      The silicone idea is great too! Maybe cut the canvas and let your silicone center "fall" in a bit so that it looks 3D?

    Hey, your work is really inspiring, thank you for sharing. I want to do a large piece but I'm unsure what stage you would leave it to come back to? I'm guessing once it dries then anything you add to it isnt going to mix/blend and also the resin is going to create joins and even possibly overflow onto the existing parts that have been poured and dried already. How do you deal with that?

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So with the Quick Coat that I use, it will definitely dry between pours. That being said, I really like it that way. I do my pour in steps on purpose because I like the look of having some sections mix together as I tip the canvas and then other sections having solid lines. If you want it all to mix, I would use a slow-drying resin like ArtResin. If you want some more crisp lines like I do, you can pour your new colors close to the ones that have already dried, just not quite touching them so that when you tip, they meet up with the old lines but don't go over them. If you want a smooth finish even though you poured in sections, you can do a thin clear pour over the top of the whole thing. Thanks for watching!

  • @JanisGagliardi
    @JanisGagliardi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Very beautiful! Did the resin pour over edges? Or how did you finish the edges of canvas? Thanks

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Yes, the resin poured over the edges. I should show you guys the edges more often! I will sometimes wipe a thin clear coat of resin along my edges right before I pour so that it flows over well and has good coverage. It also covers up the screw holes from the second canvas in the back.

    Just started watching you & have subscribed. Very interresting. Do you ever do any that have a curved bottom instead of flat? Could you plz add your product lists. I am a newb so not familiar with much of this except acrylics. Thx much. Great job!!

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ooohh! I'm actually working on that now. In terms of this video, the inside of the dip is curved because of the way I cut the canvas and glued it down in. So up close, it's kind of a bowl shape. Still flat on the back. I'm working on growing some of my own crystals into a cup shape and then directly attaching the whole thing to make a curved bottom.

    I’ve used their art resin a lot but never tried the Quick resin. What is the difference? Beautiful work again! 👍🥰👏

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The quick coat only has a working time of about 15 minutes and the part B hardener is much thicker than the part A. It can be a bit tricky to stir the first couple of times but once I got the hang of it, I liked it SO much better. I was getting frustrated that I would pour my resin and like it and then when I came to check on it after 24 hours it would have run everywhere. The quick coat is awesome for pouring the design you want and then having it stay that way. I will say that if I want a completely smooth surface, I use Stonecoat Countertop's Artist Resin. I feel like for a perfectly smooth clear finish it is easier to get it completely smooth because of the longer working time.

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! The heat gun will move the resin around. If you want it to move, great! If not, turn it on while it is far away from your piece and slowly move it closer so that you get it hot enough to pop bubbles but not so close to blow everything out of place. Good luck!

    • @thefrugalresinista
      @thefrugalresinista  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I do! You just need a tiny bit of the paint. Too much and your resin gets gooey. I do about a 1:10 ratio of paint to resin, sometimes even less.
