I think I was able to land the 48 slash combo vs Behemoth fair and square, but holy shit, what a curveball to throw at you at the very end. The only other game I can think of that does something similar is Alter Echo (please tell me you're planning to review it eventually), which forces you to nail the longest time-freeze timing puzzle in the game to deal the final blow. Also, every once in a while the button prompt randomizer glitches out and just gives you multiples of the same button over and and over. If you get lucky with one of these jackpots on the Behemoth, even a 80+ hit combo wouldn't be out of the question lol.
Sweet psychically malleable alien matter, Alter Echo. Good name to throw out there. That one's definitely a game worth talking about in some depth. Oni too. And perhaps Zeno Clash. And surprisingly, Kya: Dark Lineage. That one has surprisingly in-depth combat for a 3D platformer title. Alter Echo had interesting ideas with the transformations, like hopping onto an enemy in the Stealth form and then swapping to Human or Gunner form, to lead into either a grab for the Human form or the enemy's head being stuck in the gun barrel for the Gunner form. From what i remember, combat did feel good enough. But i kinda lost interest after the first fight with Paavo, if i remember correctly.
@@jurtheorc8117 ->Rock-paper-scissors- >Sword-lizard-tyranid Fucking love that game. Acidic bioslime aesthetic, dope-ass trance soundtrack, and probably most expertly crafted difficulty curve I think I've ever seen in a game. The way it constantly mixes up the enemy waves to force you to juggle through the transformations and make use of every ability in your arsenal is just *chef's kiss.* There was a point where I was getting worn down to my last sliver of health, not nearly enough to handle the next wave of enemies, until I suddenly remembered that the chameleon form has the cloak ability, which I completely neglected to use in combat up to this point, and which was just enough for me to do a mad dash across the arena undetected and pull off a stealth takedown at the last second. The whole game just clicked, man.
@@NucleaRaptor Shoot man, that's a pretty vivid descriptor of your memories with the game. That is testament to the strong emotions tied to it, and is quite sweet to see for a game so little known. Cherish those memories well. Perhaps I ought to replay it sometime and try to continue on. It's a tough one from what i remember. Here's to hoping that Alter Echo may return some day. If not as a remaster or remake, then as inspiration for others. The "Acidic Bioslime" style as you call it can have potential for a lot of very cool stuff, as well as the in-game lore of there being essentially psychics perfectly attuned with plast as it was called, to basically create anything out of. It's kind of like playing god with a world or material that was not meant for man. Now you're making me remember Michael Bell as the planet itself, too. The planet was strangely adorable.
For years all I had was a memory of watching my dad play the first level of this game, then I found it and was able to watch the whole thing on TH-cam. A pretty cool game, wish I got to play it.
I think FromSoft could make a Dororo game like this. Sekiro is practically Hyakkimaru already in style and themes (the parallels are striking), now they just need to add a constant AI companion that could be controlled by another player for Co-op play.
I remember playing this game when I was a kid. It was a part of my dad's game collection. I loved it so much, although the game disc ended up scratched after a while and it'd freeze up halfway through. Thank god for emulators.
Because I might be from your génération (late 80's) I do understand and can feel perfectly what you mean by all of this and I also agree 💯 Ps2 was our golden era as kid. We had time to experience the évolution of this kinda game almost from 0. And it was such a fantastic aventure, wasnt it ? +1 sub mate, keep going🔥 Games are a part of our childhood and even influenced our personalities for some of us 🫡
I wish I knew about this game years ago when it came out back in 2004. I would've enjoyed this game a lot. Makes me want to go back and play my PS2 now.
I played this during my college days. The very first thing that drew me to the game was the name: "Osamu Tezuka", which I knew was the creator of Astro Boy. Honestly just wanted to find the monsters and get all the body parts back for that sweet stat bonuses. I totally lost count until you pointed out how many I went through to reach the final boss. (Not to mention made me remember the trauma of having to do that very, very long input command during the final boss fight.)
