Wondering if Mario Builder 64 runs on an actual Nintendo 64? Watch this video to find out: th-cam.com/video/41qD7XfXK1Y/w-d-xo.html
It's a generous service, making Mario Maker 3 so that Kaze doesn't have to
I heard that guy hates money or something
Too late, he did make it 3 or so years ago
He should rerelease Super Mario 64 and call it Super Mario Maker 3D
@@promaster424 It was 5 years ago, and it was very clunky to use, and the levels were very limited.
@@rovertronic That's true, I'm just stating the fact.
Your level maker is a lot better and if you're willing to make updates to it it could become one of the most popular hacks ever made.
This legit looks really good. Can't wait to see more!
Found you!
60 likes and 1 comment? Lemme fix that
@DGR_Dave you NEED to play this when it comes out!
only 5 comments?
YES. It would be amazing to see him try to make a mario 64 level@@_RK_800_
I am sure we all respect Kaze Emanuar and his mods, but we must admit this Mario Maker 64 is looking better (easy to use and more intuitive) than Kaze's Mario Maker 64.
I definitely will be tuned for updates and release date!!
to be fair, kaze made that one years ago
i had to make mine in assembly :'( life wasn't so easy back then
with decomp, it's to be expected
@@KazeClips
You could've made something similar to this in assembly tbh
definitely would take a lot more time and elbow grease though, so i can see why it wouldn't be worth the effort to make this in ASM
@@rovertronic well yeah this was possible in a hex editor in 2002 as well if someone REALLY wanted to do that
I suggest that the trees become dead trees in the lava theme (like the ones in doom)
Good idea!
Would love a polygon platform painter like that from Smash Ultimate. Having wonky shapes in mario 64 is very on style.
Hopefully after you release it, you still continue to support it and add new features. Something as cool as this shouldn't have to fall out of relevancy a week after it releases like Kaze's version ...or Mario Maker 2.
I'll do as many content updates as I can. I'll also have to get a feel for what people make and what they request when it releases.
This looks really cool! If I could suggest something, I saw you build an arrow out of wood, why not make an arrow "block"? It'd probably be more 2D with a little width and would also allow you to rotate it in all three dimensions (maybe via a sub-menu specifically for it or some other way)
I was thinking he could use the slope blocks to round it out a bit more
Doesn't an arrow block exist in one of the bowser levels?
I added upside-down slopes recently, so you can make something that actually looks like an arrow, and not... an upside down cross.
If u could have the triangle side up (in all rotations) u dont have to make squares for platforms or clouds
Seeing that you're including different powerups tells me you're going in a really good direction with this, and I think what makes these sorts of games great is having lots of different interactions between components, providing a sort of quadratic growth of game complexity as you add components. If you haven't already, definitely consult some skilled Mario Maker level makers to find out what elements are needed to make great levels.
This is looking great and pretty easy to use! Btw, this may take a while to do, if you decide to do it, but, I've got an idea for how to make it look less Minecraft-like:
You know how Mario Maker changes the texture of a tile depending on the tiles around it? Well, you can do a similar thing, but change the model instead. That way you could smooth out the edges of the terrain, make clouds look more cloud-like, and much more!
I really wish that you'll countinue to update the hack with stuff like pipes that connect areas and NPCs you can assign either text or action (like Koopa the Quick)
would be awesome if could store levels and then play them in an order... this is amazing though
This is the future, and I am EXTRA hyped
A 3d Mario maker was what I always wanted.
Looks really cool. Would also be nice if it had a way to limit the camera/Mario's movement, then 2D/2.5D levels could be made. (and captain toad-style levels if you could disable jumping).
No grass on slopes? Don't worry, Mario maker 1 didn't even have slopes...
I'll fix it later 😠
I know this is somewhat unrealistic, but I would love to see a PC port version that can export an FBX file to be imported into Blender.
Great stuff as usual!
PC port would be nice because you have unlimited RAM, plus sm64ex-coop support would be great. However, this is built off of the sm64 beyond the cursed mirror engine so it might take awhile to port to PC. Plus it's a lot harder to distribute PC port hacks than patches.
This looks fantastic, it always amazes me what people with talent can do to games I love
and nintendo hates it
wow really neat! I think maybe could you make it so blocks can have certain attributes, for example you can mark certain blocks to not cause fall damage?
