Wore a G-Shock during my 20-year Navy career. Inexpensive,, easy to wear, and had an alarm that woke me up for many a mid-watch while serving onboard aircraft carriers, a battleship or destroyer. The world-time feature was very handy as well as I sailed around the globe. I've been retired for over 22 years now and still have this watch - and it still works great.
Great story! Any idea what the reference is?
@@adamratcliffe5518 Let's see - Its a DW-5000C - one of about a billion sold back in the day. I bought mine at the Navy Exchange in San Diego.
@@adamratcliffe5518 DW-5000C - Purchased at the Navy Exchange San Diego!
That is awesome and thank you for your service
Great story, any idea which model of G-shock you have?
00:10 - The big question, around G-Shock, is not where do I start - but how do I stop?!
Teddy ive watching your channel and have seen your grow, get married, start a business, expand the business with a bricks and mortar top flight stores. You’ve been a true watch enthusiast without any hint of snobbery even post step and successful accent. Youre well researched and a true pro that found his calling. Excellent.
Awww it's Teddy's mom!
Thank you so much for this comment, my friend! I appreciate the continued support over the years! Enjoy your weekend.
Pierre, I couldn't agree more. This guy is GREAT! He's one of the few pros that I consistently enjoy watching and his advice is humble, yet extremely knowledgeable and valuable. May he (and Courtney) prosper for decades to come.
GWM 5610 is the ultimate utility watch. Radio sync makes it useful as a time standard. Solar powered. Rugged and waterproof. Power level indicator lets you know if it needs a recharge in the light. All the usual timer features, day/date, etc etc. I like a digital display vs analog hands for a tool watch - nothing to shake loose if you're out there wrangling a jackhammer or on the shooting range. If you work with your hands, are an outdoorsman, or just play hard the Gshock squares can't be beat. Decent styling, reasonable price, no fuss no maintenance, and reliable. Just put it on and get to work
It's a watch that completely takes care of itself, will last 20 years, and is cheap to replace. Also looks great on nearly any wrist.
Im looking at the 5610 face on this video and don't notice a battery indicator.
@@treborkroy5280It’s there. Look above the word “Receiving” at the “L-M-H”. This is the battery charge indicator.

Collecting G-shocks is an addiction in itself.
Oh yes. Thought I was out of it after about 10 years, but then I got pulled back in last year (now another 5 Gs added!)
For sure. Just ask Greg Anderson. 🙂
Yes it is.
So glad to hear that G Shock’s are highly regarded within the watch community. It gives us collectors with less money to blow on watches to actually have pride in collecting quality timepieces with legit history, insane number of functions and a coolness factor.
The GWM5610U is the perfect g shock. Red line round the dial, classic square g, led light to stay perfectly consistent on the 25year long run. It's even more legible than previous models from an angle too. Anyone who's been on the fence, get one now!
Never have one but I have my 5040pg I like the simplicity no myltibnd and solar
I used to think that until I got a GD350 and it's beats it hands down. The GD350 is better than a 5610U in every way.
💯I have a GW-M5610U and a GW-5000U-1JF. I plan on getting a GMW-B5000D-1 Full Metal "soon". 😄
@@JosephTyson
Do it.
I own the GW-5000U on a V2 combi bracelet as a daily, and a GMW-B5000D as a fancy watch. My wife rocks the wine red GMW-B5000, she loves it.
@@e28forever30 ❤ Nice!
GW-5000U is the best one. Made in Japan with the screw back case. The rubber is more supple. Solar powered so always running. Radio sync so always accurate. No bluetooth because watches don’t need Bluetooth (I work in cyber security, the less signatures my things give off the better). And it’s the square design. The GW-5000U is the ultimate embodiment of everything that makes a Casio a Casio.
totally agree
Agree - but personally I prefer it on one of the comb-bracelets, short of getting one of the ultra high end titanium square versions, I think it's the ultimate combination.