I'm a huge fan of Dororo and Tezuka's work so I'm surprised I never played this, I vaguely remember hearing that there was PS2 adaptation of the manga but I shrug it off thinking that it was probably one of those cheap IP adaptations but now I know how wrong I was, I had to pause the video because you convinced me to play it, so I'm gonna do that and watch it after, thanks a lot for introducing me to it though!
Blood Will Tell is so fucking dope. For a long time my only memory of this was "oh that's the body part pinocchio game where he goes AAAA early on", but there's so much cool stuff in here even if you aren't familiar with the source material.
I love the gungrave series for it's old ps2 aesthetic and jank but satisfying gameplay so it is fantastic to see that they kept making that style of game... and now this one is on my radar even with it's incredible price...
About dororo there is a really good animated series done not so long ago , it is a remake in that it doesnt cover all the parts but more streches it to like 10/15 parts and it is extremely good
There's a live-action movie called Dororo that heavily burrows elements from the series with some changes. Dororo is a grown adult by the time she meets Hyakumaru. Hyakumaru's father is actually ruthless and slew a buddhist monk who tried to stop him to make a deal with the demons after losing a major battle for power. The movie does not end after slaying all 48 demons but after finally retrieving his heart from a certain someone. The end shows Hyakumaru and Dororo walking off into the distance ready to take on the rest of the demons. I should mention that the movie does explain how Hyakumaru got his prosthetic limbs, and it's not what you think. They're all made from limbs of dead people, including children, as casualties of the ongoing war in Fuedal Japan. Overall, the movie, Dororo, is still good and worth watching.
I'm one of those guys who actually found it in a bargain bin shortly after release still have mine and it's my favorite ps2 game and I doubt I'm ever going to sell my copy still in perfect condition😂. Also the slashes all have paterns there are about 4 or 5 combination that start over at 25 slashes once you memorize them it's easy to get into a rythem
one of my favorite ps2 games! btw, the last boss's rush flight is easier with the arm swords. I love this game so much I grinded to level up the swords to lvl99... wasn't worth it lol
Omg I wish I still had my copy. Found it for 10 bucks back in 07. Absolutely love this game, my #1 PS2 game. This 100% felt like I was playing through an Anime. So many PS2 games had that feel before the copy and paste arena fighter era took over
This game was actually my first exposure to Dororo. So when the series got an anime remake some years ago, what I thought was, "isn't this similar to that PS2 game where the protagonist was a samurai with blades attached to his arms and cannon as his knee?" I didn't even remember the game's name at that point lol
Fun fact: in the stage where you meet the nine-tails for the first time, spawn portals will appear throughout the stage, spawning infinite enemies. Go to one, then switch to dororo. When dororo kills an enemy, there's a small chance of it dropping a heart (hearts increase dororo's max hp). Keep killing the enemies until you get enough hearts to max out dororo's max hp. Be careful though, as dororo could get one-shot from an enemy during this process. If you accidently destroy the portal, find another.
think the price hike is due to the newer anime that came out just a few years ago that drew attention to the series. Show was bloody fantastic, and the only reason how I found out about this game
I never had a ps2 as a child, but as a teenager, a guy exchanged it for my Super Nintendo, and Dororo was, along with Shadow of the Colossus, one of the games that most impacted me. When I heard an anime was being made, I could not hold my excitement over it. Thankfully, both experiences were very enjoyable - and the anime has a banger of an opening.
I remember having this game and just spamming that spin to win technique didn't really paid attention to the story now looking back at it I'm actually really impressed. Its as amazing as MGS1 4th wall breaks.

Acidic bioslime aesthetic, dope-ass trance soundtrack, and probably most expertly crafted difficulty curve I think I've ever seen in a game. The way it constantly mixes up the enemy waves to force you to juggle through the transformations and make use of every ability in your arsenal is just *chef's kiss.*
There was a point where I was getting worn down to my last sliver of health, not nearly enough to handle the next wave of enemies, until I suddenly remembered that the chameleon form has the cloak ability, which I completely neglected to use in combat up to this point, and which was just enough for me to do a mad dash across the arena undetected and pull off a stealth takedown at the last second. The whole game just clicked, man.
