Nice job sir! I was trying to figure out if the Santa Fe takes bumps in the road better or smoother than the Sorento which you described pretty good (since I haven't test drove both yet).
We have a Sorento. Huge electrical issues with rear tail lights going out. Electrical issues. We've had it to dealer 6 times. Not only a fuse issue. This is a common issue as I see on review sites. These 2 issues would make me NOT BUY ANOTHER EVEN THOUGH I LOVE THE SORENTO FOR EVERYTHING ELSE.. BUT THSE 2 THINGS CAN BE SAFETY ISSUES.
The 2000kg towing limit on the Sorento is such a dumb oversight by Kia, especially since it's rated to tow 2500kg with the 2.2D everywhere else like NZ and the UK. And clearly, if the Santa Fe can do 2500kg, so can the Sorento. Quite a few popular caravans have tare weights just over 2000kg and towball weights under 200kg that you can't legally tow with the Sorento, even though it would obviously be fine. I'm hoping this is something they either fix with the next model year, or even revise after the fact, because one of these two vehicles we be my next purchase, and I like the look of the Sorento better.

We contacted the Kia Corporate office to help with an issue we had after our car broke down on the side of the interstate 2 times after being serviced at 2 different Kia dealerships, Langdale Kia in Valdosta and Crown Kia in Saint Petersburg. Kia Corporate gave us the run around, telling us they would send our service request upper management to have it approved. After 3 weeks, they finally told us that no our car wasn’t under warranty! What?! It’s like they didn’t even read what we submitted. Kia doesn’t know how to fix their own vehicles and doesn’t care if they break down multiple times. This has been a horrible
I looked at both and preferred the Santa Fe (Canadian market). Both excellent vehicles. Too much cheap looking gloss black plastic, faux rugged interior styling and less comfortable seats in the Sorrento, plus Kia force you into captains chairs in the second row on higher trim levels over here. Both a very solid choice though.
Unfortunately Kia Australia won't offer 2nd captain's chairs in Sorento. Better (& more comfortable) separation for kids on trips. I don't often use 7 seats, and wish Kia would offer the option, like Hyundai Palisade (too large for my needs) in Australia

you didn't mention memory seat availability in Santa Fe? in the U.S. Santa Fe has it but Sorento doesn't. it's a deal breaker for me as I was considering Sorento SX on top of my shopping list.
Looking fwd to comparision between Kia Sorento Platinum 2021 vs Mazda CX9 Azami 2021. Also may it be worth waiting for couple of months for Hybrid version ?
We love the Sante Fe but we're looking at the Highlander to purchase in the next couple of months. Not a big fan of the Kia Sorento. The only thing that I'm not fused about on the Sante Fe is I think the steering is a little heavy but it changes in different drive modes.
Sorento is not exactly direct rival to Highlander, it's Telluride but sadly only limited to US and Canada. While for Hyundai Palisade which available in many regions including Aussie.
@@obidean3964 Highlander is the top of the range Santa fe in Australia. From what you're saying it seems you think it is a different model. The Santa fe highlander most certainly rivals and is based on the same platform as the Sorento. In Australia we have the palisade but not its rival the telluride.

