3D Maker infringes on the 3DS version name (which 3DS screen isn’t even 3D but 2·5D) and it’d be better if the next maker had Yoshi’s Islands and Mario & Luigi besides 3D.

It’d be cool if the game allows us to make linear 3D levels, like 3D World, but you can still use the styles of 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, and Odyssey. And each different style would have different power ups and whatever, just like in normal Mario Maker

I really hope nitnendo does decide to make this, since for all the horrible levels that would be made there would still be so many great ones! Plus I'd absolutely love to make a Mario level in 3D with a user-friendly level editor, unlike game builder garage which wasn't too easy to work with

I think we'll see a third 2D Super Mario Maker before we see a 3D Super Mario Maker.
It's been a while since I've last played Mario Maker, and I've never played the sequel, but what the third game could do in terms of 3D is doing a Little Big Planet treatment. It's not true 3D, but you have extra "Layers" in the second dimension that you can hop back and forth onto. And Mario doesn't even need to be locked onto the layers, he could run around freely if the map creator allows Mario to do that, or maybe they could somehow do the Super Paper Mario thing where you go through a pipe and appear from a smaller pipe in the far background for the typical 2D styles.

LittleBigPlanet had a 3D editor in 2012 with the Karting game. While it is a racing game, the editor is so versatile, you can make 3D platformer using its engine

I've played a game called Worldbox that handles the idea of a 3D Level editor quite well, with the whole level being divided into chunks. That relied on touch controls, though, so I'm not sure how well that'll translate into controller input.
Mario 3D Maker with:
1 graphics style (3D World only).
Different camera styles: scripted (like 3D World), and 360 degrees (like Mario Odyssey).
Ability to explore levels or make them timed. Goals can be stars or flag poles, which would end the level (or ability to press START to exit the level despite goal being complete).
This seems doable.

Nintendo should make a 3D Mario Maker. That will be one of the best ideas Nintendo came up. There is a game called Mr Maker 3D level editor on the switch.
This would be so cool if they did this, the 3d marios are the best, so if they did it it would be awesome, I feel like it would be similar to forge on halo
I feel like you do not really understand the fundamental reason why everyone thinks Mario Maker 3D would never work, which is the ease of use. 2D Grid-based Mario Maker works well because its easy and intuitive to make levels. You can give it to literally anyone, your friends, family, etc. and they will understand how it works and start making levels very quickly. The same cannot be said for a 3D level editor however, have you ever tried to model something in Blender or make a map in Hammer? It is far harder to make anything 3D compared to 2D, especially something worth playing. Yes, the pros will be able to make competent levels, but the average person will find great difficulty in doing so. The core appeal of Mario Maker is more about the creation side of things, being able to make your own levels, rather than the number of levels you can play (although it certainly is still a substantial part of it). That's why 3D Mario Maker will likely never be made.

I think something that could be cool is if Nintendo released a 3D Mario Maker as DLC for SMM2. owners of the game, previous to the release, could access it for a discounted price (or as a free update!!!) while the game itself could be rereleased in stores with the update (or just the DLC itself released into stores). This could allow not only for a 3-D Mario maker, but another updated/2.5 version of 2D Mario maker.
The 3-D mode would be separate, having it’s 3D levels be non-transferable from the 2D styles like the 3D (in 2D) world style is. In addition, we could receive new 2D styles as well, like a full-fledged super Mario brothers two style and maybe super Mario land. (Yoshi’s island style would be a dream come true).
For the 3-D styles, I think they could use a camera system akin to that of super Mario 3-D world (the actual game, not the 2-D version of it in super Mario maker). The 3-D styles could be super Mario galaxy, super Mario sunshine and maybe super Mario odyssey. I was tempted to put 64 and the actual 3-D version of 3D world, but odyssey really is a more updated version of both of those styles.
In Mario maker 3 there can be another game style style under the 2D ones
Mario Maker 2 should have been a 3D level maker. It just feels like an enhanced port with a few things removed from the first one right now. There are plenty of 3D level editors from other games, so I don’t even think it would be all that difficult to implement.
If they do have a 3D Mario, it should be pointed out that you would only need one, or at the most, three different game “styles”. Where the 2D games in SMM marked a progression from 8 bit, to enhanced 8 bit, to 16 bit, and finally 64 bit, with big changes in graphics (objects, backgrounds and character designs) and sounds, all 3D games are 64 bit, and the exception of Mario 64's “polygon” graphics, have basically the same graphics (and even the sounds aren't as distinctive), and the main difference is objects (like the tropical scene in Sunshine the different scenes in Odyssey, trees in 3D World, etc.) and powerups.
So you can have one style with all the objects from different games that can be selected. If people must have the original Mario64 graphics, that could be another style, and if they're not able to get the worldlets of Galaxy to work with the other styles, so that might have to be a separate style.
I still think that Mario Maker 3 is more likely

Well now we have Super Mario Bros Wonder coming so that puts an end to concern number 1 (Mario Maker killing 2D Mario forever).
What this comes down to is whether Nintendo want to continue the Mario Maker series. If they do then they don't really have a choice but to go 3D. There is NO way to justify a 3rd entry and still being stuck in 2D. I do think a 3rd Mario Maker will have the same 2D options as before but they HAVE to offer a 3D option as well or it's a pointless endeavour. So really the question is how much do Nintendo care about this series? Is it big enough to justify the trouble of making a palatable-to-the-masses 3D editor?

There is that Game Builder Garage on Switch, that essentially works as a 3D-ish substitute for a 3D Mario Maker.

I think they gave the people the freedom to make 2d levels because they knew they wouldn’t make any 2d games anymore… so they said from let’s give them a 2d Mario maker game to end the timeline of the 2d line… And when 3D Mario games are finished they will do the same for us with the 3D maker. But until than I’am afraid it will not happen.

Mario Maker 2 is still pretty limited in terms of level parts and the world maker. Look at the sales of NSMBUD! People still want 2D Mario games!

It really is a shame that Maker 2 is an empty shell without switch online. The Wii U was absolutely terrible but at least I didn't need a subscription to enjoy Mario maker. I hope with the 3rd game they don't make you get online to download and post levels
@@leonard4410 I loved many things about it. The gamepad could play games with the tv off or connected to a different channel. But you couldn't go very far with it. it was far more powerful than the way but the controllers and gamepad died very quickly. I loves the mii verse so much. The interface was outstanding. it’s simply that the entire console is a double-edged sword.
