Been doing a lot of research lately I'm getting tired. Thinking of pulling the trigger on the MHD stage1 for my 2019 G30 540i. Hopefully it's the right choice. First time tuning for me.
I have tested BM3 MHD and MG flasher on my RWD 2018 M240i the OTS maps that better suited my car were the ones from MG. I live in a high altitude area(2600m/8500ft above sea level) the 100-200 kmph dragy test using MHD and BM3 stage 2 98ron map didn’t improve the time at all compared to the stock time (12.5s) while using MG flasher stage 2 98 Ron improved it by 2 secs (10.5s). What I could see from the logs is that MHD and BM3 always requested a fixed target boost pressure across all the power curve, which at this altitude exhausted the turbo pretty quick around 3500rpm, while MG flasher has a variable boost pressure target across all the power curve, so it really adapts to the ambient conditions, and varies the target boost psi. At a lower altitude (250m) MG flasher performed really well too, increasing the target boost psi and handling it dynamically across the power curve, resulting in 100-200 8.7s using pump gas. So in a nutshell I really think the OTS maps from MG work better in different ambient pressures. Last but not least, excellent video Kevin, very insightful… you’re really the man when it comes to B58 stuff.

Hello mate I must say this is a fantastic video very informative, I have a 420i I was looking to flash bootmod but I don't know will that cause any problem to the engine as I really do not want that lol .
I started with MHD on my 2020 G20 because I was drawn in by MHD+ and the ReFlex support listed on their website. I was pretty bummed when I activated my super license to find out that I only had access to basic flashing features, so I ended up jumping to bm3 not too long after that, but again I was misled by what is advertised, and I guess my software version is too new and CustomROM isn’t supported yet. I felt like my car was much smoother and happier overall on MHD’s Stage 2 E40 tune as compared to bm3’s Stage 2 E30 tune. On bm3, I encounter this weird oscillation when cruising with any burble setting that’s more aggressive than OEM, and for a while I would experience a weird limp mode-esque power cut when cruising in higher gears and I would roll into the throttle to pass someone or when I would shift at high RPMs under WOT. I’ve been working with bm3 support and we’ve gotten the cruising limp taken care of, but I’m starting to lose patience because now they’re just starting to take the “Oh we’ve never seen these issues before” stance when I’m sending logs showing what their tune and software is doing, rather than going in depth and coming up with a fix for the other issues that I’m still facing. I really want to go back to MHD, especially since now I know CustomROM doesn’t work on my car, but I may also end up going to EcuTek just so I can have more than just basic features, namely flex fuel.

Am I able to easily go back to the stock map for the purpose of passing the emissions test with these? Or should I stick to JB4 if I want to be able to do that?
A question on ethanol free gas which I believe is preferable for many reasons. Have a N55 engine, totally stock, 20K miles. Although with ethanol free the octane level is rated as a few points lower, because it does not have ethanol, that may be erroneous. Correct me if I'm wrong, but based on current pricing, MHD seems to be more expensive than the Bootmod3, not less? The base flash license itself is only $422, but that comes with no maps and no logging software. Add $165 for maps, brings it within $10 of Bootmode3. Which is still slightly cheaper, but you also don't get any of the logging capability, which is another $165...which now makes it more than $150 more than Bootmod3? Alternatively, Bootmod3 sells their license, with one map and logging software included for $595. And if you want a plethora of additional licenses, its only an additional $50. That certainly seems like better value for the money for me? And again...keeping in mind, that Bootmod3 has resale value....MHD, does not.
@@kern417 The "93+" probably refers to areas with 93/94 available fuels with ethanol in it versus no ethanol. I have 94 (e10) available in my area so I'd use that.
It's just funny because I even see people with 94 octane getting timing corrections on the 93 tune. You always hear about people having bad gas quality but I haven't heard of anybody having "high quality 93"
Are there any options where I can make my own tune? I used to have a Subaru and there was open source software I used and flashed my car from my laptop.

