Again, you two are exhibiting remarkable stamina and perseverance. I couldn't handle either the traffic or the rain and the two together would have me bailing out. Thanks for hanging in there and best of luck!
Your beginning comment about tent sizes was spot on. I solo and pack an MSR Hubba Hubba NX. It's a 2-person that's huge, bulletproof, and right around 4lbs with a footprint. I can sit inside on my Helonix Zero chair, plenty of headroom. Big enough for the two of you to "keep warm". Take care, Crackerjack.
That no shoulder road walk in the rain 😬!!! Sorry our state has been so unpleasant!! Makes me want to see about working on some better trail connections through here!
Incredible determination trudging thru those 10 soggy miles. Watching this reminded me of you two crossing the Shenandoah River outside Harper’s Ferry on your ECT hike. Of course, that was in a monsoon. This part of the country doesn’t seem to treat you well from a weather standpoint. - Geo
Jen’s friends and family at home: Hi Taters, how was your hiking trip? “I walked in the rain for 5 days straight” And she’s still all smiles This woman definitely loves you lol
Oh my gosh, that is some miserable miles that you both hiked! I hope the weather will get better soon! Both of you deserved that hotel room!! Praying for better weather!! Stay safe and take care! I can’t thank you enough for all that you do for the videos. God bless ❤
Ok , you guys got me this time ! Even as an eurohiker who mostly makes fun of your rainstorm levels , i have to admit that this is even for me "zeroday" level ! Hoping your phone survives for the video's .😄
Plenty of room to ventilate. A tent said to add ten degrees plus no wind-chill. Unless three season. So a smaller tent tracks less air inside. Less air to heat. A larger tent would be cooler. Plus more room for the roo!
I must confess: I did not have "KILLED BY NASA SPACE DEBRIS IN A SAFETY ZONE" on my Bingo card, so thank you for NOT scaling that NASA fence and camping in a potential debris field.
Fun Fact: The Secret Service has detained me, not once, but twice! ( I had the murder hobo look in the late 1970's and was working for Jimmy Carter and it freaked a lot of folks out )
Well, Maryland does have the world record for rainfall in 1 minute @ 1.23". I think every Marylander is cringing on the way you pronounce a lot of the names around there. 🙂

Many hotels and motels will loan you a box fan for the night. This can expedite drying without resorting to freezing cold a/c all night and freezing the Tatars. Just ask.
Don’t really follow any of the hiker influencer folks. I don’t hate umbrellas I just have a pet peeve for folks pushing situational tools and trying to get folks to spend extra money / carry gear they end up quickly getting rid of. And umbrella and solar panels fall into that category quite often
I don’t know if I’m just desensitized to them but we haven’t had a single close call. If it is a really small shoulder, I will step off into the grass. If somebody doesn’t move over to give us space. Is what it is and it gets me to the next Prittie section.
re: Chruch camping Have you considered just asking EVERY church along the way, in advance, if you could stay there if need be? ( instead of seeking permision for a single night - i cant see any church minding unless there was a service the folllowing morning )
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes I was thinking a mass email to all the year before the hike - but maybe northern churches are not like the southern ones Church camping is less than ideal anyways except in emergencies - too visible and cat holes can be iffy
Better moisture management at the cost of less warmth. I’ve found it works a lot better for me unless I’m on something like the CDT with really cold storms. Currently carrying both
I love you guys but walking those highways in the rain (dark) is - in a word DANGEROUS. Some idiot can hydroplane and you won’t stand a chance. Good luck and be safe.
You’re missing my blaze orange rain skirt, orange pad above my head, and bright pink trail gaiters. I also walk facing traffic and if a car doesn’t move over I step off into the grass. It’s a risk but so is being on a shoulder or sidewalk if someone looses control
Hey Y'all. "Hiking across the country? In this rain?" "Why yes, we looked for the soggiest weather slot to start out, with possible tornadoes, thinking the weather only gets better from here!"
Again, you two are exhibiting remarkable stamina and perseverance. I couldn't handle either the traffic or the rain and the two together would have me bailing out. Thanks for hanging in there and best of luck!
At a certain point it gets so ridiculously bad all you can do is laugh. I think either alone might have actually harder…
Tater rocks. That smile is unstoppable. Great adventure!! Thanks for sharing.

It wasn’t that bad. Busy traffic roads aren’t my favorite but it went through some really pretty farmland and forest

What a nightmare of a hike. You truly are a masochist! LOL
There are multiple signs that this is the worst part and things are going to change pretty majorly up ahead

Walking that close to traffic would make me nervous, not to mention the sidewash!
A lot of drivers move over in the lane when they see us. If they dont we usually step off onto the shoulder. I couldn’t do it not facing traffic
Note to self: if hiking the ADT bring waterproof socks! Keep it up!!!
I must confess: I did not have "KILLED BY NASA SPACE DEBRIS IN A SAFETY ZONE" on my Bingo card, so thank you for NOT scaling that NASA fence and camping in a potential debris field.
Poor Jen had a "Soggy Break" instead of a "Spring" Break.
There a reason our channel stickers say “Attitude is the difference between and ordeal and an adventure” :)
That's a lotta watta

Mariland Matt! We don’t know who Mary is. Crazy, glad you were able to dry out.
Day 8. The Bishop and the Good Sister hike in major downpours and floods.
To quote Mary Lou..."Those kids are amazing!"
It's cool seeing you walking past places I have driven or biked or walked past thousands of times.
You are the masochist! If anything this video makes me never want to go east of Mississippi ever again😂
Well, Maryland does have the world record for rainfall in 1 minute @ 1.23". I think every Marylander is cringing on the way you pronounce a lot of the names around there. 🙂
The worst part of watching this on time delay is knowing that the weather will continue to be dicey for the 10 days.
Keep on keeping on and stay safe
It’s always something out here. It’s actually improved the last few days and the next storm looks a bit more mellow at least for the moment

After watching your vids I would say that the chances of me attempting the ADT have gone down. 😄
Which is worse? All the rain or all the ticks and mosquitoes in Minnesota last year ? I hope your hike improves exponentially very soon.
Minnesota wasn’t that bad after the first week…
A lot of higher in trail cameras, will send images or videos straight to a mobile device. Real time.
I’ve seen those but they generally have a not so great range. Not sure how monitored ones along remote roads would be
"Kyle hates hiking" also hates umbrellas. What say you?

This trail must be the most dangerous of all the trails. I think you need more orange and a flashing light.
Those road shoulders... scary

I know those rumble strips well. 2x a day.
Lol, that is a total drICU once you got to the hotel!

Jen has a 20k battery. I have a 10k + a 24k. We charge during stops
This really looks like a cross-the-country bike route, not something to hike.
It is going to change up ahead. This looked to be one of the worse section
Has to be the worst long distance “trail” in America.
bad weather this year
I’m sorry your Maryland memories will be so soggy!
That was basically how the AT went and Jen still loves that to this day. I’d be happy with a bit less rain though…
Moisture management with camp massatation
"ADT" American Discovery Trail or Almost Developed Trail?
Ask forgiveness not permission.
If a Christian church won't let a traveler stay they aren't Christian to me
I was wondering why do you wear a "rain skirt" while hiking instead of pants ? Is there a benefit to it ?

Can't rain all the time
I think the road noise would bother me more than anything on these road walks.
Bringing AirPod pros has been a game changer for that. Drove me crazy in the Keys
At this rate can this be completed
I love to hike, but not enough to do that your voice is getting a little rasp Goodluck
