As a Wizard101 player I can say that the game is still thriving. It still gets regular updates like new maps, overhauls to the older maps, new spells etc. We even got a test demo for the next update in december
Toontown Rewritten and Wizard101 are still super active and have great communities behind them. I still play both on and off. Wizard101 still has a ridiculously fast paywall but it's a legit MMO that still receives regular updates. Same with Toontown but completely free.
Wizard101 is so toxic and funny. Very, very active, and is still getting updates too! One time a bunch of people started circling around me saying "one of us, one of us." That was crazy.
While I don't doubt a lot of max levels are toxic, it's mainly PvP that I see toxic folk which is why I stay far away from it as humanly possible. But a lot of max levels aren't, I've had countless offer their help when my levels were low, and I myself try to be positive in the community because I remember when I didn't understand the game as much and had a max (110 at the time) help me and to this day I still remember him. It's been years later since I've seen him online and only now I realize his name, Richard Head, was meant to mean dickhead, very ironic considering his positive impact on me XD Also had a random max in team up give me a pep talk about college and the future, they're not all bad.
@@Beeberzzzin my experience in wizard coming back after playing so long ago everyone is very nice ive not met anyone that was mean or anything everyone has been evry helpful. Like you though i never went to pvp lol
Omg as a AVID W101 player, Justin Ravenheart who you were following had full waterworks gear. Which means he’s at least level 60 but considering the XP u get from doing that dungeon and the grind to get the gear he was probably closer to 70 at least. And you’re in Unicorn Way, offering to help with his quest. To someone who actually knows the game that is just…adorable 😂
"Kenopsia - a noun that describes the eerie feeling of a place that is usually busy but is now abandoned and quiet. It can evoke an emotional afterimage that makes the place seem hyper-empty, as if the people who were there are conspicuously absent. Some examples of places that might evoke kenopsia include: a school hallway in the evening, an unlit office on a weekend, and vacant fairgrounds." Used to get this feeling when we'd throw family get togethers and itd be full of loud talking, laughing, music ect. Eventually everybody else leaves and its just you left cleaning up. The silence is almost loud and makes your ears ring. Also seeing abandoned houses, i always wonder who lived there and who maybe loved that place once. Maybe raised kids who laughed and played and grew up there. But now a broken down, quiet and eerie place being overtaken by nature.
@xanyeeast we have a mall like that (well a few actually lol) around my area. It has MAYBE 2 stores still operating inside. It makes it even more depressing because i have a very distinct memory of the last time i remember being there when it was still busy. It was during Christmas, few friends, myself and the one friends sister who drove us over to it in a decent bit of snow to do Christmas shopping. Inside was so bustling full of people, warmth, life. All the lights, the stores, the decorations, all while it was snowing outside. Now 10 or so years later i go back and its a literal ghost town. No people aside from the random elderly walker, the stores all gone aside from maybe 2. Food court has no food places left, movie theater empty. You can see some stores are still sitting there where the last employees put thier stuff down, clocked out and closed the gates. Its eerie and sad but interesting at the same time! I used to always think about this stuff only recently discovering the term for it and that others feel it too!
As someome who grew up in the early 2000's theres something kinda sad about seeing these old, online games be totally dead. I remember Poptropica specifically being super popular in school, and any of those social, "minigame" type of online games in general being huge.
Dude poptropica was that puzzle brain teaser game you’d play. Its sad how down hill its gotten all of my childhood just not existing for the next generation.
Some of my friends played Poptropica, while others played... Franktown Rocks. No one has talked about Franktown Rocks yet, but I distinctively remember playing it and messing around with my mates.
I remember the first time I made friend in Toontown, he invited me to his estate and keep jumping towards his wall until I realized he was giving me the friends code so we can talk with each other instead of using the ingame phrase.
There was an old Disney game called Pixie Hollow Online that was shut down years ago; and, even though it had a similar chat system as in Webkinz (where you have to choose your dialogue from a list), it was easy for me to make friends because I kept attending and hosting a lot of parties. This video was so fun, funny and wholesome! I also learned a lot, and it helped me reflect on some of my own online gaming experiences from my childhood. Thank you!
oh my god, I was trying to remember the name of this game throughout the whole video😭 I was like “whats the name of that tinkerbell game” THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME 🙏🏼
Ya know I really needed this. It reminded me of a part of my life that I lost. That I miss. Now all I do is work 24/7 and just exist. I was a kid once I was a nerd lol
Jesus loves you. He can give you purpose and meaning in your life. Growing up this world is scary but when you have God who loves you and saves your soul, it takes you from existing to thriving.
Me and my cousin would argue so mf bad over the Toontown account. We had home phones back then too so every one of us called the other mad as hell, we immediately snitched to whatever parent answered the phone
Wow I just sounded so lame LOL but it’s true though. There’s a main community and then a community for buying and trading the pets. There’s also a thing where people like to compile the funniest names of the daily Arcade Leaderboard winners and those pets become minor celebrities because… funny.
Toontown Rewritten player here. During covid we had about 3-5k players or something like that. I think i saw 11k at peak observance. The developers that maintain this game actually made a wicked sequel you should do a video in called Toontown Corporate Clash. Lots of cool stuff in that one! 😊
My 26 year old girl friend still plays wizard 101 like she did when shes was a kid cause shes not a huge gamer and doesn't like to step out of what she knows as much as I've tried lol but from what I've seen she doesn't use discord or anything and has met close to 20 something friends on wizard 101 just through the text chat seems like a very welcoming and wholesome community that likes to help each other out. Quite cool to see a game from out childhood still going strong.
