Dude, I remember holding a copy of Blood Will Tell at my local Electronic Boutique, trying to decide if I should buy it. The store owner pulled out a GamePro magazine with a review of the game that the author titled "Crap Will Tell", so I decided not to buy it. I never realized this game is a whole lot more than what the reviewer let on.
It bugs me more than it should that the journalist at least didn't go for something like 'Crud Will Tell' so it at least sounded the same
I recognize you! You've left comments on ChaserTech's videos as well, right?
@@jurtheorc8117 Yep!
Rude.
@@SetnaroX I knew it! Nice!
Wish you good luck and fun on future character action undertakings of your own!
Dude the best part about Blood will tell?
Plug in a Second Controller and hand it to a Friend.
Now Dororo isnt that useless anymore.
How so ?
@@crispyghoulco-op. Some Ps2 games had them. I remember a very limited San Andreas Co-op mode where the second player controlled your girlfriend. You couldn’t do any missions though.
Best little buddy mode in any game.
I remember as a small kid this game was too hard for and my cousin would try to beat it for me and I was dororo those were good times
@@ChadKakashi you played as NPCs and freeroam around the map
The remake anime and live action movie are pretty good.
The recent remake is what made me even aware of Dororo and it is absolutely top tier storytelling, especially how they really improve on hyakimarus character by showing just how stunted of a human being he is by being deprived of basic human senses. And seeing the side by side comparisons of how faithful it was to the original is just something else
i also think the anime remake is what caused this games price to shoot up a lot...
@@ghoulchan7525 buying physical copies is clown behavior when its easily emulated.
@@GribbleGob there's people who like physical things.

A year and a half ago a friend of mine was streaming this game on Twitch, trying to defeat all 48 fiends. At some point he was to confront the butterfly fiend in the bamboo forest, and he also allowed for the stream to have song recommendations to play during gameplay.
I suggested Smoking Roll for God Hand. He did not know what Smoking Roll sounded like.
My friend was taken aback and sounded like he was tearing up amidst pained laughing when such an awesome design was contrasted against such a goofy song.
Chance!

Honestly, Cvit’s love for this game has rubbed off on me; RED no longer being with us (in the form it had during the PS2 era) is a massive tragedy
Red was one of the greatest developers all throughout the 90s and into the early 2000s. Their SNES / TurboGrafx games are superb.
What happened to them?
I just looked up the titles they did, and I'm quite frankly shocked that I didn't pay attention to them as a studio until after this video and the comments, if ONLY because of Gate and Lords of Thunder from way back when.
music used in order, in case anyone needs it:
> Shisui of Violet Tides (The Open Box)
> Byakko's Theme (Amatsu Kaze)
> Doma Castle (Gates of Moon)
> Kugane Castle (Deception)
> Seiryu's Theme (From the Dragon's Wake)
all of them are from ffxiv stormblood
For a moment I was like "wait, was this game OST made by Soken? Sounds exactly like FFXIV"
I had to relisten to some of the parts because I couldn't believe my ears.
"I got my voice back! AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
eustace from courage the cowardly dog ah scream
Best line in the whole game
*tidus mode*
Holy shit, I knew Tezuka wrote Dororo, but I had no idea Hiroaki Samura did the art for the game. _Blade of the Immortal_ is fucking legendary, and his art style is instantly recognizable. Definitely have to add this to my collection next to my Dark Horse BOTI volumes with the rest of my PS2 games.
BOTI would be one of the best animes if only the manga has full anime adaptation.
Awesome review. I never even realized Dororo had a videogame adaptation, but it really fits well.
Oh, the things I’ll do for a Berserk game with Miyazaki as Artistic director and Itsuno as Gameplay director (a fully fledged game with cover everything up to the end of Fantasia)
That would literally be the perfect team.
I don’t think Miyazaki should make a berserk game tbh. He has the world design down, but guts canonically fights like a musou character, swinging his sword so fast you can’t even see the impacts. Seeing him move his weapon like a souls character would be really disappointing
@@harrylane4 Did you forget Sekiro exists?
