I still havent played this game to this day, but always remembered the name because my 7 year old brain went crazy trying to figure out why I couldnt move. I don't remember how I found out I needed a different controller, but I do remember being crushed 😂
Ape Escape 3 is one my favorite games of all time, so I’d absolutely love if they made some kind of Recaptured Trilogy. I really hope they include PipoSaru Racing in it as a bonus, though.
Man that was a blast to the past. I love ape escape, I remember last year picking the first game up to re add to my collection and it was so fun to go through the game again.
Two things were always so memorable to me from playing this game *(which I still have btw)* 1. Spector's PAL voice: I have no idea who did Spector's voice for the PAL/Australian/European version of this game, but he did such an incredible job of voicing Spector. I was so bummed when they replaced him and dumbed Spector down for the 'lols'. 2. Soundtrack, mainly the T-rex's theme. Along with the original Spyro the Dragon games and Kameo: Elements of Power's soundtracks, Ape Escape's soundtrack stood out a lot too. I think this game is up next for a remake :)
Dude, how do you forget the boss fight with the massive ship on the tower? I think the clown counts too, then there's the Go Karts Jake and the final specter battle. Also mini fights with robots, a badass looking silver knight and monkey mechs
I was born just a little too late to catch the Spyro and Crash Nostalgia, I played them a bit, sure, but most of my nostalgia falls upon Ape Escape, Sly Cooper, and Jak and Daxter. Ps2 Era games that i sadly don't see receiving a Crash/Spyro overhaul. Ape Escape 1 i'd say is an easy contender for a remaster, but including 2 and 3 would make a trilogy a hard sell, they still hold up pretty well graphically, 3 especially. I would love to see you talk about 2 and 3 in the future.
More people do need to play Klonoa. I remember this is the first game I played that NEEDED a twin stick controller. I remember renting it at the local video game store, and the person behind the counter was like "do you have a duel stick controller? you can't rent this without one"

I still need to finish the first two Ape Escape games, but Ape Escape 3 is one of my all-time favs. One of the last physical PS2 games I bought in a long ass time too.
I love Ape Escape! Besides it being a really great fun game I actually won my copy of Ape Escape and a Dual Shock controller from Toonami. Back when they were hyping up the game they ran a promotion that if you called a special phone number at the right time you would win. If I remember right it was either 100 or 1000 callers would win the game and controller, and like 1 or 5 would win a bigger prize set. I can't remember what the bigger prize was, but just winning the game and controller was enough for me. 😊 I'm sure there's a video on TH-cam showing the promotion.
Ahh I remember borrowing not only this game but my friends dual analog controller, not realising it would become the future of video game controls...a simpler time...also that Ape catch sound effect will forever be burned into my brain 👍🤘
I will hugely argue that most of the monkeys have different ways of approaching them that makes them super fun to catch without it getting super repetitive. So while it’s true it is repetitive, I think a lot of the charm comes from what the monkey does, how it reacts to you, and where it is in the stage that makes the repetitive nature of catching or collecting something more interesting and developed with its charm.
I also loved how if you crouch, the music will change its tone.
That little attention to detail for the OST is really appreciated.

I'm still surprised that Metal Gear and Ape Escape are in the same universe.
I'm surprised Snake could understand what the monkey was saying.