When I first saw the G-Shock, I said, "that's ridiculous." But they kept calling to me, especially when I found myself searching for something rugged. I still think they're ridiculous, but that's kind of the point. The DW-5000C is cheap enough so I bought it, figuring I'd just use it when highly active, but it's actually my favorite watch now! I did not see THAT coming. It's just bad ass and solid and does the job without trying to be anything else. Now I'm looking around for my next G-Shock, probably a Casioak because it takes "ridiculous" to a whole new level, but I'm so mesmerized by all the options that I still haven't narrowed down my search.
U can go blindly with casioak ga B2100 model, definitely bang for the buck and ud love it, own one since 2 years and I absolutely love it, with multiband and option and solar powered battery, u don't even have to change the battery it runs for more than 7-8+ years of constant usage ig, u can even look for other resin bands like yellow or other colors of ur choice, looks absolutely dope and eye catching
I don't know why u used the word ridiculous though, what's ridiculous about the watch most of the people love anyways
When comes to something tactical? I prefer Luminox. Like the Luminox Nighthawk
The 5610 is as no frills and utilitarian a design as one can get from a watch. There's nothing ridiculous about it. Every design element serves a purpose.
@@sandeshgpawar2759
There is no Multiband on these, only Bluetooth.
Because of its insane accuracy, my 5610 is the referencce piece to which all of the other watches in my collection are set. It is the ultimate tool watch.
I’m very impressed with my dw-5600. It’s even updated with a led backlight. Hasn’t lost a second yet and it’s been about four weeks. Looks so much better in person
G-Shocks make up most of my collection. They’re largely cheap enough for a (relatively) guilt-free impulse buy, and the variety of colors makes them fun to collect. The 5000U-1JF sees the most wrist time for me
I just found a 5600UE-1JF at Walmart for $25 the other day. Unlike the 5600 shown in this video, it contains an LED backlight which I think looks fantastic. Since picking it up, it hasn't left my wrist. I absolutely love it.
The 5600 could be great but that top left button is a pain to push because of how it is recessed. The 5610u is really the best starting point
Agreed 100%. Had to return the 5600.
Yeah, i hate that shit
The only time i use the buttons is setting the time.
Never use the upper left button since the firet time i bought it bro
@@garynico9872 You want a cookie or something? I don't use all the buttons on my TV remote, but that doesn't mean some of the buttons being too recessed to push wouldn't be a valid complaint by those who DO use those buttons.
If Casio ever came out with an automatic mechanical movement for a G-Shock I think the entire watch community would lose their minds. 😅
Isn’t that just a Richard Mille?
Never happen they are a tech company not a horology company
@@AnonymousTH-camconsumeryeah but most of the people won't be able to afford a Richard Mille, they r too overpriced even tho they r a bang for the buck in my opinion
Quartz is much better than mechanics in every category. Mechanic watches are for snobs.
@@AnonymousTH-camconsumer True, but a reasonably priced RM from a company known for durability and reliability would be sick. I'd nickname it the _Mechanicasio._
My brother in laws wrist was saved by his G-Shock while unloading his rig. A 220lb box fell on his left wrist, the G-Shock and his wrist didn't receive a scratch. The NTSB investigator said had he not been wearing that watch, his wrist would have been broken.
What model of g-shock his wearing? I'm just curious?
Whoa, someone from G-shock marketing team need to see this story. I don’t think they need it but just in case.

How did the watch protect his wrist?

You need to make a follow-up video regarding the MR-G series.
My favorite is the 5610. Me second favorite is the GW-9400 Rangeman. In non atomic form I like the 7900, 5600E, Mudman 9000, GD-350.
About a year ago I acquired my first G Shock; a GA 2100BWP-2A and I love it. It’s a blue resin case and strap with a white dial. Beautiful and tough at the same time!
Casio G-Shock GBX-100, with new MIP LCD reverse display. High & Low tides, Sunrise/sunset, tide graphs, moon phases, dual time, distance travelled, elapsed time, pace, steps, forged stainless steel bezel, stop watch, blue light & dual H pin strap buckle. It's from the G-LIDE family line & is marketed for surfers but fishermen/fisherwomen, beach goers or just active outdoors people will love this watch!