That's where the itsuno part of the comment comes from@@harrylane4
That sounds sick, who are these Miyazaki and Itsuno though? Thanks for your time.
This game one thousand percent deserves a remaster, not a remake, a remaster for multiple reasons. One of which include the extremely high price it goes for. I did own a copy about 13 years ago, but had a break in and lost almost my whole collection of games.
I had a break in too. Terrible feeling to lose a collection. But God gave me a new one and I focused my collection on what I enjoy the most. Small and manageable (emulators are good for the soul)
@@PierFlies I've been getting into emulators. I still have a lot to learn about them though.
@@ChronicSensei Usually it's just a file you unzip, you run the program, you load in the game and you are good to go. PS2 sometimes requires a bios file but thats easy to get also and add to the folder. Duckstation is a great recent PS1 emulator, that's an easy one to start with, great user interface.
Not sure if it will. Why? Two words. RIGHTS ISSUES!
Then find the ROM and use them. You are well within' your rights as your games were stolen and you did not sell them, thus transferring your license and permission to back up.
If any game company says otherwise they are happy you were stolen from so they can then steal from you under a subscription model.
You always look at the coolest freaking games. It really highlights the PS2 as the most experimental and varied consle ever to be created.
Your work for bringing to light these forgotten gems is well appreciated, keep doing God's work
I was actually waiting for this game to pop up in your reviews! Probably one of the only games you're reviewing that i actually played, as this genre of gameplay just wasn't something my family ever got into growing up. I have very mixed feelings about this game, since at times actually playing through it felt like i was constantly dragging my legs through broken glass(the final boss especially), but everything else about it stuck with me for well over a decade. "Back to the darkness" and "Away with you!" are phrases i still regularly think about saying! For a genre i had no experience with and a story i had no idea of this game will always hold a special place in my heart, i sincerely hope this game gets a remake in the future. Blood will Tell deserves it.
This channel and overall concept of reviewing (every?) ps2 action game is so fricking good. The PS2 feels like the last mainline console that had these kind of experimental, 'out there' action games. Looking forward to Musashi Samurai Legend, Skellington May Cry, so many others.
Does Rise to Honor count as an action game @Cvit ? 90% of the combat is just hitting the right stick. Also you can play as a headless, roast duck with a code after you finish the game.
I own a copy of this game and it's to date one of my favorite action/adventure games. It feels like playing the anime/manga; befitting the classic AND the time it came out. Not to mention it's just timeless.
I haven't finished watching the video yet, i'm only about four minutes in, but i want to state that to me, this is the most enthousiastic you've sounded in a video of yours i've watched that I can remember. Which I mean in the sense of the sense of love for this game that the experience of playing it has left you with.
I still have this game and I loved it. The mechanics were so great and I never played a game similar to this one. I still remember it dearly and I bought it used just because of to the "Based on Osamu Tezuka's Dororo" line on the back.
Appreciate the use of the Storm blood soundtrack during the video :)
God, that music in the background SLAPS. Very good review! I'd love to pick this game up sometime.
If you're curious, they all seem to be from Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood.
God this takes me back. I never owned this myself but a friend of mine did and they lent it to me. This game was so rad despite some frustrations and I wish I had my own copy
Another great video of a niche PS2 gem. I also enjoyed your choice of using FFXIV: Stormblood OST, I couldn’t help singing along to “Amatzu Kaze”.
In 2014 this was one of THE PS2 gems recommended on TH-cam. I beat the game and enjoyed the progress and story.
The king has returned! Love love all these obscure action games
i never imagined that a dororo game existed. i love that anime so MUCH. thank you cvit
Always hyped to see your uploads.
This actually looks like a really cool game, i kinda want to try it now !
Thanks cvit for the discovery !
