    Can't thankyou enough Dave for restoring this little family heirloom, it's now going to the 3rd generation & it's been so good to us. The old man who is now passed on would be so happy to see this. The end result is amazing! Thanks again Dave...

    Honestly, I would’ve feathered out the peeling clear, and if it needed a bit of primer to be even, I would’ve spot primed with primer I tinted red. Then I would’ve blended the color across those spots, and cleared the affected panels.
    This was a complete repaint.

    I appreciate the video mate.
    I just think, to 'fix' peeling clear coat, by giving the whole car a complete respray, is absolutely throwing money away unless you have the tools, the indoor paint booth, and the skills to do it yourself.
    To pay a bodyshop to do this, would cost 4 times the value of the car itself.

    • @DanielSan-ch7dr
      @DanielSan-ch7dr 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      But you could do this in your driveway at home on a calm day with a few mates youd have it sanded primed and ready for paint in 2 days. Ive gone in at 8am with blue car and drove home at 4pm with a silver car. Just me and a mate in his 2 car garge and a couple of cheap fans to suck out the fumes. Ive painted some of my best work in tbe driveway at night with a mate walkign behind me holding floodlights so i could see what i was painting 😂.

    • @DjNikGnashers
      @DjNikGnashers 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@DanielSan-ch7dr You could in theory, yes, to save money, like I originally said if you have the tools and the skills, except spraying outside is always a bit of a risk.
      Past experience says 90% of the time you end up with dust, flies, or even a crap paint drying process resulting in orange peel finish.
      Of course, on an old car that isn't worth much that might not be an issue, but it all depends on what sort of end result you wish to have.
      I worked in the motor trade for years, so I do know a little sir.

    Amazing video. I invented car park car washing in 1985, and washing a red Vauxhall Royale, I think you call a Holden Commodore Coupe. The bonnet paint, disappeared. The owner was very understanding! I was 13! Never…wash red, burgundy, purple and to be safe, blue cars on a hot day. The refractive index of water changes dramatically at high temperatures, and I say it’s water that causes lacquer peel, not rays

    I've got a 1989 Fiat Uno I bought for £250! as a cheap little car and 13 years later its still here. Me an this car have been through good times and bad, it's took me to work in all weathers even through snow, on nights out, road trips with friends, grocery shopping, it's moved furniture and even been around a race track.
    Everything I could ever ask of a car it's done it, it's recently got back on the road after a few years having had some major work to the body.
    But the Uno 100% deserved it, as its the best way I could say thanks to the little car that could.

    Hi mate if you have a red 90s car and the paint is good. Is it worth getting it ceramic coated or something?

      @@wazheamadman6086 yes for sure. That should offer good protection.

    I thought you were fixing the clearcoat. This looks like sand, prime paint, clearcoat. I actually thought you were going to light sand and clearcoat.

    Would single stage paint be easier to use for a novice painter?

      For solid colors, yes. For metallics, basecoat/clearcoat is more forgiving.

    Won't it be a problem for further, premature fading being single stage? It won't have clear to protect it?

    • @customspraymods
      @customspraymods  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@stevo184 hey not the single stage. It has UV protection mixed into it. As long as 3 coats are applied it will be good for a long time.

    After watching this I think I am going to repair the clear on my car by painting the whole thing with cold galv.

    Ok, so this is not how you fix peeling clear coat. This is how to repaint the car!
    I was expecting some quick fix on the spots where it was peeling.

    Can i ask you. Can you tell me what product i should use on clear head light lens cracks ? iv tried a few no luck yet. Cracks that need some filling, sand and polish and clear coat.. thanks

    • @customspraymods
      @customspraymods  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mreightytwenty8709 if the cracks are quite deep they may not be fixable as you will always see them.
      Otherwise try sanding below the cracks. Use a heavy grit if they are deep. Then step up till you get back to 1000g. Then spray a clear coat. I've used as low as 120g on headlights before.
