  • Thank you so much for watching! This was a fun piece to create. It is a commissioned piece and got me out of my typical color scheme! And I love that the customer purchased a double canvas (diptych) geode!
    Note: If you would like to watch the resin pour only, skip ahead to minute 22:14!

    A quick note: Some people have asked why I don't share measurements when mixing my resin. I don't measure other than to make sure I have equal parts resin and hardener. Sorry! You will notice that I often re-mix as I go. I don't measure all of my resin at the beginning because I use Quick Coat and it would get hard before I could use it. If you want to know how much to use though, go to ArtResin's calculator and you can see how much to mix! It is at www.artresin.com/pages/calcul...

    Oh wow. Absolutely beautiful piece. I would love to try something like this on a smaller scale tho. But in still new to resin (about 2 months) and I'm a lil scared to just experiment. Plus buying supplies for the first time can get expensive. They may last a while but it's just the initial start up. But I will eventually give it a try. Again. Love your work. And now I know you are on Facebook I will follow you there as well. Have a great day

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yeah, the initial cost is a bit rough. Once you get supplies, don't be afraid. Sometimes things mess up but those are good learning opportunities. I was really scared when I first started and now resin is no problem!

    Rebecca, I didn't think you could add a second coat of resin after the first had dried without sanding first. How many coats can you do? Can you just keep going? Love your work

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Sorry I wasn't very clear on that point. When I pour with quick coat, I typically have my first layer drying at different times and with cracks and different heights and media so I don't have a smooth finish and my stones add a lot of bumps. I pour a clear flood coat right over those because there is a lot to adhere to. If I am doing a top coat on something that is already smooth, then yes, I would definitely sand first! I just don't do it that way often.

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For this one, I taped the edges off level with the canvas and let the resin run over. Then I took the tape off and poured my clear coat so that the edges were shiny and coated in clear resin.

    They look great, but to save even more time and money, have you thought about trying the foam boards that Sue Findlay uses? you could simply either dig out a channel for the hole, or take a hammer to it to form a depression.. the small canvasses seem to give you a lot more work to do.
