    I was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis at the age of 13. Most of life has been spent in and out of hospitals to this day. To me art became not only a way to pass time, but most importantly art became medicine to help me cope with the excruciating physical pain and emotional toll. As long as I'm working on piece I have a reason to get out of bed and a reason to make it to tomorrow if at least to see how my projects turns out. Now in my mid 30s, I spend lots of time at home, far more than I'd like, and my art takes longer to complete depending on my pain. Today was an exceptionally painful one but watching this video, witnessing your talent bring such beauty to life made me so happy I have no words. The beauty in your work only compares to the mother nature's talent. Life and time have a greater significance to me, perhaps because of my struggles, bucket lists and goals to some may be simple lists but to me they are important as food or air. I say this because since watching your videos, it has become a life goal to someday have a piece of your art in the most prominent area of my home to see it and fill my soul with joy. Similarly, I added a new line to my bucket list and learn to work with resin and make art of own. Thank you from the deepest corners of heart for sharing your talent and art with the world and especially with this humble fan from Miami.

      Thank you so much for sharing your story. You have encouraged me a lot. My 5-year-old son has a host of medical needs and has spent a lot of time in the hospital as well. I'm so glad that you have found an outlet to create and be happy in the midst of all that you go through. Thank you for joining my art journey!

      I agree art has helped me with pain, the emotional turmoil of living with a terminal disease, it allows me to relax and focus on something other than my disease!!! I did my first art exhibit and actually sold 3 pieces and I never thought I was gonna sell one. I love these geodes and want to try one but haven't man up yet....lol...shakes and tremors are part of my disease and it looks like I might have issues doing some things. But with those shakes and tremors my acrylic pours sometimes turn out fabulous!!! I wish you the best with your health and art!!! And as for our RESINISTA keep up your beautiful work, you touch many more than you know, thank you

    Thank you so much for sharing your ideas! I love Stone Coat also. I've seen other resin artists say they prefer using other brands to save money but in my experience, Stone Coat is not only the most affordable but the quality of it is unbeatable. I've tried other brands and hands down, stone coat is the best. I've struggled with finding a good way to do the edges of a free form geode. I absolutely LOVE your way! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

      YES, I like Vicki's idea too! My thought was to pour a thin coat of resin in the frame (of course put plexiglass on back before pouring resin) put geode in after first layer dries then pour in more resin on top. End result would look like it's floating in the frame.😁

    Have you ever tried this project on glass? I'm thinking that after it is completely dry, you can put it in the freezer and let it get VERY cold and just pop it off intact. Thinking it would also have a shiny finish on the back side that way. Might be worth a try. Happy Crafting!

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Absolutely. I would personally mix the glitter in to clear resin and then pour so that you don't have loose glitter everywhere. When you put glitter on top of resin, rather than sink, it spreads out over the top of the resin and covers your design.

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks so much for watching! I would think a hot cup would be fine. I use my coasters with hot cups. The Stone Coat Countertop resin is pretty heat proof. They have a TH-cam video of them setting it on fire and it not getting damaged! The quick coat dries pretty hard within two hours but still takes about 2 days to finish curing so I would wait that long.

    A very pretty geode. Just FYI-there is a product called nail polish thinner. You can get it at Sally’s Beauty Supply. If you have polished that are very low or just thick you can thin them out for spreading. It doesn’t take much to thin polish so a bottle goes a very long way.

    1st time we meet ...
    An idea... have you tried soaking it in hot water to melt any remaining wax & dissolve any remaining paper? I havent worked with resin yet. It's on the shelf waiting for the right project to 'try it'/'spend it' on & this is it! I'm going to make this with my 13 yr old grandson! He's gonna LOVE it!!
    We spent quite some time at Christmas at the Michael's craft store looking, many multiple times, at every single special rock they had to find just the right one for me to gift him & it was a geode in those colours that he chose. There was always a feature he liked about one & then a different feature that he liked would be prominent in another, & he had to keep weighing his degree of admiration for the individual features themselves against the percentage of the rock encompassed by said feature & also take into account any other specialties like colour & sparkle they each may have had to offer & I was right there with him in the agony over each eliminated rock because we'd have preferred to take them ALL home & enjoy the magic of every one of the special features they had in stock. But the gift was for just one rock.... the one that was the most precious & beautiful to him of them all. It was a terrific lesson in the practise of making choices if you have the time & patience to help them work through each option, & then all the choosing then 2nd guessing & deliberation over the 2nd choices & so on. (Of course I ended up buying him 2 afterall because neither of us could choose which stone had the feature we were willing to leave behind.
    & sooooooo....
    He will be thrilled to be able to make his own huge geode and incorporate any or all of his favoured features as well as choose his own colours.
    Maybe if we allow ample curing time we can keep adding layers every weekend until we have what looks like a whole 3D geode rock!
    Have you tried that yet?
    I'll let you know if it works though it'll be a while from now.

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Thanks for watching! Yes! I mix the paint with the resin before I pour. If you do it, you just want to make sure that you mix at least 10 parts resin to 1 part paint. The paint goes a LONG way to color the resin and too much paint can keep your resin from curing properly.

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That would probably work great too! I didn't because the resin tends to leak out under the stones and then you have a weird edge. I also knew that I wanted the edge to be thick enough for me to pour two coats and I was afraid that without creating a barrier, the second layer would leak out over the top. Good questions!

    Your geode design turned out gorgeous.
    Regarding the waxed paper: I set a lot of gemstones in resin for basket centers and ya know what works best for me? Clear page protectors that you can get on the cheap at Walmart (I do prefer the heavier weight ones). Just cut them apart and tape down to a flat surface. Cured resin pops right off. I use a 1:1 epoxy resin but it may not be the same brand as yours so I'd test it out first.
    Thanks for a great video. I'm definitely going to try this project.

    I love these geodes just subscribe to your Channel to use you as a reference because I noticed you have a lot of them which is awesome! I can't wait to try one I have a lot of finger nail products that I think would be awesome in this as an example holographic powders. Also I have a lot of really pretty broken china that I've been saving for years to make a omg can't think of what it's called right now LOL but I think that'd be cool to use in a geode 2. What do you think since you're the pro at it? Thanks in advance and thanks for sharing

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching! I mix acrylic paint right into my resin before I pour. You have to be sure to mix a 10 part resin to 1 part paint, or even a little less paint so that your resin will cure properly. Hope that helps!

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much! I don't use them to measure resin after the first go. But after I finish pouring with them, I leave them sitting upright and the last little bit of resin will all dry at the bottom. Then I just pour more resin in when I want to mix it with colors.

    I love how this worked out and the methodology that you used. The one thing I'd do differently is a simple thing. I'd use a cordless hot glue gun; for I don't like the 'drag' of the cord of a corded gun. Thanks for sharing! Gorgeous work.

    What if you were to use a heat gun it would melt the wax that's on the wax paper and you should be able to pull it off. The center of a geode is Halo anyway. At least all the geodes I have seen or Hollow in the middle with dragon points of what looks like shards of crystal poking to the inside. But the center is pretty much Halo. Hope that helps thanks again Deb
