- This video was created with the idea or helping fellow TH-camrs on fixing this actuator's most common problem. A lot of older GMC and Chevy trucks have this same actuator failure due to a cracked plastic gear. This plastic gear does not have the electric connectors that exist in other models, facilitating the repair by simply rotating the gear. This failure is noticed when climate control fails to respond to the hot and cold selector. The air coming out of the vents is either stuck in hot or cold. I hope this video helps the DIY out there as well as some other videos have helped me with my projects.
thanks milions times, you helped me even after 4 years of posting this video
Thank you SO MUCH!!!!!!! Your video was EXTREMELY helpful for my 2002 Chevrolet (S10) Blazer LS !!!
I have a much better understanding of the working actuator, Thank You!
Thank you so very much. This fix worked perfectly for my 97 Silverado. I opened up the unit and saw mine exactly the same as what you had pictured. Again, THANK YOU!!!
This video was especially helpful in aligning the blue gear, and relative main gear positions, prior to final assembly. Reusing the cracked main gear would be, a 'maybe in a pinch' situation. Otherwise, I'd replace the unit with OEM.
The gear is cracked on all units by design, it's just a matter of will the teeth of the blue gear get caught in it or not
For the price of one I'll just buy a new actuator. thanks for the video
Great! Thank you!!!
Would pulling the ecm or computer give you room to get to the top screw, after disconnecting the battery?
While it will be recalibrated, it will go back around to the crack, once you found the position that it won't touch the crack, put glue in it. Yo make sure it won't rotate back to where crack is! But i went to local pull and save and just took the actuators from another car and swapped it with the non broken one.
Good reveal of the actuator. Thanks
Well- I tried this and the big ring gear would skip the inner splines (due to the crack) in the center under load. May work for some but not for me.
I glued the big gear to the inner splines, which worked perfectly.
Super glue it
Great information, sir Thank you very much.
This will save you $50 but not sure how long it will last.
THANK YOU SOOOO MUUCH❤❤❤