This is awesome! Will probably get alot more new people through the door to modding ultimately growing the community even further
the music made this video feel eerie and felt like showcase if it was made by Nintendo and the level felt like a fever dream giving me B3133 vibes
Holy this is such a good way to market your gsme, just a raw gameplay video.
Suggestions: add another angle of slopes, and being able to snap out of the grid for objects like coins on trees (or just adding a smaller grid)
The aesthetics and mechanics of this level editor do make me wonder about the feasibility of a Minecraft clone on the Nintendo 64... RAM and polygon count limitations would seem to be the most pressing concern for one†, though the use of dynamic compression/decompression techniques (such as Run-length encoding or even something like DEFLATE for worlds and combining several continuous block surfaces into single polygons with mip-map textures at distance) could alleviate those issues enough to make a decent one possible. Though still, either an uncontemporaneously-large save RAM/Flash size or a DD would be required to save a good-size world. (With 5:1 compression, a 1024×1024×256 map with 256 block types would take up 53 MB.)
†Considering that modern ultra-featured 1.20 Minecraft barely fills a full CD-ROM while not being subject to any size-optimization pressure, something equivalent to its Alpha or even 1.0 versions should certainly fit on a 64 MB cartridge.
Oh my god this is so good your so talented would love to see more updates and videos for this!
This is amazing!
dude this is amazing! you did a Fantastic Job making this! love it.
I'm wondering if the height limit and stuff will be increased. Because I would like to make a bowser themed level in the future.
This is a great idea for a mod i wish mario maker 2 was like this
the editor is broken plz fix
In all seriousness, this looks phenomenal Rovert. You’ve really come a long way these last few years, from competition submissions to entire massive level editors. You truly have proven yourself to be Bold and Brash. Keep it up, Funnyman.
Also, your hair is fucking fantastic and I love it you are a Handsome Dewd
If this is actually finished and released, I can finally make a Super Mario 64 hack where Peach's Castle is taken over by Bowser with the moat filled with lava like in New Super Mario Bros. U.
Neat stuff! I hope in future iterations of this you’ll be able to have even more terrain options
This is really cool! I wish Nintendo made something like this and added a Mario Sunshine style and a Mario Galaxy style.
Edit: I forgot to ask, but will this have textures and songs from the original Mario 64? I know the skyboxes and enemies are there, but nothing else looks like its from the original game.
That GPT "idea" is the most ambiguous way to describe any 3D mario game.
this is really cool and I'm excited for when it's done, however the tiles seem a bit big because at the wall kick section the wall was kinda high off the ground for you to jump to
This looks epic!
hey this game actually looks pretty fun and simple to build levels i could probably build a simple obstacle course with some goomba's, jumps, and at the end you get the star! i would download this!
I love this so much so far!! Looking forward to one day using it
Looks great! Also, I noticed there were rexes in this, what do they do? Are they entirely new or taken from the enemy patch? Also what do you wanna add later on that wasn’t in here? This looks really cool and I’m just sorta curious about it
Awesome! I hope this project keeps on evolving for a few solid years and becomes even better.
I’ve never heard someone so enthusiastically unenthusiastic with their level creation.
This is so cool! Awesome job :)
Looking awesome so far! one suggestion though, maybe a rounded/polygonal corner piece?
Love this! Great work
I remember when I was really young I discovered Toad's Tool and wanted to use it but didn't know how, this takes me back to that. I know I would have had a blast with something like this!
Plot twist: he remade the Robot 64 Level Maker and called the video "What if mario maker was on the N64?"
Looks awesome! Also, never thought i would hear Bonelab music in an sm64 vid lol.
love the bonelab/boneworks soundtrack in the background of the video, those games have some awesome music
Looks awesome!
Nice job!
I think you should add an option for charred/dead trees for the lava theme
Something that occurs to me looking at this is wondering how costly it would be to run marching cubes on the N64. It would probably make the terrain look a lot better, and allow for more detailed environments.
This is genuinely impressive for the Nintendo 64, if I'm gonna be honest!
Naaaah, Nintendo 64 is able to do way more ! Remember that a lot of game on the N64 had that kind of editor. Polygon Artist where you can make your own 3D object, F-Zero X Expansion Kit of course. All for 64DD of course, but they only use the disk for storage, they don't add power on the N64. Excite Bike had one too ! The N64 was really powerful and could do that kind of stuff easily. But it is INCREDIBLY impressive for a rom hack, made freely during the off time of one guy ! That's the true thing, the Mario 64 community and Rovert is just incredible !