I just started playing again too it was a game as a kid i played. I play lots of other different kinds of game, every new shooter or rpg. But something about the simplicity and fun that w101 brings is so calming, especially after work. In a month i went thru the first two story arcs
Those games aren't active anymore.... Those private servers or someone creating a version exactly of the original only like one of those games are still around he mentioned wizards 101 ironically because that game I tried only because of the commercials an I didn't get past creating the account
@@uscrunch2006 , u would of been to old for these at the time like my brother. you were probably playing smash , pokémon gundam fighters . this was the little brother game lol
Great video! I’ve been making Toontown content since 2012, and it’s amazing how these games like Toontown and Wizard101 have withstood the test of time. There’s even quite an active community of streamers on Twitch too! I think this video goes to show just how much people look back towards nostalgic games-from retro to online games.
This was unnecessarily entertaining, lol! Reminds me of the time I tried logging back into The Sims Online a few years back on a private server to just......crickets. Broke my heart.
OH MY GOODNESS IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THAT TOONTOWN GAME FOR YEARS BUT I COULDNT NEVER RMB THE NAME OF THE GAME I LOVE THAT YOU POSTED THIS SM YOURE A LIFE SAVER 😭
as soon as i saw wiz on this list i was hype to see your reaction. w101 has a VIBRANT community with dedicated and active players. so much so that KingsIsle obviously still updates it.
I will say, Webkinz has a Reddit page that’s pretty bumpin’. I think a lot of the players there just play because the game is relaxing and cute and/or to relive their childhood memories (which the same goes for me). It’s not really a super social game like Club Penguin or Toon Town, and it never really was imo. Even as a kid, all I did on there was play arcade games, decorate my house, and take care of my Webkinz. The most social it ever got was that sometimes I’d watch my sister play and sometimes my mom would join in bc I think she found it cute LOL.
if you enjoyed toontown rewritten its worth checking out toontown corporate clash, while rewritten is more of a remake of the original, corporate clash is like a modern reimagining of the game, its got less then half the playerbase of rewritten but its super well polished and has even had 3 successful plushie campaigns on makeship
Pirates Online was packed with people back in the day. I started playing it in 2008 when i was a kid and it was my favorite game. I played it till the very day it shut down and still get on every blue moon. Lots of nostalgia from that game and was pretty much the first PC MMO i ever played. Will always have a special place in my heart.
That whole interaction in Club Penguin brought back repressed Animal Jam memories, oh my god. I remember becoming friends with someone after trading a couple times. Made the mistake of wanting to visit their hut. They had another friend who just wanted to NSFW roleplay, and the person I made friends with dropped their entire life story plus some gossip about real people they knew
AJ is still very alive at thriving! Especially Play Wild, they still update every month. There are Dragons, unicorns and Dinosaurs now, along with new map areas, day and night cycles, New characters, and so much more!
0:54 I THOUGHT SO! so many people who also played Poptropica like myself back in the day, would tell me that "Multiplayer never existed on that game" But behold, i was right!
Wizard101 is so good! Just follow the yellow arrow and the game easily guides you through the quests! The whole first act is legendary, they sometimes unlock the game on weekends and discount a monthly memebership, so worth the shot and community is nicer than what you saw!
i played pirates online when i was like 6-7 and i can confirm there was a bunch of people especially when invasions happened. seeing it on this video brought back so many memories aaaaaaa
Bro fr it was like the best MMO at the time.. it was insanely popular, the only game above it was WoW rightfully so. My favorite part was pvping the french/spanish and running around killing things with the staff and legendary swords
Toontown Rewritten player here!!! Been active on it since it was first released, the community is small but overwhelmingly positive & happy. there isn’t a single soul on that is capable of harming a fly (with the exception of a few weirdos), but my sister & i have been player toontown since 2009, and TTR since it came out, and TTR blows toontown out the water.
Seeing Wizard 101 so active fills me with absolute love and life. I had reactivated my account a couple years ago after having last used it in early 2011. I was certain it had been shut down or something ages ago due to inactivity so to see all my wizards still there was beautiful.
I liked that pirates game. I used to play it all the time in 2011-2012, and even used it for a school project back then. Fun times. Would love to play again.
Pirates of the Caribbean online was my all time favorite online game as a kid. I remember spending like $60 for the lifetime membership with my friend in elementary school which felt like a fortune to me. I felt so cool having the membership since I could level up more and get all the best weapons.
It was solid fr, i met a girl on that game and we started talking. Good times, i would like go killing monsters with her and if she got hurt, I would heal her.
poptropics and club penguin were literally my favorite childhood games. I was so young when i played them so i vaguely remember all the details but i do remember how much i played them and let me tell you it was some of the most fun i’ve had in my life.
This channel is going to boom! Many guys will say I'm saying that because of the views but no, this guys videos are too relaxing.. The quality, the editing, the bgms, the way he speaks.. EVERYTHING is just too peaceful!! We don't often see that in new channels or even most of the famous channels today. I just watched 15 seconds of this video, I liked it and I knew I will be binge-watching all his videos. I feel so much glad for small channels like these, when they get recognition they deserve. Congratulations and all the best for future Mr. Globert. 👏
Hey there, active wizard101 and TLOPO player here, wizard101 has public chat by default (without purchase, however what you can say is limited as it's a "censor" kinda thing) TLOPO is still kicking, and My guild, AshenWake was one of the few player run guilds that could host events publicly. Hope you enjoyed them! Also, I recommend trying out pirate101 if you want another MMO to play, but just like wizard101 you will need to buy areas later
4:50 Something worth mentioning about this is that when the game was shut down, there was still a LOT of life left in it. Most of the hype went over to TTR and while the game took a whole year after to come out, the crowds that showed up when it launched were crazy. It's died down a lot in the years since, which I'm sure makes it easier to maintain, but I'm glad it's still active enough that you were able to meet some people! I just wish there were a few really crowded districts like back in the day, it would've been fun to see you in one of those.
