2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD - Replacing HVAC Blend Door Actuators

  • In this video we fix 2 of the HVAC blend door actuators in the Duramax. When I hit a bump the AC on the drivers side will start blowing hot air - also the HVAC will stop blowing air into the cabin. So to resolve these 2 issues - we replace the lower actuator on the passenger side - and the actuator on the drivers side.
    Parts/Tools Used:
    Blend Door Actuators: amzn.to/2z9XEqt
    Milwaukee Battery/Charger - amzn.to/2GEcS8d
    Milwaukee Fuel Ratchet - amzn.to/2IGdMab

    Thanks for the help brother. Randomly my a/c starts blowing hot air on my driver's side when a/c is running. Going to replace the driver's side actuator as soon as I get the time. Appreciate the video because I like doing this stuff myself and not get gouged by a mechanic.

      Hey John H did replacing the drivers side actuator fix your issue. I have the same issue. I have to hit the ac controls in a certain order otherwise it does that Everytime and shutting the truck off don’t always work, I’ve drove a couple hrs with heat blowing out one side and ac on the other in 100deg weather….that sucked

    • @johnh1781
      @johnh1781 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haven't gotten around to it yet. I hear you about the heat though I live in FL and it sucks when it randomly happens. Shutting truck off and back on works but can happen next time I start up truck just as easily. Hey do you hear a clicking or grinding noise under your dash randomly also?

    Would you know which actuator needs to be replaced for the drivers side blowing hot air? I really can only replace the one that is the problem right now.

      Another video of this process explains that the passenger side actuator on the floor is responsible for controlling the heat/AC to the driver side vents. The drivers side actuator on the floor is responsible for directing the air from vents to floor/defrost/vents. There are two more actuators up under the dashboard for controlling heat/air to the passenger side and another actuator on the firewall for controlling fresh air or recirculating air.

    Thanks-
    I just put one on my passenger side this morning-
    And when I started it up, I noticed absolute zero change.
    Didn’t know it also had one up on the drivers side.
    Mine was blowing cold on driver’s side, when heat was working fine on passenger side.
    I believe the one on passenger is good,
    My problem just be the driver side.

    • @bonecrrusherSS
      @bonecrrusherSS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My first problems where - hot on driver - cold on pass when the AC was on. Replacing the actuator behind the center console fixed that issue.
      Second problem was the door being in the wrong position - ac/heat going out the wrong vents - to fix that - that was the actuator on the drivers side up behind the steering wheel.

    I’m getting a random but constant tapping noise under my passenger side. 05 sierra w dual zone w/o auto climate control.
    It sounds like it’s centered in the passengers dash and straight down from the base of the windshield.
    Any knowledge on that would be very much appreciated.
    Seems like everything works ok but it’s pretty unpleasant and I imagine it could cause real problems soon

    • @bonecrrusherSS
      @bonecrrusherSS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the door actuators is messed up - could be the one at the top by the windshield - or the one on the bottom behind the radio.

    I’m hoping someone can help. My truck is a 2007 classic body 2500HD DURA-LBZ and my temperature isn’t regulating properly. Heater only comes on if I set it to 90°. I have the same climate controls as in this video. All vents and switching between them work properly. I can only have ice cold air (when set at 60°-89° on display) or hot air (when set at 90° on display). What is likely the issue? My dash unit? Or is the thermostat a separate part? Thanks in advance. This is the best video I’ve found so far for these types of issues. Great job!

    • @bonecrrusherSS
      @bonecrrusherSS  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds like the climate control itself is messed up.
      One of the issues I had - was the heat was coming in on one side - and AC on the other. That ended up being one of the blend doors.
      Your issues sounds very temp specific - and not a door issue.

    Question, I am having issues with my hvac. I am not having issues with the actuators but I am experiencing not very hot heat or very cold ac. Is there a hvac diverter that will allow cold air to blow and not heat, or vice versa.

    • @bonecrrusherSS
      @bonecrrusherSS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That door does have an actuator that can fail - usually its the one behind the radio. 1 side blows warm - 1 blows cold.

  • @shamansshaman1823
    @shamansshaman1823 ปีที่แล้ว

    I appreciate your video but would have liked to see how much trouble you had getting the top screw out on the drivers side and how you got the new actuator and blend wheel back in under the white control mechanism and the top screw back in. I had a heck of a time getting it out and haven't gotten the new one yet. How did you get the top screw back in?

    • @bonecrrusherSS
      @bonecrrusherSS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unless you have the dash completely out of the truck there is no way to film it.
      Either used a short screw driver - or a screw driver bit and a 1/4" ratchet.

    Hi
    Are the parts from Amazon still working? Quite a few reviews have them failing within weeks of doing all the replacement work. Just curious. I have replaced once already and need to do again, trying to find a quality replacement part that will keep working. Did you try to clean/inspect the original from the truck?

    • @bonecrrusherSS
      @bonecrrusherSS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One is still working - and one failed. The one controlling the various positions failed - and I replaced that with the GM one. See my update video here - th-cam.com/video/iV7B0D9R8CA/w-d-xo.html

    hi, I have the same truck (07 classic 2500) with the same controls, any mode I select, all 4 vents blow air, but defrost and floor stop and turn on how they are suppose to. which actualor do I need

    • @bonecrrusherSS
      @bonecrrusherSS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That might be the actuator door under the dashboard up above the gas pedal on the drivers side. You move that one - that will move the doors between the various vents.

    Very helpful video! I'm in a bit of a pickle. I'm trying to fix my old mans '01 silverado 1500. The ac/cold air only works on the defroster setting. If i turn it to vent with temperature set to cold the air is HOT.. same with the feet the air is HOT when it should be cold.. the air is hot on every setting except the defrost setting. I know the blend door is not stuck because i pulled the actuator and was able to turn the little knob manually by hand. I ordered a new blend door actuator for the passenger side near center console in hopes that its my problem! I'm just not sure if it is because I am able to get cold air/AC to come out of the defroster while every other setting blows nothing but hot air.

    • @bonecrrusherSS
      @bonecrrusherSS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll be honest - it's been awhile since I worked on this project. Hot air coming out of the wrong vent - I am 99% sure thats the blend door behind the center console - fix it from the pass side.

    Not sure of the purpose of the video when you say "not sure if you guys can see this", several times then the next scene is showing the units installed. If youre doing a video about an installation and you say not sure if you guys can see this, that should be a red flag to all viewer. Is the video about you, which we saw a lot of in the first part of the video, or is it about replacing the HVAC blend door actuator? I say it is about the former. Oh yeah, you didn't mention the fan behind you in the first part of the video.

    My system works great except for occasionally the air stops blowing from the vents. I can change to different zones but nothing. Do I need to perform a reset of the ac controls or does this sound like a actuator issue? I have the digital ac control on my 2006 Sierra 2500HD.

    • @bonecrrusherSS
      @bonecrrusherSS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My truck did that for a few years - I would have to turn the truck off for the vents to reset.