This is a cool level editor!
This is really impressive! Good job mate!
Very cool concept !
This is so cool!!! Cant wait to see more!
great work! level is very nice too 👏
Looks great man!
sweet! rotating slopes could also be a great feature for real rounded corners and such.
maybe one thing the final release can have is more shapes, like a cylinder (maybe) you could also add smaller platforms that when selected, open up a different grid that allows for more precise building i guess
maybe a star select screen can exist too, if u ever plan to add multiple stars
Also maybe way too ambitious, maybe you can create a hub super world style
This looks really cool and easy to use, well done!
I do have some small criticisms though. I think rotating the camera up and down around the cursor would be useful, and when I watched the camera movement sometimes felt jarring, so a setting to turn down the speed would be appreciated.
However, these are minor problems, and it looks great overall.
This is actually so cool! Some ideas for improvement:
- Making the layers above the one you have selected transparent / wireframe would solve the visibility issue e.g. when you were placing the clouds below the grass.
- Granularity with objects (not the tiles), e.g. to a 3x3x3 grid within tiles could be nice, the coins look pretty awkward spaced out like that honestly.
- You could experiment with autotiling as well to make the levels look less blocky, see Super Mario 127.
personally, if i made something like this, i wouldnt have it grid based, so that people can place and arrange cubes in ways to make more natural looking levels instead of being all minecraftey
I was entertained the whole way through. Good video
This is absolutely amazing! Would be fun to see how this turns out on the ds version of sm64
Dude this kicks ass. How did you even manage to wrangle the SM64 engine like this?
The decomp certainly helps significantly.
@legoboy7107 Yeah, but the original game is held together by duct tape. It's just amazing stuff like this is even doable with how unstable it is.
@@RosieSapphire True.
Wow I completely forgot about this. Whoever made this rom hack is an absolute madlad
This looks so much more user friendly than the old sm64 level editor
This is the best Mario rom hack i ever seen !!!
can't wait for release date !
Damn it'd be really fun to see what people can make with this
Can't wait to see it
Right now the terrain of course looks very blocky, and it's still awesome, but if you want an idea for how to make smoother terrain, one thing that might be worth looking into is metaballs/marching cubes.
More in-depth explanation (assuming you understand metaballs/marching cubes):
You could add a special block type called "terrain" or something, and have it store some sort of "density" score. When constructing the terrain mesh, rather than filling out the entire block, you could use metaball-like math to add up the density for this block and neighboring blocks, and use marching cubes-like math to build a corresponding mesh based on the densities.
That way, if someone wants to make a smoother piece of terrain, they could place a bunch of "terrain" blocks and then sculpt them by changing their density.
This looks awesome. I don’t know what the limits are for the programming boy, I have crazy ideas already such a different game styles.
Great job! A very intuitive sm64 builder with elements from btcm.
Very useful especially for beginners approaching the new sm64 romhacking world, who can have fun and be creative.
damn, can't wait for this to be released
Cant wait for it to come out!
Man, this is AMAZING!!!
This is incredible!
what really nice be is if you can create a full course with this :D
Yo, rovert! This is incredible, nice job!
DUDE THAT IS SO COOL SM64 MARIO MAKER (also i love how he used Bonelab music)
Wow this amazing I’m definitely subbing also nice bonelab music
this is even better than the mario 64 maker that kaze emanuar made, great job!
The arrow looking like an inverted cross very much in theme in the lava hell world lmao
I actually really like this, mario 64 reimagined with a more "course-clear" level design is pretty interesting :D
looks really cool!
This is actually amazing
this looks rad!
Very cool. Thank you friend.
I love it! Will it be an official rom hack or Program?
A 3D Super Mario Maker.
I got an idea. Unless its too much you can make the different ground blocks connect like in mario maker 1 and 2 so it looks less minecraft-y
Now that you have a slope you should add a corner slope to smooth out things when the slopes make turns
That's actually sick! That's going to be Super Mario Maker 3!
This thing is awesome how long did it take you to make it ?
Halfway park music in the background goes crazy
I don't know if it is possible, but you could add some slabs, like in minecraft, to help with decoration and to make things look less blocky, just an Idea, amazing work man
the noises of the sped up controller tingle my brain
this looks amazing
As a fan of Marios 64, I LOVE the project ! I hope you will continue it ! Good job !
You can add clear conditions like you can fix the 100 coin star but u can keep it and make it a clear condition.