Alter echo...that's a name I haven't heard in awhile
Sekiro is practically Hyakkimaru already in style and themes (the parallels are striking), now they just need to add a constant AI companion that could be controlled by another player for Co-op play.
i thought the earthquake got you bro
Shout out to Tezuka Osamu that man’s work still has impact.
I remember playing this game when I was a kid. It was a part of my dad's game collection. I loved it so much, although the game disc ended up scratched after a while and it'd freeze up halfway through.
Thank god for emulators.
Because I might be from your génération (late 80's) I do understand and can feel perfectly what you mean by all of this and I also agree 💯
Ps2 was our golden era as kid. We had time to experience the évolution of this kinda game almost from 0.
And it was such a fantastic aventure, wasnt it ?
+1 sub mate, keep going🔥 Games are a part of our childhood and even influenced our personalities for some of us 🫡
For some unknown reason, I believed I have played this game before. Eitherway, fun video man, gives nostalgia for ps2
Damn looking back at the video quality from the ps2 from present day, man its really different.
I wish I knew about this game years ago when it came out back in 2004. I would've enjoyed this game a lot. Makes me want to go back and play my PS2 now.
Loved this game as a kid but I remember never being able to best the final boss
I remember playing this on Matrix mod PS2 arcade around 2015.
Blood will tell and Ico were my favorite PS2 games. I was surprised that no one knew about Blood will tell. Glad its finally getting recognition!😊
This game really looks peak but I'm not up for selling organs... yet. Also good job on releasing another banger oomfy
That was one of the best Patreon shoutout lists I've ever heard also great video btw 😊
About dororo there is a really good animated series done not so long ago , it is a remake in that it doesnt cover all the parts but more streches it to like 10/15 parts and it is extremely good
12:30 I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who was completely stuck on this secret
Wow, good thing there are others who enjoy playing such games and making videos about them because I surely would've given up on ever finishing them.
Saw the thumbnail and instantly recognized it was the illustration style of blade of the immortal.
I just got through playing this game last week. I was blown away by how surprisingly good it was
Damn. I got really excited that this was a Blade of the Immortal game when I saw the thumbnail. Blade of the Immortal is awsome.
This game looks so unbelievably sick. I thought it was going to be a blade of the immortal adaptation but this is even more interesting.
Maaaaan that Hiroaki Samura cover is insanely good
one of my favorite ps2 games! btw, the last boss's rush flight is easier with the arm swords. I love this game so much I grinded to level up the swords to lvl99... wasn't worth it lol
Highly recommend the 2019 Dororo anime, too.
So when the series got an anime remake some years ago, what I thought was, "isn't this similar to that PS2 game where the protagonist was a samurai with blades attached to his arms and cannon as his knee?"
I didn't even remember the game's name at that point lol
Didnt this get an anime adaptation not that long ago
It’s called Dororo, it’s an awesome anime, so underrated.
Always hyped to see your uploads.
The ambience of this game is superb. once someone I knew told me about this anime call blood will tell and I was like man I finish that game already.
What a great story and awesome game, thanks for this video! Lucky to own a copy of this myself
I actually owned this game at one point back in the early 2000s, bought it at EB Games when I worked at the local mall.
ERM ACTUALLY
never played this one but I'm starting today. Great vid.
One of the greatest PS2 games of all time. Truly a hidden gem
I remember having this game and just spamming that spin to win technique didn't really paid attention to the story now looking back at it I'm actually really impressed. Its as amazing as MGS1 4th wall breaks.
Blade of immortal on thumbnail is a dope ass manga
Wow, the sword arms reminded me of the South American warrior Galvarino!
This game is superb and amazing. It's criminal I never got to finish it.
Wow. Did you upscale this? The quality of this game looks phenomenal for ps2