I have two of the models you mention, a Square and a Casioak in metal. In addition, I have a Rangeman and a Mudmaster. Love G-Shocks, my go-to as a First responder
Just bought the Rose Gold GM-B2100GD-5AER for 70% off (€179 about $200) at a luxury store (Bijenkorf The Hague) in the Netherlands, that was a bargain had to buy it. Wasn't even searching for a G-Shock my wife noticed this low price. Love the watch.
Wat een deal!
Laatste exemplaar?
@@e28forever30 Ja, maar ligt er nog 1tje bij de Bijenkorf Rotterdam, maar weet niet of dat ook voor €180 is. Ik heb hem gekocht bij de Bijenkorf in Den Haag.
I own several multi-thousand dollar luxury watches but still own three G-Shocks and 5-6 regular Casios. Absolutely love them! Like Seiko they offer watches that are really hard to come by.
I own two so far, love them. Worn when I'm doing stuff I'd never risk a mechanical watch during. Have the Casioak and 800uc. One thing I have learnt, ignore conventional sizing. You can wear these way bigger than a normal watch.
Every watch person needs to have a G-shock; ultimate tool watch. Takes a beating like no other.
The GWM 5610 is still my go to watch. Absolutely love that god tier watch.
My favourite is G-5600UE, it has all the features plus solar, it doesn't have a multiband but that won't work in where I live anyway.
+1 Have a bunch of G's (many atomic) and just got the G-5600 earlier this week. Love it! Like you, atomic doesn't work in my area so it's not something I'll miss and the watch is just subtly a wee bit smaller than most squares so fits my smallish wrist better. It's a small difference but it's there.
For people who lives beyond Casio radio towers the only advantage of 5610 is its similarity to original 1983
One of my favorite is my lifeguard warch in red, G7900A. Moon phase and tide phase is really handy is you love near the ocean
G shock Rangeman is a classic
Gbd200 is also a stunner with the MIP negative display and larger digits
I was issued the DW-6600 by the military back in 2009. I still have it and I love it. It's DW6900 is great but if you want the same one in a solar version with radio controlled time keeping then I definitely recommend the Casio GW-6900.
I have a couple of G-Shocks. My most worn is still my 5610. I wear it a lot more than my stainless steel B5000. As it is compacter in size and much more comfortable to wear.
I have the DW5610 and the basic CasiOak and they're both PERFECT daily watches and also have a good price. I just can't imagine having a watch and not having one of those. What's also good is that even though they're gonna last forever, you can actually easily change their casings and straps and there are many parts to buy online. Long live G-SHOCK!
Just bought an MRG for my 30th birthday, unbelievable. Better than watches double the price, just love it!!!
"An MRG" and "double the price" are scary phrases in the same sentence. 😂
@@UnconventionalReasoning haha true!!
In the last year I have picked up all those models plus a couple others.
This is a rabbit hole 🕳️!!!!!! 😂
However on that note…
I love my GMW-B5000 it’s all metal has a great combination of brushed and polished stainless steel its a great looker and gets a lot of compliments, I have too many now to mention lol Casio overall has an incredible influence with certain watch collectors as they have so many crazy models!! Really an incredible history too. Thank you for this video🎉❤
Yes, the GMW-B5000 is sweet. A few weeks ago was the first time my watch ever started a conversation. Between that and a GM-B2100, I think I'm done. Please, let me be done! 😂
Just got one a few weeks ago. Love it
To considering with CasiOak friends:
I just sold my black CasiOak because of minute index. It’s a beautiful watch but hard to read correctly.Maybe it’s my job’s reason(police),I need good visibility of dial.
But my wife’s pink CasiOak doesn’t have this issue,I read the time well!
So I bought a square,it can show the day/date&time by a peek.
Great video, I have Rolex,Omega & Tag watches but still love a classic
G-Shock!! And sometimes the
G-Shocks get more attention 🫣
I have ten gshocks but the one I grab everyday is the gw-5000u. My favourite by a clear mile
Teddy, you haven't mentioned about the GD-400. A g-shock with bull bars! It is highly resistant to impacts and crashes. An underrated g-shock model on the sidelines.