Idk who u are but thank u for sharing the footage of this game. My friends wouldn't believe me that there was a dororo game. So when I watched the anime I was shocked a few years back how different it is to the game. I love this game and I completed it without guides😭12 year old me was a different build. Again thank u for making me relive some nostalgia
That was one of the best Patreon shoutout lists I've ever heard also great video btw 😊
Sword of twin cloud is the same as the sword of 8 clouds. It just doubles your slice per hit. You didn't miss anything as long as you have the 8 clouds one
Hiroaki samura art is insane, the thumbnail really caught my eye
Top 3 manga artists of all time for real
@@hkn9723 I'd also put blade of the immortal amongst the great seinen such as vinland saga, berserk and vagabond.
@@gutsglory3625 Oh definitely. It deserves way more recognition than it has.
Man this game gives me such fun memories, I was lucky enough to get to stream it again a few years ago and the audience loved it since they had never heard of this game which was such a shame.
honestly dorororo is close to a hidden gem as you're ever going to get on a PS2 next to R.A.D anyway
One of my favorite games ever. Replayed it a bunch. Disc is still in great shape. Nothing like the first time you play through tho
I still have my copy of this game and it's in really good condition too! I absolutely loved this game when it was released.
Doro getting totally bodied by the boss LMAOOOOO 6:37 (Also nice touch in using Stormblood OSTs here, it matches the video a lot)
I first saw this video thinking it was a blade of the immortal game just on art alone, to only find out its for a manga I haven't finished yet, can't wait to finish this video later!
Another game i remember looking at during 2000s gamestop and drooling over it but not buy 😢 thank you for doing it justice
I like how much appreciation you show when you speak
Yessss finally someone cover my childhood game😢 thx
What a great story and awesome game, thanks for this video! Lucky to own a copy of this myself
ERM ACTUALLY
never played this one but I'm starting today. Great vid.
I remember learning about this game after watching the 60s Dororo anime. One of the saddest trips to ebay I took...
Out of all the PS2 action games you've covered, this one looks the most interesting out of all! Can't beleive they actually brought this one to the west
Gonna have to play this before I watch the video. I always had my eye on Blood Will Tell, but a physical copy is ridiculously expensive. Luckily I modded my PS2 last year, so nothing is really stopping me from playing it.
The audio effect at 5:10 is called the flanger effect, many rap songs do this for a cool effect to add emphasis on something and make it unique sounding.
I think I was able to land the 48 slash combo vs Behemoth fair and square, but holy shit, what a curveball to throw at you at the very end. The only other game I can think of that does something similar is Alter Echo (please tell me you're planning to review it eventually), which forces you to nail the longest time-freeze timing puzzle in the game to deal the final blow. Also, every once in a while the button prompt randomizer glitches out and just gives you multiples of the same button over and and over. If you get lucky with one of these jackpots on the Behemoth, even a 80+ hit combo wouldn't be out of the question lol.
Sweet psychically malleable alien matter, Alter Echo. Good name to throw out there. That one's definitely a game worth talking about in some depth.
Oni too. And perhaps Zeno Clash. And surprisingly, Kya: Dark Lineage. That one has surprisingly in-depth combat for a 3D platformer title.
Alter Echo had interesting ideas with the transformations, like hopping onto an enemy in the Stealth form and then swapping to Human or Gunner form, to lead into either a grab for the Human form or the enemy's head being stuck in the gun barrel for the Gunner form.
From what i remember, combat did feel good enough. But i kinda lost interest after the first fight with Paavo, if i remember correctly.
@@jurtheorc8117 ->Rock-paper-scissors-
>Sword-lizard-tyranid
Fucking love that game.
Acidic bioslime aesthetic, dope-ass trance soundtrack, and probably most expertly crafted difficulty curve I think I've ever seen in a game. The way it constantly mixes up the enemy waves to force you to juggle through the transformations and make use of every ability in your arsenal is just *chef's kiss.*
There was a point where I was getting worn down to my last sliver of health, not nearly enough to handle the next wave of enemies, until I suddenly remembered that the chameleon form has the cloak ability, which I completely neglected to use in combat up to this point, and which was just enough for me to do a mad dash across the arena undetected and pull off a stealth takedown at the last second. The whole game just clicked, man.