I just got a 2018 540i xdrive im tuning it this weekend with mhd youll only have to worry at above 800hp range
And all you have to do is change rods and pistons from stock
Thanks for sharing.
Awesome vid, thanks
I have a 2020 m340i rwd which one should I go with? future mods are the usual dp intake charge pipe on 91 gas? My ECU is unlocked. New to the bmw game HELP? LOL
BM3 FTW! Also, fastest flashing is wrongfully described. I have all the apps and BM3 by far is best in all these categories. For flashing, of course if you don’t download the map first it takes the time to download it. But if you did its the same if not faster lol
definitely faster on mhd and mg flasher
Brilliant as always!
thank you! this helped a lot
I'm leaning towards MHD, people say bm3 is a bit more aggressive though 🤔
At the end it just depends on the driver, mhd ots got me 60-130 of 8.2
Nah jts the otherwise around. Mhd is more aggressive
What do you think is the best for a stage 1 tune on 91 octane gas in cali that will give me max add hp and torque?
If you dont mind me asking why you swtiched to MHD from bm3?

Hi all, I have a 2017 540i, all stock. I would like to gain some horsepower. Nothing crazy, just a few more horses. Any experience with this is greatly appreciated
Hey Kern, what would be the best in terms of drivability on a stage one flash? I dont want to make my M340i drive worse. Thank 🙂
They're all pretty comparable. I currently use mhd and it works great.
What about RK-Tunes??
The other day I put my automatic m2 g87 in manual mode without realizing it, I went out accelerating at full speed, thinking that I would change in the red zone but no, I reached the injection cut-off, is the car prepared for that situation?
I have a 2023 M340i. Wondering your thoughts on JB4 while waiting for a flash tune unlock to become a available.
It works but I'm not a fan of piggybacks
Do they have any maps for 92? My closest couple gas stations have 92 for premium
no, just 91 and 93. you can run 92 octane fuel on a 91 octane tune
Great video Thxs
Ecutek is king 👑
I ended up going with BM3 since I am in CA and the ability to lock the dme for smog could be a big deal
You don't need to lock the DME, just run any OEM tune.
@@sakuraFC3S you've had luck with that with the latest CA laws? They are checking for past tunes and DME tampering, even if stock. I am hopeful all I will need is having the stock tune, but being flagged would absolutely suck
@@ebigford34 just flash back to oem MG flasher has it and it flashes back to OEM but never take your car to the dealer for work they will lock your DME
@@ebigford34 Im in CA and my single turbo PI no cats 2012 335is passed smog. Get better connections or just flash back OEM tune if a flash tune is all you have.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, Tried using MHD for my S58 and it's horrible, very choppy, waiting for a new one that they are prob going to be coming out with...
Hey there, Kern. Would you be able to recommend some good settings or some good way to reduce wheel spin in 1st and 2nd gear with MHD? I have an m2 competition and it is already spinning as stock. But I’ve purchased mhd license and didn’t want to tweak too much with it. Planning on running gts map at most.. nothing too fancy
You'll have to play with the boost by gear settings. A better option is to upgrade your tires for more grip.
Does bm3 have different maps you can change on the fly ,1,2,3 through the tack
I have a 23 m240i with a high flow catted dp. I am looking at BM3 OTS for the car after the FEMTO unlock is done. I would be silly if I wasn’t nervous about pulling the trigger. What problems have you come across with BM3 OTS tunes? I don’t plan on using an E mix very often but will always fill with 93 here in Florida.
the only issue i had was once the flash failed due to poor connection. but if you flash in offline mode then it works great.
Very helpful 😎
Would the MHD work for my 330e?
great video!
If doing a future one, it would be good to see jb4 included.
Does any of these support diesel? I have a 2010 E90 335D
Am I able to easily go back to the stock map for the purpose of passing the emissions test with these? Or should I stick to JB4 if I want to be able to do that?
Yes
A question on ethanol free gas which I believe is preferable for many reasons. Have a N55 engine, totally stock, 20K miles. Although with ethanol free the octane level is rated as a few points lower, because it does not have ethanol, that may be erroneous. I am only interested in a stage one tune, and wondering if ethanol free is suitable? Realize its a conundrum... Brilliant vid and very useful!
Run whatever the tune is designed for.
you should make a “should you buy a 440i/ ….. video”
So i have a 2019 440i not the m but the basic sport package on it stock i want to mod it i live in cali so 91 gas i the best for my area i herd getting a flash tune , catless down pipe & a high pressure fuel pump is all i need & if i want a cold air intake what do you guys recommend pls help. & should i go with bm3 or ?
Will bootmod3 come out with full reflex integration? Even if you buy the bm3 flex fuel kit plus the full motiv reflex+ would PI on BM3 still be as safe?
I would be shocked
I believe they are working on it but I don't know when it would actually happen
Had BM3 on my Gen 1, moved to Ecutek and never looked back
This guys lying
Are any of them particularly better when paired with xHP relative to the other company?
nope, completely separate products.
Can custom tunes be modyfied by the flexfuel sensor? Or is that only for ots pump gas maps (thinking mhd)
You can make custom flex fuel maps yes. That's what I'm doing on my setup
@@kern417 oh wow thats def where its at. Does the stock map come with mhd automatically or do you need the pack of maps to get that? Because otherwise I'm almost thinking it would be better to skip all the ots maps and go straight to custom ones. but obviously being in cali I need stock map for SMOG
The map pack includes all the maps. If you are getting custom tuned then you don't need the map pack

