I learned more in the first 5 minutes than hours of others' videos. Thank you! Learning to paint, practicing on my off road Jeep. Next is painting my MX5.
Damn I found a best ever explanation how to sprAy a clear coat why painters do their work so nice ,sometimes seeing how they spray is not the best (for me) im more focus on the activity and try to copy but every coats are scary and result are by luck or fixing it by sanding .. Thank you this is a big help!!!
Bloody brilliant video. Now I know why my paint reacted. I blamed the product when it was due to me being too impatient and throwing on too much primer. Every day is a school day.
Used these tips with the airless spraying epoxy,.got in a lot closer and upped the speed. Results were amazing, smoothest finish i have ever achieved. It was actually a lot easier as well.
Sir, there are a zillion videos on spray painting - they're most of the time just confusing - your videos are the best, easiest to follow - thank you from the Philippines
Instead of buying the Tolcut blocks I cut some MDF into small blocks and then spray glue 1500 grit paper onto them. works for me as I am just an occasional spray painter. Great video covering some important basic points.
Thanks for making, yet another, fantastic video! I've been watching your videos for a few years and I've learned a lot. I'll be getting some paint touched up on my car at some time. It's "silver pearl". I won't be attempting that myself, but I still find it very interesting to know how the professionals paint it. My biggest worry is finding a reputable company with people who can paint pearlescent paints. The place I've been to before, only does insurance work, now. I know it'll be expensive too.
Love your videos, I've been a subscriber for several years now. I hope you can do a demo using the Porsche colour called Amethyst Black, or something similar, topped with a low pigment load of red to black pearl clear!!!
Just sprayed my 2x rear mirror housing and a fender (golf 5) and i wish i would saw this video before. The mirror housing is like glass, while the fender is orange peel. I did not understand what going on as i used the same settings i used for the gun 2 years ago. Yeah, i holded the gun too far from the fender, it was appr 15 cm, while at the mirror it was like 8 cm. I think, why the 15 cm worked last time, because the temperature was 18 celcius degree, instead of 30 degree and even the distance was big, the clear was not dried so fast... But this is my theory. I could fix the fender with wet Sand p2500 and polishing, but Yeah,i always learn from my mistakes and your videos! Big thanks.
Awesome Video! Great to the point info here. New to Body work and painting. What would be the best temp to spray a Willys jeep. South Texas temps are in the 90's with Humidity in the 70% range. Would it be best to wait until winter and heat an enclosed shop?
When talking about time spent sanding, does it reset after the primer? Or does the 400 grit have to be 20 mins for example, longer than the 240 before primer. Cheers, great vid
Hey I like to paint all the hard bits first, Fog lights and grill areas. Than go over the whole bar again. Also if you are getting dry spray, when you start walk to the back of the bar and paint the vents and holes from the back first. Then move to the front. Hope this helps.
Hi just about to apply two coats of 2k primer, already high filled the repairs and blocked back I’ve been told to sand back the primer with 240 and then 400 to get ready for top coat is that correct if so do should I guide coat each time for each grade

@@charlesloar3210 thanks. That temp is pretty good. I'd say for sure to for it in summer rather than winter. 👍

Hi Dave,
Have you got any tips on painting bumpers in tight areas? I tend to get dry spot or runs

@@philliptomlinson1275 You don't need too but it depends on the finish you are after and the prep work of the original panel.

Where u from
Dave - recommendation for a gun with a really wide fan. I sweat like a MF, so i wanna get in and out. Currently using Iwata AZ3 HTE series 2
your clear gun was farther than 2 inches away from the car
800? 😂
Solid colors 400 is fine
Metallic colors 600
I always use 800 too, never would use 400, 600 would be fine though.
@@HalfdeadRider 400 for solid colors works well
On a machine sander 600 for metallics is fine but hand sand 600 wet I'd be worried. If you get the results don't change.