Married/Female = Santa Fe Single male = Sorento The Sorento just has more masculine lines and says tough as nails even though its not truly off-road capable. Anyway, I hate it when the bottle holders are "just a little bit too small" to fit most bottles making it useless for your favorite water bottle. You always think, "how hard would it have been for them to make the space just a few mm larger? Just in case anyone doesn't get it, that third row is for small kids or temporary adult use situations. What automakers used to call jump seats. If you have a family or group where you need to carry 6 or 7 people regularly, then you need to move up to something larger like the Telluride, which has a true third row for grownups.
Slightly counter intuitive that the Santa Fe has the higher towing rating by 500kg but the softer suspended rear... Any idea why the Kia is rated to tow a lower mass vs Santa Fe with the same drivetrain and a firmer spring rate for the rear suspension?
I like both of these cars (minus the piano black trim on the Sorrento) - but why, oh why, did the designers think the third row seats need vent/air controls - but the middle row only gets vents? Odds are - you will have people in the second row WAY more than you have in the third row. It wouldn't have cost that much more to give the second row it's own set of air controls. Just sayin. Great review.
100% Sorento is a winner, having captain chair is so luxury. I'm in Canada and it seems Sorento SX here is more luxurious than USA. 20 inch Black rims, different leather seat, Bose sound system and more that are not in this video.
I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. I went with the Tucson because I wanted AWD. It has been one of the biggest mistakes. The first was getting a Hyundai. They don’t care about their consumers. My car has been blowing headlights- having electrical issues (my auto windows go back down when you roll them up, my rear windshield wipers go off whenever they want, my break light seems to go on and off at random. I have reached out because as a company they should only want the best products out there. I was told that “because my car is over 3 years old. There is nothing they can do for me. To bring it to a dealer and “see what I can get” for it. I owe more than it’s worth because one thing they don’t tell you when you buy a Hyundai is they depreciate way faster than you can make payments to survive. DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI.
I sure can - I have a CX-9 in the driveway this week, as it happens. Personally, I like the drive experience in the Sorento more. It has a better level of comfort and compliance, though it isn't nearly as peppy as the CX-9, which is a seriously speedy large SUV. The Sorento has a touchscreen for CarPlay, where you have to use a dial/knob in the CX-9 - you get used to it in the Mazda, but it's a lot slower and less intuitive. And if you are buying either for using the third row often, the CX-9 has a slightly better space for occupants despite no vents/fan controls, and it has airbag coverage in the third row, which the Kia doesn't! Hope that helps. Matt
KIA have undated their badge (branding), however it is not on the current Sorento. Go online and you will see it, it is a vast improvement on the old one.
Thanks for that suggestion. We've been talking about what to do with Carnival in terms of a comparison, and it's interesting to see you refer to it as an SUV. We think it vs Palisade is a good option, and maybe a third people-mover model, too. Cheers Matt
This is a contentious point. It has been changed to the same 'platform' as the Sorento. But what one OEM calls a platform can differ to what another says is a new platform. We say it's a facelift because it uses the same body in white, but has revisions to its styling and cabin treatments. Without pulling the two apart and checking subframes and metal pressings, it's hard to actually state just how much is shared on the new 'platform'. Cheers Matt
Kia all the way, Gtplus line offers even more and the interior is a lot better of the Kia. Ordered it today but I got a 7 month wait time unfortunately.
No way kia sorrento is better than Santa fe . Santa fe is much better car driving wise , space and riding comfort. Kia is good car but not as great as Santa fe
Have compared both and then gone for the Santa Fe. Reason behind is that the interior of the Santa Fe has a much more luxury look then in the Sorento. The massive amount of plastics in piano optic for me are simple unacceptable and look cheap for this price tag. Interesting point on the road behaviour. In Europe the Santa Fe has definitively the stiffer setup. Perhaps the Kia has got the australian trim which was denied to the Santa Fe in its recent edition?
Clearly agree with you, the guy doing the review got it way off and like i said his biases in his review towards the Kia ,maybe Kia promised him a sweat deal for promoting their Sorento😄

I thought the top trim for the Sorento was the SX Prestige X-Line?!?
you didn't mention memory seat availability in Santa Fe? in the U.S. Santa Fe has it but Sorento doesn't. it's a deal breaker for me as I was considering Sorento SX on top of my shopping list.
Also he said that Hyundai does not have heated seats, and not only it has heated front seats, but also ventilated front seats and heated back seats.
Going on Tuesday getting a Santa Fe
GOT IT AND LOVE IT
@@itsdimitrix that's awesome man!
@@ld9387 3 months ownership
Looking fwd to comparision between Kia Sorento Platinum 2021 vs Mazda CX9 Azami 2021.
Also may it be worth waiting for couple of months for Hybrid version ?
Santa Fe for me 🤗🤗🤗
We love the Sante Fe but we're looking at the Highlander to purchase in the next couple of months.
Great review - thank you. I would probably go with the Kia too.
I'd go the Sorento every day, but I'd take the GT-Line option.
For $8000 over the Sport+ just to add the push-button transmission, sunroof (which rarely gets used) and bigger doof-doof?
@@ScottMurrayBestFamilyCars and digital display, and nappa leather seats, 20" wheels, front and side cameras, gear shift paddles, wireless phone charging, heated rear seats, heated and vented front seats, rear window blinds, electric passenger seat, drivers memory seat, heads up display...that's more like the differences, not just the 3 things you mentioned mate
Married/Female = Santa Fe
Single male = Sorento
The Sorento just has more masculine lines and says tough as nails even though its not truly off-road capable.
I have heard it all has to do with tow bar design they are different to each other
I like both of these cars (minus the piano black trim on the Sorrento) - but why, oh why, did the designers think the third row seats need vent/air controls - but the middle row only gets vents?
What is the real fuel consumption on a long trip without battery?
5.8 to 6 lt per 100 km country driving 2017 Kia Sorrento with 6 speed traditional auto. Australia DCT8 speed should be a bit better on diesel.
I like kia exterior & Hyundai interior
Do either of them have active shadowing?
After 12:03, the cars were swapped left/right positions
Hey Matt can you give your thoughts on the Sorento and CX9
Matt
@@carsguide sweet thanks heaps, been on the fence between the two.
I bought a 21 Sorento. Love it
Which SUV has the third row head airbag?
Neither of these SUVs has third-row airbag protection for rear-row occupants.
I would like to see a comparison with the top spec versions for each.
Nice review
Had the Sorento GT line for about 3 weeks now and love it.
What color is it santa fe?
Do the rear seats recline?
I ❤️Sorento
santa fe .. wow great colour
Santa Fe me likey. 👌🏼
Thanks for your wonderful comments and ratings. I really appreciate ❤️.
I'll advise you to invest in crypto like I do and make good profits as it's currently the most profitable investment after telsa.

