The Protrek is more expensive than the G-Shock GW9400, which has the same sensors. A better choice would be the SGW-100, a twin sensor watch (compass, thermometer) with a recessed mineral crystal, 200m water resistance, large display, and very usable backlight. $42 today on Amazon US. It's getting close in price to the basic G-Shock DW-5600, but that watch has horrible buttons. I prefer the SGW-100 for its better display, the better buttons, and the extra features.
Protrek is 3 times more expensive than an entry level G-Shock, so I’d not consider it a G-Shock killer. Here’re some of the killers in my collection: AE1500, WS1300, MRW210, MCW200,SGW400..