Alter echo...that's a name I haven't heard in awhile
@@NucleaRaptor Shoot man, that's a pretty vivid descriptor of your memories with the game. That is testament to the strong emotions tied to it, and is quite sweet to see for a game so little known. Cherish those memories well.
Perhaps I ought to replay it sometime and try to continue on. It's a tough one from what i remember.
Here's to hoping that Alter Echo may return some day. If not as a remaster or remake, then as inspiration for others. The "Acidic Bioslime" style as you call it can have potential for a lot of very cool stuff, as well as the in-game lore of there being essentially psychics perfectly attuned with plast as it was called, to basically create anything out of.
It's kind of like playing god with a world or material that was not meant for man.
Now you're making me remember Michael Bell as the planet itself, too. The planet was strangely adorable.
About dororo there is a really good animated series done not so long ago , it is a remake in that it doesnt cover all the parts but more streches it to like 10/15 parts and it is extremely good
I'm a huge fan of Dororo and Tezuka's work so I'm surprised I never played this, I vaguely remember hearing that there was PS2 adaptation of the manga but I shrug it off thinking that it was probably one of those cheap IP adaptations but now I know how wrong I was, I had to pause the video because you convinced me to play it, so I'm gonna do that and watch it after, thanks a lot for introducing me to it though!
Highly recommend the 2019 Dororo anime, too.
I just got through playing this game last week. I was blown away by how surprisingly good it was
The ambience of this game is superb. once someone I knew told me about this anime call blood will tell and I was like man I finish that game already.
one of my favorite ps2 games! btw, the last boss's rush flight is easier with the arm swords. I love this game so much I grinded to level up the swords to lvl99... wasn't worth it lol
Wow, for its time. This game seems pretty cool. Looks like there are a lot of different types of attacks, ranged moves and spells too. Moves look pretty cool too.
"Party is over~"
I remember having this game and just spamming that spin to win technique didn't really paid attention to the story now looking back at it I'm actually really impressed. Its as amazing as MGS1 4th wall breaks.
i loved dororo
was not aware of a game for it
thanks for enlightening me
3:40 Damn, Amatsu Kaze actually fit with this. Especially during the time when JP dev love to put some funky song on the opening like Onimusha 2....
oooh thats the song name. thanks.
Blood will tell and Ico were my favorite PS2 games. I was surprised that no one knew about Blood will tell. Glad its finally getting recognition!😊
Great choice with the Stormblood music
Awesome video. JnD or Primes, now these are options where you win either way!
For years all I had was a memory of watching my dad play the first level of this game, then I found it and was able to watch the whole thing on TH-cam. A pretty cool game, wish I got to play it.
A very impressive video essay. 👍🏽👌🏽
YES
FUCKING YES FINALLY
Man so many memories with this game and its jank, was hoping someone would give it a solid half hour rundown one day ☺️
I remember playing this on Matrix mod PS2 arcade around 2015.
I wish I knew about this game years ago when it came out back in 2004. I would've enjoyed this game a lot. Makes me want to go back and play my PS2 now.
So cool how weapons and qte works in this game
Blood Will Tell is so fucking dope. For a long time my only memory of this was "oh that's the body part pinocchio game where he goes AAAA early on", but there's so much cool stuff in here even if you aren't familiar with the source material.
I love this game, the stages do get a bit too lengthy for my taste but I am glad that there's a number of useful mechanics that help make mistakes hurt less bad, like the multi hit sword (I am even worse at the stylish finisher, never managed to get more than like 8 hits in and eventually stopped using it all together) and multiple lives you can refill rather easily by revisiting the first stage over and over between chapters.