actually, TTR is picking up traction again because they added fresh new content that the original never had such as mini bosses, new collectibles, new missions, and finally they're going to make a new land that the mysterious cloud was hiding since the original. The land should be coming out early next year or in the summer
It's good to hear TTR's in a healthy state guys! I used to really like the game, though I never really finished it... I'm not that big on grinds, I just loved going on adventures and getting up to silly shenanigans!
I think that this is a really neat idea! If you ever wanted to make another video like this my best advice would to not be discouraged about people ignoring you. In MMO's it's fairly commonplace to adopt this behavior since you always see the chat being flooded, or have pesky players try and bug you. And since there are just so many people it's hard to know who is talking to who as well as caring to stop for every single person especially if you're excited about your next big quest or w/e you might not even be looking at other's messages.
Also TLOPO seems like a Ghost Town rn because the limited time yearly Event Hollowed Woods is going on till the end of November where you can get a lot of good Legendaries and other weapons and gear, some being the best weapons in the game, so almost everyone that is usually hanging around the islands are just busy in Hollowed Woods for trying to get said legendaries and weapons
I have never played any of these games but this is so wholesome, especially the party in Toontown and the guy you followed in Pirates online. Chatting with randoms who you will never meet again in an old game. I wonder if the number of nostalgic returning players in all these games will increase after this video is made?
Pirates online is basically niche. Club penguin has had a lot of issues. Toontown and W101 are the only ones that are huge with toontown reaching mainstream status lately. Give poptropica some time. It just shut down.
@@GyozaDevourerMaybe don’t do that. If you’re serious call the hotline at 988. Not like you’d have much to lose by calling first before making that decision.
I'm South American so I haven't heard of 90% of these games, but your voice is so soothing it even makes the subject of the video kind of nostalgic instead of sad. (Fun fact: Habbo isn't there, but it is 24 years old and still going)
I'm not gonna lie, your thumbnail choice was smart because that's the only reason I even clicked on this. Toontown defined and played a massive role in my childhood, the kinds of friends and people I met are what I'd call a "canon event" because I wouldn't change anything from that time if it meant it could cost what I have today. Toontown online and Rewritten were peak entertainment to me. And rewritten gave me something I used to wish for when I was a kid (I'd close my eyes and hope the subscription was magically lifted lol.) I loved the journey I had playing that game, while we progressed and grinded through this repetitive game, I grew up with a lot of these people, some I don't speak to anymore, some I've lost contact entirely. Some might of even passed away. I've met so many different people here, all just escaping, relaxing, or going through the same thing I was. It was a real town of toons. (hah.) I inevitably became toxic and burnt out from the game and quit. However that's when I realized I was nostalgic. I've since been on and off on the game and never leaves my mind. If you asked me 14 years ago what I thought about this game I would of said it was the best thing ever. If you asked me today, I would say it's a game I'll never forget.
It's like a window to our childhoods. Those times feel so long ago and its sad when you see these games have been shut down. "Don't be sad that its over, be happy that it happened"
Pirates of the Caribbean online is actually a pretty good game. Its mildly grindy as it IS an MMO, but it doesnt take the effort most games like that do. I grew up playing it a bit when i was a kid, and i played it few years ago on the same private server with my late wife. I was surprised to see how much she enjoyed it, despite the aging. I can actually highly recommend checking it out, even though there arent a lot of people online, the ones who are are usually pretty active, and you dont actually need alot of people to do most things. The few enemies that require a team to take down often have groups there, so you can easily find people to do stuff with. I played nearly all of these: good nostalgia video. Keep it up!
A core memory of mine was being a level 8 on there and winning 1300 gold in poker….it took half an hour and my mom made me get off immediately after (one hour screen time a day when I was 9) but man I never was more happy
I was once in a group like that (somehow) and either they are on discord as well, chatting; or they're talking in game through private messaging or a closed-off chat. Why? Because they want to talk. Could they talk anywhere else? Yeah probably. But they do it there for some reason. Not even using emotes in game to add to the social experience, they just.... go on a game to stand around for hours. It's kinda weird tbh, same thing happens in other mmo's like FF14. I'm guessing this is what mmorpg's of 2020+ are like. Everyone in their own "clicky" groups and refusing to socialise to anyone outside it. Only for that group to either fade or more commonly, they just go to another game and do the same thing. Also don't question them about it, they liked to gang up on ppl who points stuff out, even if its obvious. In a way they're like the anti-bot. Instead of being a robot that min-maxes, they are a human that does nothing.
Unfortunately yes. Some people actually get mad at others for having fun during events and waiting to meet mascots. Some dude was calling it “sad” that people were excited for a mascot last event… despite him doing nothing the entire time. Like my brother in Christ you’re in a game meant to be played.
@@WakoDoodle I dunno about any of these other games but I know with Animal Jam (now Animal Jam Classic) people tend to do this because the game has become overrun with hackers or bots trying to compromise accounts and take their stuff. So interacting with anyone is like taking a risk. Then again on said game people will actually socialize and try to do stuff like talk about the lore n whatnot, and as far as I'm aware none of these other games have the same botting/hacking issue so I'm not sure why it's so common on games like Club Penguin and Wizard101.
@WakoDoodle I feel like this is just common in general. I know when I used to play maplestory or Gaia online, the same thing happened so it's not just a 2020 thing. Maybe because of guilds and party quests, that naturally cliquey behavior occurs and they use the game as an excuse to just chat or wait for other members.

