🎉Can you make a video that is brutally honest about the B58 RELIABILITY weaknesses. No sugar coating but make a list top to bottom and talk to the viewers as if to convince them not to get it. But in the same video go over the steps you would take to fix those issues (bulletproof your engine) to prevent those issues from happening like the PCV delete example you gave. Please let it be focused on your best RELIABILITY build (preventative cheat sheet) for DAILY driven cars with everything stock except maybe with a high-flow catted down pipe and conservative tune on regular 91-93 octane gas (no E85). Goal is to make the engine last up to 300k miles if possible, what would you do?
The reason is, I am coming off of a Lexus with 283k miles mixed street and highway which has never given me issues except regular maintenance. It’s hard to believe just idling would cause a bmw to mess up but if Toyota is okay with the B58 then there must have been a lot of improvement worth making the switch.
Shortly after getting a built engine and ramping up boost, car started smoking on restarts. Took off the breather cap, diaphragm was split. Found lots of oil in the intake. Did the pcv delete and never looked back. No more smoke, no more oil anywhere, catch can stays mostly dry. Pcv delete is definitely a great upgrade for this platform. But I need to find a way to fit that engine cover back without cutting. Maybe lower profile fittings
I appreciate the uploads, I’ve been highly considering a Supra or 340i for a fun daily driver while I build up my planned Turbo Mustang GT build and I feel like the knowledge you give in this platform is amazing. Keep it up!
Your videos are really helpful, only issue I’m getting is now when I replace the rubber diaphragm like you did in another video with the rubber mallet on top. I don’t get any suction from the valve cover, the rubber diaphragm does not get sucked in. Any idea what could be the issue for there being no vaccum ?
What’s considered “gen 1”? Long story short was in an accident wasn’t at fault in my civic.. had like 4 days to research what car to get and I ended up copping a 2020 M340i XDrive with the dravit gray/blue caliper/black split 5 spoke combo. Not sure if there’s a year split oss. I’m just super fresh to the bimmer gang and I want to at least have full bolt ons with a dyno tune. Reliability is my main concern and main thing I see people upgrade is trans and downpipe lol. I’m assuming this PCV reroute/delete applies to my car, is there anything else that people tend to swap out?
Kern, thanks for the video. Quick question. For those of us who are running catless and smoke a little more than others normally would with an OEM cat, how would you be able to tell if you're having a PCV issue?
Been wanting to get one of the Ross kits for a bit now. Definitely need to get it before the new turbo is installed. What’s your personal opinion on the VS pcv delete kit? *just wondering
Kern great video man, question which do you recommend the Ross kit with the Catch can or with just the hoses venting like you have set up ? I have a 2018 340i E50 tuned
Hey, im just wondering. what happens with the crankhose you talked about that goes back into the turbo, that fitting is there a clip for that because in the second part of the video you showed the hose with red filter on it. so in the turbo inlet there was the original crankhose fitting, do you also have a plug for that?
the 2nd part of the video is a different car. The ross racing pcv delete kit comes with a rubber cap that goes on the hose. you don't remove the hose completely.
I have VS first gen pct delete looking to upgrade to the new Ross one with catch can. would I have fitment issues trying to switch over as people say or should I be okay?
@@kern417 thanks bro. I’ve been getting alot of head pressure and it’s been dumping a lot of smoke out the exhaust even with the pcv kit. Hoping upgrading could help out
Somebody mentioned that it's not as common for people outside of the US to idle for long periods of time. You only really experience this when the poor venting at idle causes problems.

Definitely like more videos covering reliability topics for us people who just daily with these great engines.

Some people have trimmed the cover so it fits

If you haven’t dropped something down in your engine bay then you haven’t worked on your car 😅
One of the first tools I learned to be invaluable was a good strong retrieval magnet!
Im excited to see what you do with this car!!!
Thanks!

Does the basic kit withOUT catch-can work any better for cold climates?
Great video! Thank you!!
Thank you.

Kern, thanks for the video. Quick question. For those of us who are running catless and smoke a little more than others normally would with an OEM cat, how would you be able to tell if you're having a PCV issue?
The smoke will be significant. Like a thick cloud. Normal smoke evaporates pretty much after it exits the exhaust
Been wanting to get one of the Ross kits for a bit now. Definitely need to get it before the new turbo is installed.
What’s your personal opinion on the VS pcv delete kit? *just wondering
I believe vs revised theirs so it's better but i like my Ross Racing one

It's just personal preference

11:45 is when i put it on
I wish someone would do this mod on the b46/48 engine. Great vid though.
Should be basically the same process
Does a Vargas one-way valve oil cap help enough with releasing pressure

Not the one's I've seen

@@i_villa7967 not recommended without their valve cover that deletes everything
Would you recommend this if I live in cold climates in Winnipeg here it gets -15 to -40 sometimes in the winter
stock might be better in the winter
You think you would leave oil marks when you park?
No
On the B58TU we don't have that cap next to oil cap to do the vent. How would you vent the TU?
He literally went over it in the video. You need an upgraded valve cover
is it compatible with an other admission kit?
I have VS first gen pct delete looking to upgrade to the new Ross one with catch can. would I have fitment issues trying to switch over as people say or should I be okay?
Sometimes when you remove the OG one it can break the tabs. Reach out to VS and see if they can convert it to the latest design

Will the engine cover still fit after this mod? Seems like it may be in the way...
No but some people have trimmed the cover to make it fit
Will this eliminate the blow by Ian getting in my charge pipe?
It probably won't stop blowby, but with the catch can option it'll stop recirculating it into the chargepipe and go to the catch can instead
Does this mod effect my ability to pass Smog Check in California?
It may not pass a visual inspection but it doesn't throw any codes. If they just plug in your car they won't know.
Will this fit with a front strut brace ?
Depends on how it's routed
do you recommend this on a m340

Near bottom of the description or in the DIY video linked in the description

I have a x 340i what can I do to it??
What year
@#01 as long as it's f chassis it'll fit
@#01 I didn't know if they meant to say m340i or if they were saying XDrive 340i. Or maybe it was a typo
@kern417 2018 60k miles!
you can give it to me.
Ross racing discount code?😅🥲
Unfortunately no 🥲
Would this be a good idea for my 2017 m240i ?
Yes
