5 minutes, etc. I’ve done 3 pieces (free form bowls) and they are all still very bendy even after several days. I’ll give it more time but it seems like they should be fully cured/hard at this point. I did use alcohol ink but not overpowering amount. Any suggestions?
Hi, new subbie here. Love your tutorials thank you! Also wanted to let you know the link in your description for the “mask” is not working. Can you please let me know? Would also like to know what gloves you use and what torch you use…I’m new to resin and actually have a large project to do as a donation.
See what you're saying probably why I made mistakes first time really didn't have enough go round to it but good to know probably was nervous first time went stir it too fast saw bubble on it
Question, how can I ensure that the resin will be rock hard curred and not a bit tacky? I am very careful about equil measuring with a scale and tiny medicine cups. Q 2. If you use a tiny bit more hardener (part A or part B ?), will that help to get a super hard cure? Please let me know. Thank you! so much!
I always measure by volume not weight. Whenever I measure by weight it never cures properly. More hardener won’t make the resin cure harder, it will just throw your ratio off.
I used uv resin and add powder pigment ,it dry on top underneath was a flop 😔 please tell me what did i do wrong....I was making keyrings and bookmarks 🙆♀️🥺
Uv resin is best used for small projects. When you add pigment powder it gets too opaque for the uv rays to get to the resin. Please do more research. It's a toxic chemical when not used properly.
Make sure to check your measurements and ensure that you're following your resin's ratio...some are 2:1, others or 1:1, etc. Also, make sure that the piece has had enough time to cure, it can take 24 hours or more sometimes. Lastly, check the temperature int he room is it warm enough?
Often when mixing resins or epoxy or glue don't they add a few drops of super gloss and UV resist protectant I'm not sure if you add stuff like tyre shine or shiny party balloons stuff would it look rich glossy and resist uv and be more airtight with a few drops the wet look? Does it work like that? Some of the coolest smokey resins and floors is accidents long term where UV protect and gloss were literally oil and water and didn't fully mix and over time some parts maybe whiten while others stay dark like marble look but if u test water proof gloss outdoor washable might be different to other glosses the epoxy glues and resins might be like oil paints acrylics and water based paints and water colours where some additives oils won't mix in others will I think it needs heaps of experimenting which every resin user must learn DIY could your videos cover that stuff?
What type are you using?? Some of them don't have very long work time or are made to " quick cure". It sounds like it's starting to cure while mixing. You need to have everything planned ahead of time. All your cups ready. Your pigments, sticks, inks, paper towels EVERYTHING you'll need to do your project. Keep simple until you're comfortable with everything, meaning small pieces. Minimum colors. Etc. and use PPE. Always.
I just came here to say the first time my 13yr old son and I tried epoxy resin, it was a disaster. I was in charge of measuring and from what I look up my husband said we didn't mix it enough ... who knows. All I know is even after a full 7 day week lil baby Gummi bears in a silcone mold were still totally wet! I've been too afraid to try again since 😂. I just ordered a bunch of molds and accessories and stuff so we can try again.
Did you use the correct ratio? Mix it slowly about 3 minutes and mix the bottom and the side parts (the walls of the recipient). If you mix it too fast you will have bubbles. Try again and make those gummi bears 😀
A tutorial for people who don't read instruction manuals. Therefore actually superfluous. Also: When mixing resin with hardener, you must always use a spatula with a straight bottom edge, never a rounded one. This is because the liquids in the corners and edges are also captured. As shown in the video, this is really amateurish and bad.

Hi I'm new in this work. Can you tell me why my resin become flexible???
Bending is because of ratio problem or room temperature which is cold and also resin is old then also
I hear that air moisture (high humidity) may contribute to cloudiness... Any thoughts?
That’s very possible. I haven’t noticed that myself, but I might need to test it and see.

Separately, several days or pour back into container. Once combined only a half hour or so..depends on the resin. Some set up very quickly.

Can you stir resin to long? When resin starts to harden can you add new resin to it, so as not to waste
Epoxy does not allow deviation from the required mix. It's not poly!
No. In simple terms.
Hi I've been doing this over a year and recently my harder is runny and not think is it because it's off or am I doing it wrong please help thank u
Is it a new bottle or one that you’ve had for awhile? Resin can get old and then it doesn’t cure right.

Make sure to check your measurements and ensure that you're following your resin's ratio...some are 2:1, others or 1:1, etc.

That's the exothermic reaction. It will get hot once it's stirred and is left to bind together. Once it's hot, it's on it's way to curing.