W101 players are toxic as hell at least all the max levels are
While I don't doubt a lot of max levels are toxic, it's mainly PvP that I see toxic folk which is why I stay far away from it as humanly possible.

Some examples of places that might evoke kenopsia include: a school hallway in the evening, an unlit office on a weekend, and vacant fairgrounds."
Used to get this feeling when we'd throw family get togethers and itd be full of loud talking, laughing, music ect.
That feeling in a dead mall/store or an empty highway at night 😪 its a heartbreaking feeling for some reason
Everything comes to an end, reality can avoid anything except the end, pretty depressing when you think about it but it is what it is
Scary and horror
I used to always think about this stuff only recently discovering the term for it and that others feel it too!
ohhh
Someone could definitely make a horror game out of these abandoned old games, they're already giving a creepy vibe with how deserted some are.
No Players Online did this concept, but it leaned waaaay too hard into a supernatural vibe for my taste.

As someome who grew up in the early 2000's theres something kinda sad about seeing these old, online games be totally dead.

Dude poptropica was that puzzle brain teaser game you’d play. Its sad how down hill its gotten all of my childhood just not existing for the next generation.
Do you ever play Habbo?
Thank you!

4:32 My man didn't even get to play Card Jitsu dude. :(
4:50 Something worth mentioning about this is that when the game was shut down, there was still a LOT of life left in it.
@@ali3ngazer871 That's exciting! I always wanted to know what was behind that cloud!
There was a TTR event at Momocon last year! They are still getting new players for sure
It's good to hear TTR's in a healthy state guys! I used to really like the game, though I never really finished it... I'm not that big on grinds, I just loved going on adventures and getting up to silly shenanigans!
Nutty River... the district that barely ever turned green
What made webkins fun as a kid, is you could interact with a plushir you had IRL
Nah it’s still fun!
I have never played any of these games but this is so wholesome, especially the party in Toontown and the guy you followed in Pirates online. Chatting with randoms who you will never meet again in an old game.

Pirates online was how I spent a good time of my childhood. It was REALLY popular. The island raids were legendary

I can actually highly recommend checking it out, even though there arent a lot of people online, the ones who are are usually pretty active, and you dont actually need alot of people to do most things.
