i have a Bmw M240i convertible, the previous owner had the pcv issue last year, bmw replaced the whole valve cover to fix it under warranty, he said it had white smoke blowing through the exhaust and drivetrain malfunction
Just wanted to add that Audi has done this same thing too awhile back. It’s actually an emissions issue with the EPA, so I wouldn’t say it’s BMW being kind. But it does benefit a lot of people so I’m happy
this is BMW specific due to the failures. they have to cover it due to EPA regulations but it's not something that all manufacturers are required to do because everyone's emissions systems are different.
So I replaced my PCV at 80k and have catch can where the tube usually is, after a few hundred miles the can is still dry which is odd but no more PCV smoking and squealing
Hey i have a 2018 540.. think i just started having pcv issues . Im tuned and i also have a aftermarket axleback & catless dp. Should i bother trying the dealer ? If not can somebody drop a link to the part ?
Hi Kern, I enabled misfire on cylinder X from mgflasher logs and I noticed some misfire, but the misfire counter still at 0. It's correct? Sometimes I got a feeling the car is misfiring. I've already got a problem to cylinder 3 so my mechanic change the ignition coil, because i had a flauctulating rpms during accelerations. 120i B48 stage1 250hp manual transmission.
I think the PCV system is considered an emission control system, and there was some California law that requires those systems to be warrantied for a long time. So that may have also been a factor.
Hi Kern, My 2016 340i w/100k mi (BM3 Stage 2+) started smoking under acceleration a couple days ago. The color is bluish. The issue has remain ever since. I took it to BMW and they said that the turbo needs to be replaced. Spoke to the tech and their diagnosis went as far as a test drive. I already checked the PCV (after replacing it once already) and it was intact. Any thoughts?
I have been trying to call their reimbursement office for over a week about this with questions I have about follow on damage occurred and it just goes straight to voice-mail. No return call yet..
Hey has ur oil filter housing started leaking coolant or failed ? Mines fail this weekend. Around 76k miles gen 1 I see it happen a lot on the b48 as well
Any chance we can get a video on the VTT billet valve cover? I can't find any info on it or even photos of other cars with it other than on Vargas's own website.
I can confirm that my dealer would not change the PCV kit unless there is a confirmed problem. I keep this letter in my file so if there is a problem in the future I will have it.
@@wingedhussar5528 shit. I got a diff shop to do my oil change. Since I haven’t brought it to bmw I only got it 2 weeks ago but since I didn’t bring it there I won’t get the paper sent to me so I can’t get the pcv dealt with for free when it causes a problem? I need that paper in order to have the work done?
Seems like this only applies to the US (or BMW of North America). Anyone outside of that zone heard of this? Would have been good to reflect in the video….
The "Repair Kit Pressure Control Valve B58" is being sold in Australian stealerships for AUD$510.26 - what a joke. The kit does not display on realoem for my VIN (Australian delivered M140i)
Yeah I’m an Aussie M140i owner as well. I wonder if this will eventually come to Australian dealers? I actually bought 3x replacement caps for my mates and I fron Ross Racing anticipating that mine will fail soon.
My dealer would do nothing unless I pay $190 diagnostic fee. Then. IF it's defective they will fix it. Disappointing. I'm just going to change it myself as a preventative measure.
I think people have this misconception that everyone's B58s are tuned. These engines are in everything from M140is to X7s. An average consumer would much rather just bring their car in and get if fixed.
@@kern417 yeah i figured. Also Pcv replacement is also an U.S thing no Bmw dealer here sells them. Most likely because the b58 gen1’s arent that common here.

I would have had no idea about the issue in the first place if I didn’t see this video. Thank you for keeping us informed
My brother you have stumbled upon a vast wealth of B58-related resources with this channel. Enjoy
Had a feeling this would happen eventually; got my letter 7d ago. If only I could get them to pay for my catchcan/pcvdelete
It's great to hear that bmw is addressing things like this. Even after so long. Thanks for the video! Always great info and topics

As with the brittle tube that connects to the intake, I’m buying one just to keep on hand. Thanks for this!
My pcv went yesterday, today I had to have my vehicle towed to the dealership. In South Africa will BMW replaced it? because it failed.
Is this USA only?
Don't get any notification in Germany...
for now it appears only in the north american market. hopefully ROW gets updates soon too
Now for the 2020 m340i oil pump issues. Let’s hope they send a letter for that
bro i got mine replaced with like a week left on my warranty, i was stressing lmaooo

Hey man, do you know why Idling causes this issue?
Got my letter. Thanks for clearing this up 👍🏽

got mine in the mail last week, i just replaced my pcv diaphragm 2 months ago lol
luckily you can send them the details and they *should* pay you back for the repair costs
got my letter yesterday
About toyota supra with b58 its covered as well
Cool now they need to do this for the oil pump for the 2020 model year.
or even better just do a recall and replace them all
whats the oil pump issue on the 2020?
Some of them fail. The plastic inside can break or they can prevent reading the oil level properly

I got the letter too. mine was replaced by the previous owner. so I will probably be good for awhile.
Just got 3k back because of this!! 💪🏽
So what if my car is tuned. Can I still get the warranty?
they may not cover it after being tuned. it's up to the dealership's discrepancy at that point.
Has anyone had this service done at a dealer? And if so, did they lock your unlocked DME.

i have not had any luck watching for misfires. just run a log and scan for codes if you're having issues.

That's already in place for the cat, evap, etc. This is separate

definitely could be turbo if it's burning oil and smoking
You ever figure this

Same… I even left a voicemail and haven’t heard back
Big up Kern! I suppose this would pertain to the wife's 19 X3 M40i as well. I should probably order a new diaphragm or go with an OCC 🤔

Is B58TU completely fine from this issue?
generally yes.
It this for Canada or only america?
It says BMWNA so I would assume that it includes Canada and Mexico, but i haven't seen anyone in those countries confirm receipt of the letter
My car actually got imported from Canada and i bought it a year ago. I also received this letter and im in the US so i believe its for Canada as well

i haven't heard of it on B48 platforms and their valve cover is different
