There's actually one important feature that you left out, though I don't blame you, as for some reason they buried it in the menus and made it hard to find...
The "Simian Cinema" in the hub area doesn't just let you *watch* ape movies, it lets you *MAKE* ape movies! You can choose actors, sets, props, move the camera, write your own lines, and save your creations to a memory card to share with friends! It's not much compared to what you can do with things like gmod or other modern software, but for 2006 it's a pretty nifty addition to an already content-packed game.

I made tons of movies back in the day. They seemed to have disappeared, though.

never played 2 or 3, but 1 is genuinely one of the most fun and innovative platformers I've played. ever. And that's my favorite genre, so I've played near thousands. Sure, it's just my opinion, but I really think the series is worth a try.

This is easily my favorite one in the trilogy, the simplicity of the gadgets is back and the transformations are all fun to use. While they all share similar controls their gimmicks are all varied enough that you can maximize each one in certain situations.

Depending on who you choose it changes some cutscene dialogue, animations, and transformations... so it's better than choosing a gender in a Pokemon game...
yep, though yumi is still the superior choice because of the random monkey fans, her costumes looking cuter in my opinion, the uniqueness of having a female protag in this series and in my opinion a much stronger personality than Kei

Ape Escape 1 and 3 are pretty sick. Some of the best games I've ever played on the PS1 and PS2.
Ape Escape 2 is fantastic as well albeit not as inspired as the other two.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 idk. I really liked the locations in Ape Escape 2. While overall not being that original with things like gadgets, characters and story; it made up for it with really fun locations. Maybe it's just my nostalgia talking, but yeah. haha. (also, AE2 had a great soundtrack too. Even if it wasn't made by Terada. Maybe not AS good, but still really solid)

I probably should have worded my thoughts better. I do prefer the locations in 1 and 3, but 2 has a lot of genuinely fun and fantastic locations as well, and the gameplay has seen some notable improvements. Maybe I'm being slightly unfair on 2. I still think it's a fantastic game. It's just that there's something about it that although clicked with me very well, was only almost at the same level.
I'll probably have to replay the games since it's been nearly two years since I played them. My opinion is flawed as usual.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862Eh, my opinions are probably heavily weighted by nostalgia. I grew up with all three, but 2 hits my nostalgia the most. (even though I think 3 is better) I think a lot of locations in 2 are way cozier and I still really enjoy just relaxing in some of them. 3 has the most imaginative and I really enjoyed them because of that. I think the first game had some amazing highlights, but I got to be fully honest and say that comparatively, I think it's pretty weak in that front. Since levels came in groups of three, they weren't always that unique from each other. While they often succeded, I still mix up parts of the levels. I really like that future games worked to make every single level fully unique from each other. Like I said, I love the locations in 1 as well, but i'm a sucker for variety so that's mostly why. (also Ape Escape 2 had by far the best(or at least most creative) enemies. I wish the other games had enemies that fun)

Finally, a TH-camr big enough covers this game, I hope this makes a lot of you want to play this absolute masterpiece. The soundtrack is AMAZING, Soichi Terada's best work, and the gameplay is super fun.

Oh my God, this games STILL looks amazing even by today's standards! The animations look fluid and the characters move like that they have weight to them - I'm a sucker for visuals like that! I missed out on never playing this game years ago. lol

Man I remember this being one of my favorite games growing up. The transformations are awesome, the music is great and the world design is absolutely fantastic. And that Metal Gear Minigame was was my first introduction to that entire franchise.
I really hope this series comes back in some fashion since we've been getting all these awesome platformer re-releases lately.
Man, Ape Escape 3 is my first Ape Escape and childhood game, ahh good time. This game really makes me interested in the franchise, I remember really liking the gameplay, transformation and gadgets, and mini games.

I feel like a way to balance out the characters would mean giving Kei a less likely chance to get their gadget stolen when he is attacked. Actually giving his energetic yet fit (favorite subjects were gym and lunch) character. As letting Yumi keep the charm effect.

I used to play this when I was little. I love this!
I spent a good few months just on the cinema mode where you make your own scenes... there was such a high level of detail in what you could do.

I have so much nostalgia for Ape escape 3. It was one of the first games I ever played, and still one of my favourites to this day.
I remember being psyched about the 3rd one when it came out, though it's apperent the team were running short on ideas. Despite that, I remember enjoying it and honestly I'd be down for a remake. Maybe they could throw some sci-fi into it and give the monkeys new abilities through some science mishap. Imagine have to chase vampire monkeys in the skies of transylvania? Or diving in the ocean for sea creature hybrids? Climbing up mountains in a snow storm to capture a giant yeti monkey that's terrorizing a village nearby with blizzard powers? An active volcano with monkeys they can breath fire and steam?
On top of capturing them, you have to figure out how to stop them and take them down!
This needs to happen!

I'm surprised you didn't mention the game's builtin movie maker. It's got a shocking amount of depth to it and you can even use the monkeys from Mesal Gear Solid as actors. Kojima himself even made his own films that can be watched ingame, it's delightful.
Also Monkey Yellow continues to be best monkey. Steve Blum absolutely kills it here. They also got Deby Derryberry to voice Monkey Pink so you get the added bonus of Jimmy Neutron in your funny monke game.

I love the Ape Escape serie and I really hope we'll get an Ape Escape 4 or at least a remake or remaster of the other games. Oddly, I only learned the existence of Ape Escape 2 and 3 in 2006 when I saw the third game in the bargain bin of a store, I had no idea at the time they had made other games!

I grew up playing the first game but I never knew they were sequels until looking it up. And I'm goanna be honest I wish I grew up playing Ape Escape 3 too. It looks like such a fun and wholesome game. Not to mention I would've enjoyed playing as Yumi as I love playing as girly characters in games. Hopefully if the Ape Escape trilogy gets a remake I'd definitely play the hell out of it! Especially 3!
I noticed that you skipped a big feature. You didn't talk about the way that you could make your own little shorts with the monkeys like the shorts that were already in the game. It was a neat feature that my brother and I would always mess around with and just be silly with.