Maaaaaaaaan I completely forgot about this game! But I remember playing it when I was young. WOW blast from the past
I play that game 2005 and never finished it 100%.I can, no matter how hard I try make 48 cuts on the last boss but I have good memories on that game
I'm one of those guys who actually found it in a bargain bin shortly after release still have mine and it's my favorite ps2 game and I doubt I'm ever going to sell my copy still in perfect condition😂. Also the slashes all have paterns there are about 4 or 5 combination that start over at 25 slashes once you memorize them it's easy to get into a rythem
Omg I wish I still had my copy. Found it for 10 bucks back in 07. Absolutely love this game, my #1 PS2 game. This 100% felt like I was playing through an Anime. So many PS2 games had that feel before the copy and paste arena fighter era took over
I heared 48 boss fight gauntlet and immediately knew i had to get in on this.
Loved this game as a kid but I remember never being able to best the final boss
You haven't try out the best stealth game of the PS2 era: Shinobido: Way of the Ninja
More like Tenchu
Because I might be from your génération (late 80's) I do understand and can feel perfectly what you mean by all of this and I also agree 💯
Ps2 was our golden era as kid. We had time to experience the évolution of this kinda game almost from 0.
And it was such a fantastic aventure, wasnt it ?
+1 sub mate, keep going🔥 Games are a part of our childhood and even influenced our personalities for some of us 🫡
oh I remember this game from my childhood, great game. I remember getting all body parts 🤣 Im proud that I did beat it when I was a youngster, watching you play tells me that the game is no joke. I was shocked when I started watching dororo I was telling my brother and friends that I played a game that I loved with the same concept not knowing it was legendary manga
i love the ffxiv ost you used Peak as always!
This game is superb and amazing. It's criminal I never got to finish it.
This was an awesome video, thank you for the time and effort you put into this! Please please tell me what is that instrumental that starts at 6:03 !! It’s so good !
Such a great game i remember when this game came out the combat was pretty good too
Wow, good thing there are others who enjoy playing such games and making videos about them because I surely would've given up on ever finishing them.
12:30 I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who was completely stuck on this secret
This game really looks peak but I'm not up for selling organs... yet. Also good job on releasing another banger oomfy
Damn looking back at the video quality from the ps2 from present day, man its really different.
I never had a ps2 as a child, but as a teenager, a guy exchanged it for my Super Nintendo, and Dororo was, along with Shadow of the Colossus, one of the games that most impacted me. When I heard an anime was being made, I could not hold my excitement over it. Thankfully, both experiences were very enjoyable - and the anime has a banger of an opening.
Wow, the sword arms reminded me of the South American warrior Galvarino!
Seeing the price. I'm glad I still have my copy 😁
I love the story and character progression of this manga.
That final QTE looks like nightmare fuel. My condolences.
It is, unless you find a secret sword that makes every hit in the finisher qte count as two.
I had the option of buying a loose disc for this game for $5 a few years ago at a flea market, and now knowing it is really expensive, I'm disappointed I didn't get it.
I mean, even without the modern value, I feel like buying any game for $5 or less is almost instinctual, especially if it looks well-made.

@@brysonharrison5698 Just stodgy internet connection, but thank you for bringing my attention to the issue.
Played this game back in the day and I really enjoyed it despite it's flaws.... I also tried the Undub one and Hyakki was voice by Sugita Tomokazu{Sakata Gintoki) and Dororo by Otani Ikue(Pikachu/Chopper) which was cool.
I was a fan of both Dororo and Blade of the Immortal at the time this game came out, so it was an instant buy. I really enjoy the game, but I wish the "I can save the game here" voice clip would have ended after the first level.
Never seen this game before but it looks nostalgic and amazing
I watched Dororo and it was
AWESOME. I had no idea there was a game.
Thumbnail looked like blade of the immortal.
Also berserk was fun on ps2. I also loved ace 1, 2 and 3.
the fun thing about black and white screen thing. there is some PS2 game that did have the Black and white problem depend on which TV you was used to play the game. the one that i encountered was Worm Ultimate Mayhem where the modern TV doesn't have color but when i connected the console to a old vintage TV the color show up.
i had no clue dororo had a game, this looks dope, the anime is awsome
Oddly enough, sometime last week i saw someone talking about Dororo, and it wasn't until i went to do some reading about this that i connected the two. >>
Awesome game love the 2019 anime too Dororo