I didn't want a G-Shock, but with all the talk about the GA-2100 Casioak I felt I should add one to my collection. I found a used basic one in good condition for a good price on eBay, and I have to say after using it for a while I really like them now. They're perfect when tinkering with the car or doing some DIY and you don't want to risk banging a good watch up. I'd advise anybody sitting on the fence to do the same, no regrets.
Milestones of life:
1: Buy a G shock, check
2: Buy a G six, pending.......
Why are you throwing me under the bus?!? 😂
3. Buy a G19...
Besides of other Casios i have the GW-M5610U (i swapped the Resin to stainless steel case and bracelet). That great watch and my Citizen Promaster Diver NY0085 are my favorite daily beaters. And this year i'm looking foward to the new GBM-2100A in blue.
I have the Oak in Green and it is sooo amazing to wear. Love it as much as my Pelagos 39 or my Grand Seiko SBGA415…
Totally agree with comment below if u want to start a G-Shock collection A MUST IS THE GWM5610U as your first then maybe a G2100 range for ani-digi piece then go from there.... Great review great choice...
I've been looking at the land and sand one.. Well there are 4 or 5 different ones, but the one I'm looking at is model - GWB5600SL-4.... What drew me to this one was the multi-band 6 Bluetooth and all the bells and whistles that all the other G socks have.... not really sure about the material build of it I don't think it has like Titanium or anything in it but for a good rounded G-Shock Square, this discontinued line of them were brought to the Forefront when I was doing my searches over the last month or so.... but like you said here are the 5600 series seems to be the go-to for the newest and greatest... I just honestly like having the option of having Bluetooth and the multiband for the time setting plus I believe you can use the Bluetooth to set some of the parameters if you don't want to mess with the watch itself and being I'm an older gentleman it does help with that because my eyes are not getting any younger😂
Love the watches listed here 👌my favourites listed here have to be the 5600/5610 line and 6900 💯I own a GW-M5610U and DW-6900U myself.
Wearing my 5610, a great holiday watch. 200m WR too 👍
Me 5040 pg xd
LOVE g shocks. True beaters that can go with you almost anywhere. Love the tough solar series
IMO the square case Japanese made G-Shocks with screw back cases are the ones to have. I bought a DW-5035d new around 6 years ago and never considered another G-Shock since. Probably my favorite digital watch I own.
Honestly I would recommend people to forget about Casio F91W and buy G-shock DW5600. G-shock DW5600 is a little bit pricey compared to F91W for sure but it’s an upgrade version of F91W and tougher. But I understand the nostalgia of F91W
just bought my first G Shock, the black AWG-100, after reading up on atomic timekeeping I had to have it, so cool
I’m a budget/value buyer. I have a few Seikos and Citizens. They’re all great. But I love my G-Shock, too. It’s the only watch that caused my son to say, “Cool watch, Dad!”.
Getting into G shocks is one of the best decisions a normal watch collector can do. No lusting over thousands of pounds unicorns that you can't wear out or are `investments` (although there are some mad ones). I've got 50 now and the sheer vast mess of the thousands made, the styles, the limited editions and everything in between.
My hint would be just go tough solar and multiband 6 from the start. Knowing just wearing your watch will make it work for 25 years and for that 25 years every day it will be second accurate without touching anything is a great thing. They really do keep you on time.
Enjoy.
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops! amzwatch watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
There is nothing like a large G-Shock for presence. I totally love them.
I'll go for the DW-5600e, it's certified by NASA for space flight onboard the Space Shuttle and the ISS.
You missed GW5000U
Got my 5610 from you last week!
I love how people refer to "starting points" in watch collecting like we're learning to ride taller and taller unicycles. You don't need to begin at the bottom and work your way up, you can start with any watch.
My single issue with the digi Gshocks is that such a small percentage of the display indicates the time. For wrist-distance reading I need my reading glasses, which I only wear when reading. So I opted for a non GShock Casio for gym/yardwork with a larger time display. Still great.
