      Honda's turbo engines dilute oil like crazy and toyota's been up to their necks in recalls lately. Standards all around are plummeting, even among brands known for their "reliability". Comparatively the b58 doesn't sound all that bad given what you're getting for the cost

    I think a lot of these issues today are being engineered in by design cost, like plastic covers, water pumps etc, we know they have a much shorter shelf life and can’t hold up to a decade of extreme heat cycles and subsequent gasket leaks. The best engineered cars are behind us today, it’s a great shame.

    Some failures are due to poor/infrequent servicing. Oil deterioration is a common thread. Sticking to annual or 12k mile BMW service schedule with OEM parts will certainly help. Suspect that when many if these cars are out of warranty, they also stop getting serviced to BMW spec. Had BMWs for 20 years and use BMW servicing. BMW discount parts by up to 40% for older cars. The total cost of servicing and convenience of using BMW is worth the uplift - an uplift that won't be as high if prevents failures. I have a 2017 540i stage 1 MHD, that still take to main dealer for servicing. I let it warm up (oil temp warm) rag it, then drive calmly for 10m+ to cool. Sometimes put heating to max with AC off and windows open. Brake pads/disks and tyres get from a reputable independent.

    I’m planing to get into this same car (40i)
    Planing to take it to 100k 120k miles and do all the maintenance that I can on my own.
    Just like you, we don’t mind getting our hands dirty.
    For the amount of money Ima spend on a Acura MDx
    I rather throw it on a x7.
    And parts are very similar in price surprisingly.

    What’s your overall opinion with your beautiful x7

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I got it with 45000 miles (I think) and we are close to 60000 miles now. I've been pretty happy with the car other than a few quirks I've mentioned in the "I complain about my BMW X7" video.
      I'd say you get a lot more of the money with the X7. I drove the MDX and a few others similar models, but the X7 was the most fun to drive and felt the most quiet luxury inside and out, which I prefer.
      People get caught in $1000 services as the dealer will charge you $200 to change the filter, but If you don't mind doing some of the maintenance and work yourself, it's a great car!

      @iWaxMobileDetailing-hm1je หลายเดือนก่อน

      For mods no, u can make right under 450wheel on a gen1 b58 with just a downpipe and a tune, n55 u need chargepipe, intercooler, and downpipe to safely go stage 2, and will still be making less power. I just bought a used gen1 2017 b58 powered 440i for 24k, with 50k miles which is worth the price difference in the b58 to n55, I’d spend the extra couple grand, now gen2 b58s are a completely different story as they are around 40k, then a n55 would be the obvious option money wise, comparing oranges to apples at that point

      Actually, BMW is ranked as the 7th most reliable auto company out of 20+ companies selling vehicles in the US, according to Consumer Reports magazine. Since their collaboration with Toyota before the introduction of the Supra, BMW's reliability has steadily climbed. Also, in one of CR's recent issues, BMW is now ranked #1 overall regarding:
      Quality
      Performance
      Efficiency
      Reliability
      Interior
      Infotainment
      Ride comfort and interior quietness

      @@davepaturno4290They literally rate reliability of a brand new car with 0 age and 0 miles, lmaooo. The newer ones are plagued with ridiculously expensive coolant leaks. Once they start to age.

      @iAlwaysSpeakTheTruth Of course they rate new vehicles. If the generation is new, CR holds back rating the vehicle until they accumulate sufficient data.

    Smug BMW shill: "...but like any engine...."
    300,000 mile Acura: "hold my beer"
    I was raving about this engine as well but if they wanted to take heat insulation seriously then they wouldn't use an aluminum block. An iron block (as seen with 2JZ) would probably be the solution to every problem.

      Acura? Does not drive anywhere close to a b58 equipped BMW, not even in the same league. 300k Acura how many times have you had to replace the transmission? lol

      @@james10165 The power steering pump broke once, and now at >400k last I heard [he] wasn't driving it anymore. My guess is the transmission finally crapped out.
      But okay, [his] formerly owner E39 530 did drive a little better than his 2011 TL, but the Acura definitely drove better than an E60 5 series 🤮.
      His E39 once needed a new alternator, and then there was a dead cylinder. And then something else happened and that's when he got the Acura TL shortly after. He said he'd never buy another BMW ☠️😂

    🥸Disposable product because they don’t want it to last past 100k miles to sell you another and for used car buyers to buy parts.

      Tell us you're stupid enough to pay someone else over $100/hour to work on your car without telling us, bro.
      These engines are made for automotive enthusiasts. Unfortunately, they are also sold to elitist schmucks like yourself who use them as a status symbol then complain about reliability any time basic maintenance has to be performed.

      Not true my N54 has lasted almost 140k miles and I’ve seen N55s with 300k miles. Most bmw owners I know buy parts from FCP euro not the dealer.

      Absolute BS. If change the oil every 5k and do the maintenance as prescribed, you should get 200k out of the motor.
      I did out of an S52 and the incredible S54. That is with countless runs on the Tail of the Dragon, cross country trips and track days.
