    Im wondering if there isnt some electric type solution to this problem. plugging the heads seems like a good thing to start the problem is that venting is just a poor way of dealing with this. originally when the pcv system was first added to cars it extended engine life substantially its critical system to longevity especially with a turbo charged car. i once saw study that showed a certain amout of horsepower gain for every inch of vaccuum you can put on the crankcase. what about getting some vacuum from the exhaust for this. that is what i did in my last car and i never had issue with pcv system. try placing a boost gauge on your crankccase you may be surprised

    Just to be clear, if doing this on a gen 2 b58, a oil cap breather should be used, correct?

    Hi Kern, with the pcv ports plugged, what does it now change interms of catch tank, vent hose setup? I have the ports plugged, run 2 catch tanks; 1 for the valve cover pcv breather and 1x for the bottom crank case vent... It still is dumping oil into my intake intake pipe. do I need to use a vented pcv cover setup? Your response would be very helpful to put an end to this nightmare I am having, thanks alot

    Is this really a problem? Do the Gen II Supra guys with big top mounts running 7-9 seconds 1/4 mile times go this route too? I guess I've never heard of this being a problem but I don't follow the builders like P2 and others for what they are doing on their builds.

    • @kern417
      @kern417  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Running higher hp increases boost and the risk of damaging the valve cover.

    • @kern417

      It is a PCV failure. Like i explained in the video, running higher boost pressure can cause it to fail.

    @kern417 - hey mate are the TU B58 2 port supra motor prone to oil consumption issues or is it because the stock 0-20w oil is too thin? got alot of blow by as well.

    • @kern417
      @kern417  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. If you have a lot of blowby then it's likely a bad valve cover

    So the pressure stays in the combustion chamber? What is now compensating for that pressure?
    Also will that work for the B48 engine too?

    • @kern417
      @kern417  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      if this is your first pcv mod, you'll want to add another vent for positive pressure. it works on most any bmw engine, but the pcv vent solution will vary.

      I'm not sure there's enough space to do that in those holes or the holes in the valve cover. Someone would have to Design one with stronger flaps.

  • @tylercernik
    @tylercernik ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Vaccum on the crankcase is so important it helps seal piston rings on normal driving so the engine has less blow by, u are just creating more of a problem and will be burning more oil and have more blow by

    • @kern417
      @kern417  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Incorrect

    • @rickjohnson4457
      @rickjohnson4457 ปีที่แล้ว

      Incorrect, almost every diesel engine vents directly to atmosphere as there is no vaccum on those engines. They also have a longer average lifespan compared to gas engines..

    • @tylercernik
      @tylercernik ปีที่แล้ว

      The "vacuum" increases the pressure differential across the ring package, producing an improved ring seal. Just look it up thats why high hp guys making 3000hp run vacuum pumps or use there dry sump system, the main reason this was popular on n54 engines is cause of build up on the intake ports

    • @kern417
      @kern417  ปีที่แล้ว

      The vacuum makes it more efficient. That's why it can run through (6) 1/4" ports in the head.
      When converting to VTA, you compensate by switching to (possibly multiple) -10AN outlets for enough venting. Like I said in the video you can never have too much.
      But when a vacuum system is inefficient or unreliable, you convert to VTA to keep it simple and reliable. I have no excess blowby after converting to VTA. If you do, add more vents.

    • @tylercernik
      @tylercernik ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kern417 I don't have any issues cause I'm still using stock system cause its has zero issues making 800hp, one vta smells horrible for a daily and two if u live in the colder weather depending on hose lenght to your catch cans the hott engine vapors will condense into water filling your catch cans and possible freeze the lines, it's a horrible setup all around for a daily car.