Have been a proud owner of the GW2310 (with silver and red details) for many years. Love my G-Shock.
Absolutely love my 5610 wear it most days. Interval timer in the gym, smart enough with jeans and t shirt.
On the lookout for a 2100 that grabs me.
Well this is a perfect video. I’ve just begun contemplating wether to start collecting G-Shocks; thanks for the guide Teddy!
Omg be careful it’s soooo addictive too!!! 😂
Contemplating whether to start collecting G's? Some people will be polite and call it collecting, those of us down that rabbit hole will admit it's a disorder. You've been warned!
In the video I would separate the options as the two bookends, 5600 [square] and 2100 [CasiOak], as the 'standard' options and the ones in the middle as the 'high utility' choices. I'm a 'low utility' person, the most intense stuff I do is racket sports, so the standard options suit me perfectly. But for the more intense needs, it's hard to top the others. Enjoy, and good luck pacing yourself.
*As far as the GW-M5610 goes, the updated module, the GW-M5610-U is the best model. In fact, for a couple of models (certain 5600 models: GW-5600-U, GW-S5600-U, GW-5610-U, & etc.) modules with the U suffix are best.*
*Here are some maybe all (if I can nail 'em all 🙂) updated features in the new U modules which previous modules didn't have:*
*The Local Time is available in ALL modes, including the Stopwatch Mode, Countdown Timer Mode, and World Time Mode*
*An updated LED light, adjustable to 1.5 or 3 seconds*
*World Time Mode has FIVE time zones/cities for you to choose from, with TIME SWAP from your Local Time Zone to any of the programmable city/time zone you choose, thus making this timepiece and others a true Travelers GMT*
*The Countdown Timer can be set down to the seconds as well as the minutes and hours*
*The Date can be set using the European model, placing the date first and then the month; the day of the week can be displayed in SIX languages- Eng., Esp., Fra., Deu., Ita., & Rus.*
AW-500 (quite underrated despite being the first Ana-Digi G), GBD-200,GBA-800,GD-350,GD-400 are my favorites..
I also love my G-7900. Got it second hand for close to nothing, and I really like the big buttons, 2 stopwatches, and moon phase information.
I started with the 5610 and it is my most used watch period.
I used to swear by my 5610U until I got to my GD-350 and I've never looked back. The vibration alarm and the instant timer button on main screen is just perfection. I need it to time my breaks at work because I'm a trucker. Also, because I work nights, the auto-light feature by holding in the light button for 3 seconds is so convenient. I also have the negative display and it's really clear. I bought a steel bracelet and case set from China for like £30 and use it on my 5610U as a casual dress watch now.
I highly suggest GD-350.
I love my GW-M5610U! It's the #1 GADA watch I recommend to everyone and especially "non-watch" people.
Imho: GWM-5610 and GBD-200 are the best Squares. My GA-2110ET was garbage.
You really can't beat a G-Shock, great watches and virtually indestructible. Two models not featured in the video but that i can highly recommend are the MTG-3000BD and the GMW-B5000GD-9ER
I've never done drugs, but I figure it's like G-Shocks. You do it once, and you're hooked 😂 I started off with 1 roughly 5 years ago and wore it every single day. I've beaten the snot out of that watch, and not only has it never missed a beat. It actually still looks good too! So fast forward to this year, I decided to start collecting them and have bought roughly 25 of them 😂🫣 best bang for your buck imo, are the GWM5610 and the GW6900. Both multiband6 and solar charging. My favorite in my collection so far is the GCWB5000UN-6. Saving up now for an MRG Square.
Anyway, I absolutely love your channel and content Teddy as it covers so much from so many brands. I'm really enjoying learning all that there is in this new hobby and passion
Mudmaster line all day - every day. Super rugged, very legible analog dial. Only thing is that it’s a no-go if you have small wrists because of the size.
DW5900. My watch as a kid on early 90s and got me into watches. Only wish they would make a Tough solar version, and maybe a GW or GM5900 with metal casing and better strap.
