We traded in our 2019 Kia forte, for a 2022 Hyundai Santa fe SEL AWD. Were heavily considering the sorrento, but honestly I loved the style of the Santa Fe more, we've already taken our car on 2 road trips, and the Santa Fe does a perfect job in the snow.
    We love the Hyundai.

Picked up the Santa Fe Hybrid almost a month ago. I have no problems with this vehicle. I dont pull out into traffic so the slight hesitation is not an issue. And if I know I’m driving in an area where I know traffic is bad, I just dial it to sport. No wind noise. No road noise. No hot or cool air inside the interior with the pano roof shade open. The button push gear shift is great instead of the straight up and down in all vehicles. The power in the Santa Fe is a better vehicle to me inside and out and I like the ride better because it feels more luxurious. I drove the Kia and I hate its design inside and out. 😂 Good review though.

Sorento looks more muscular, Santa Fe’s front facial is sort of weird to me. I also prefer the Sorento interior, simple streamlined and driver space feels spacious. The Santa Fe driver space feels crowded because of the high positioning of the center console. I test drove Santa Fe first, but the outside look and the inside clutter made me steer away. Now, a Sorento Ex owner, 8000miles later, still love this beauty.

If you are thinking of getting either of these vehicles test drive them both. Last summer I tested the limited Santa Fe (no calligraphy models in stock locally at the time). I thought this was the car I was going to want, having had several Hyundai vehicles previously and not having a good impression of Kia. The Santa Fe has a high seating position (couldn’t rest my right elbow on the center console while touching steering wheel), a stupidly skinny steering wheel, kind of hard seats, a very bouncy ride that swayed side to side a lot & mushy steering which made it no fun to drive. The final straw was that mess of buttons in the center console. The angle of those buttons and the shiny fake aluminum plastic that is used for those buttons, gives off a glare when the sun hits it. Seriously, test drove around noon and with the sunroof open I had to hold my hand over the buttons to see what they were. And they are all grouped together in one big mess. I hadn’t planned on looking at the Sorento but went to look at one on the off chance I wouldn’t hate it. Every single problem listed above is not a problem with the Kia. It has much tighter suspension and steering, wider and cushier seats, logically placed buttons at a not weird angle. And the styling is more aggressive and fun compared to the bland mom style Santa Fe. Still get compliments today on it. Got the x line in the everlasting gray and same interior as the one in this video.

I am ~3000 miles in and I'm loving everything about it. smooth driving experience and looks very handsome. I get compliments on all the tech it has and the looks. If I had to guess, that off-roady squared off look versus a more refined look, coupled with the differences in chassis tuning, might be a good strategy for Hyundai/Kia going forward. They tried doing something similar with Telluride and Palisade, but unfortunately end up with just kinda ugly instead of refined on the Palisade.

I read through the majority of the post and I must have missed the comparisons of Gas Milage . I just traded a 2022 KIA Niro for a KIA Sorento with AWD Turbo engine. I love this car, as it is the best equipped car I ever had . My wife drives a 2005 Venza v6 and will not let me trade it , it only has 43,000 miles on it and it is perfect .
What I would like to know is what the average person gets in Milage with the AWD version . I see all kinds of milage showing up on my dash board , but it seems to maintain 33 MPG, both road and highway. Can anyone that has the same configuration tell me their average milage ? This milage is the best I have ever got in any cars I owned . I am curious as to what others are getting , I use my cars for local trips . It does seem to run on EV a great deal . Any suggestions on driving style ?

AWD is great for accelerating in slippery conditions, but it does not improve rolling traction as I believe you’re describing when talking about the 50:50 torque distribution mode. This is such a common misunderstanding - and dangerous. Nothing like watching the AWD vehicles speeding through snow like they have magical braking and steering powers because all 4 wheels are attached to the motor.

I have to agree with many other comments.
And my opinion hasn’t changed since these two new-generation models debuted.
I was always forgiving of the exterior looks one the Santa Fe - primarily because the interior looked very nice.
But without a question I was always partial to the exterior of the Sorento. Very aggressive, sharp, and while still maintaining a relatively level design along other mainstream appearances - very attractive.
One thing that I wish could be done is two just combine the two. Get the exterior of the Sorento with the interior of the Santa Fe. Yes, i know some say it’s too intrusive and up in your face - but the interior of the Sorento sort of has an ugly look to it, what with the vents, all that piano black plastic, and not to mention more capacitive touch controls.
Obviously that will never happen and this is just one person’s opinion.
One thing that made this “competition” much closer with the 2022 model is the fact that they added driver seat memory to the Sorento, which was fully omitted on the 2021 models. This specific feature is key in our next purchase as - if we are going to spend that much money on a vehicle we may as well have the features that add convenience - and with the size difference between myself and my petite wife, it’s worth it to have especially after having it on our Sedan.
But of course with the extreme markups on nearly, if not all, vehicles it could be quite a while before we make the plunge and buy our first SUV.

  • @mrmillner87
    @mrmillner87 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I prefer the design of the Sorento, Santa Fe needs a total redesign, which is expected in 2023 as a 2024 model. Sorrento may get a small facelift with updated headlights and tail lights, and a large single screen infotainment like on the 2023 telluride. Where I live the Santa Fe is the better deal. All the Kia dealerships are charging $5k-$15k “market adjustment” which is a rip off. Hyundai across the street is selling at msrp so for a super close competitor, the Kia locally loses that value.

So many folks wanna push you up from this category (larger Compact SUV's) to the Teluride and the Palisade. Well, lots of people need nothing that big! Me, I am torn between the Sorento, the new Tucson and the Seltos. I think the Tucson may be the best 'smaller vehicle with the right features', as the Seltos is missing a lot of useful equipment.

Yeah, so many reviews talking about these compared to the Telluride. 1. These people are OBVIOUSLY not ACTUALLY trying to buy a 2022 Telluride in this market. GOOD LUCK. With $12K dealer markups for "market adjustments" bc of all the insane reviews (IF you can even find one). 2. MPG?! No one cares about the horrible gas guzzler that the Telluride is?! I actually could use the space in it, but definitely not buying something that gets that bad gas mileage in 2022 when there are so many hybrid and electric cars available.