Thoughts on DINAN + PERFORMANCE ENGINE SOFTWARE - BMW B58 (M0) ENGINE, im confused if this is applicable to the b58m30a engine bc of the (M0)
More expensive with less gains/options than the other tunes
Does anyone know which platform has the most aggressive crackles and pops?
ecutek?
I was thinking about Eurocharged do you know anything about them?
Yeah they do custom tunes
Hey this is a great video! Can you guys please help me here
Context:
1. it's my daily driver 2017 BMW440i drive (b58) - not planning to take it to the track or Race ;)
2. Planning to get Stage 2 with a Active Autowerke or CG precission DS1 Catted downpipe
3. Not planning to use Flexfuel/port injection
4. In my area I use 91 V power Nitro from Shell
Question:
1. Which tune should be a good fit for my car? BM3 or MHD?
2. for cold air intake - Eventuri or MSS would be a good fit for my car?
I appreciate all the help guys. Thanks!
Tawhid
Hey any updates to your decision? I’m in the same situation.
Mg flasher
Do both mhd and bm3 work with xhp? I thought i heard mhd works better with xhp
Transmission tunes are completely separate from engine tunes. You can even flash xhp on a completely stock car.
On MHD there's a tick box if you have xHP installed.
@@ScottPC all it does is disable torque intervention. Same on bm3
The super license is $550 and comes with everything
@@kern417 My mistake....I had the currency on MHD's site to CAD and not USD. Now the price points make more sense lol
@@alfrede.neuman8611 no worries. I still do think they raised the prices at some point
Great video!! With BM3 wtf is the difference between 2+ 93 and 2.0 93+?
93+ is "high quality 93"
Who knew that existed 😂 but I've seen some people use it with good results
@@kern417 The "93+" probably refers to areas with 93/94 available fuels with ethanol in it versus no ethanol. I have 94 (e10) available in my area so I'd use that.
It's just funny because I even see people with 94 octane getting timing corrections on the 93 tune. You always hear about people having bad gas quality but I haven't heard of anybody having "high quality 93"
Mhd for me, ran my stage 2 buddy on bm3 and while I was on Mhd stage 1 I still beat him
i guarantee you there's a bm3 guy that will have the same (opposite) story
True because I know 2 guys who have 440 and the one with MHD is faster
Do they both do m2 overrun
Are there any options where I can make my own tune? I used to have a Subaru and there was open source software I used and flashed my car from my laptop.
They all support flashing custom tunes
what’s the site to upload codes from mhd flasher to easier read diagnostics