I have 2 in my collections. GW-1000U - the JDM version and Casio Protrek series. Both tough solar.
i would also recommend the GA-110. Highly affordable in the used market, two LCDs and analogue display, in a chunky case with buttons which can be pushed while wearing gloves.
I have a classic 5600 blacked out negative display ... And a Casiooak in gray (the one shown in the video) ... Love them ... Wearing my Casual right now.
I'm with you on the 5600/2100 pairing.
Both Bamford G-Shocks are incredible. I love them and wear my Bamford Big G all the time. I also have a sand colour 2100 which is another easy, light and cool daily.
My first G-shock is the GA-2100 and I'm now looking to get a DW-5600. 🤩
In my collection of numerous Swiss timepieces, there is still a special place for my DW-5040PG-1 from the 40th Anniversary. Love it for a simple, no frills carry.
A G-Shock is essential for any collection, even if just to wear when doing outdoor sports/hiking etc.
I purchased my first ever G-Shock last year - I got the MR-G Titanium Limited Edition and i love it!
G-shocks are the ultimate field watches. I wear my 5600 for any outdoor activity like sports, hiking, swimming, etc.
I also would like to mention that videos about Casios are far more relatable than ones about Rolex, Tudor, GS, etc.
I purchased a GA-B2100 in Japan this year and took advantage of the stronger dollar getting it for around $116. With the Casioak style and bluetooth/solar combo, this thing is a beast.
I'm always afraid if I like a Casio watch, because I always end up buying two watches. Apparently it is impossible for me to just buy one 😅
I always think the GA 700 is overlooked. It is big and bold and is almost a mudmaster at ¼ the price. I do also own a gg-1000 Mudmaster as a favourite watch that I love and a 5600 as a more work watch. The GA 700 has a really nice world time function and is pretty loaded. You don’t get the compass and barometer type features of the Mudmaster, or the meatal push buttons. But it is a super nice tough watch, I really like the lower middle light button. I have the blue with silver indices and hands but there is almost an unlimited variety of colour styles.
Love my G shocks. So many colours and styles.
I have a GD 350, it has 98% of the features I want for driving truck especially the auto backlight so I don't have to push a button while driving at night to see what time it is along with the shortcut to the timer with the start button.
My dw6600 was bought in 1995..until now it is still functioning perfectly..
GShock is my beater/workout watch. Love it
Sitting here wearing a GM5600, had a GMW-B2100 on earlier today. Wanting to get away from the 'nerdy' look of the resin models, my two main versions are a full-metal square [GMW-B5000] and full-metal Casioak [GM-B2100]. The biggest challenge was deciding that the negative display is fine. With the Tough Solar, there is no battery life issue to worry about when using the light.

One of your finest videos yet. Love looking at multiple options of the same model/family, especially when there are many. Straightforward, to the point. Great work Teddy.
I bought a G-Shock with my first paycheck as a firefighter 16 years ago, and then another one recently with my last. The older one is solar powered and still on its original battery.
everyone should have a casio g shock . I have the RANGEMASTER , solar ( $ 216 ) - it has more features that I don't know really how to use . g shock is really great for the ocean/pool / outdoor work. ~ JDS/CT
I have a GWM5610u, DW6900 and DW9052, and am just waiting for a GA2100 or GM2100 with positive display and more legible hands and indices. The GM2100C-5A is almost perfect, but I want the regular resin straps, not NATO-style nylon straps. They seem to release new models everyday, so I figure it's only a matter of time.
Teddy, you're definitely a down to Earth guy promoting this watch style. Thanks once again for great content!!
As an alternative to DW 5600 I suggest you take a look at GW-5500-1 model. It’s a little bit more squared. I got mine in Tokyo back in 2017 and it’s been catching lot of attention since then :-)
I am always suprised, almost sad, how Mudman G9000 doesn't get more love on TH-cam. This is my great partner in house renovation project, beach activities with kids, BBQ parties etc. To me, best value for money G shock there is.