Great review....congrats
Not that the KIA badge/logo is the best out there, but I feel that the Hyundai badge/logo is not nice at all. They both need updating.
KIA have undated their badge (branding), however it is not on the current Sorento. Go online and you will see it, it is a vast improvement on the old one.
76k for the kia and 85k for the hyundai price tag i dont know why hyundai is so expensive in nz
Bro tax.
Nice review hope you can review palisade vs carnival suv vs people mover thanks
Thanks for that suggestion. We've been talking about what to do with Carnival in terms of a comparison, and it's interesting to see you refer to it as an SUV. We think it vs Palisade is a good option, and maybe a third people-mover model, too.
Cheers
Matt
@@carsguide the only real comparison body-wise is the Odyssey isn't it ? haha.
Isn't the SantaFe a platform change and not just a face lift?
This is a contentious point. It has been changed to the same 'platform' as the Sorento. But what one OEM calls a platform can differ to what another says is a new platform. We say it's a facelift because it uses the same body in white, but has revisions to its styling and cabin treatments. Without pulling the two apart and checking subframes and metal pressings, it's hard to actually state just how much is shared on the new 'platform'.
Cheers
Matt
@@carsguide Thanks, appreciate the details Matt :)
I'm confused 😂
The only downside of the Kia Sorento is the airbag doesn't extend to 3rd row. Would love to see the comparison when the new Hybrid Kluger arrived.
It's a pretty significant oversight for both of these cars - especially the Kia, which has third-row child seat anchor points, too. Sad.
Cheers
Matt
Ah yes, the kluger Hybrid with its mighty 250nm of torque in a 2 tonne vehicle.
You needed to compare the 3rd or 4th trim of kia, you're comparing the base model Kia coz the 3rd or 4th come with a hell of a lot more option
Thanks for the elaborated awesome review.
That HeUnDay is a good looking vehicle.
Kia Sorento just smashes it!
I'd rather go for it.
Great review, and couldn't have come at a better time for me! Sorrento it will be...!
Glad it was helpful mate!
Cheers
Matt
Do the pajero sport vs the Santa Fe
They both are very similar just Kia Sorrento has a more modern appearance.
I’m leaning towards the Sorento and you also get the Kia 7!year warranty which is better than Hyundai 5yr warranty.
Hyundai does 10 year
@@DEFCON1. I think they are not in the US. So both of you are correct
192cm is not 6 foot..6 foot is 182cm, please clear this up cause we don't know your size at this point
I said I'm 182cm or six-foot. That's how tall I am. Not 192cm.
Thanks
Matt
Time to remove your ear wax!
@@carsguide I apologize, somehow I menaged to hear wrong a couple of times in a row🤦🏻♂️😅
I thought 2021 Sorento uses the dial transmission knob...
In the higher level GT line
Depends on the spec. GT-Line gets the dial, the rest have a stick (in Australia).
Cheers
Matt
I got a Gt line sorento and its got dial type. I miss the gear stick rather than dial type. I could rest my left hand on the stick now i cant.
Love my sorento . A sleeper with this turbo
