    This may be off topic but, those train tunnels are so well-built. You don't often see craftsmanship like that today. I hope you are doing well.

    On the east coast it was probably pouson ivy rather than poison oak. Poison ivy has three leaflets on each leaf and makes thick hairy stems when it climbs up the side of trees. Older vines on trees will put out their own branches away from the trumk. Vurginia creeper is another possibilty and would not be concerning. It has five leafkets on each leaf. It climbs trees with thicker trndrils, but lacks the hairy look of poison ivy. It tends to climb trees and their limbs bu wraping around trees many times, bit does not me make indepependent branches.

    I met a guy walking in North Dakota on one of my bicycle trips who was a sign painter by trade. He had a two wheel cart that he pushed along the road. He said that in parts of Wyoming, he would get stuff thrown at him as he walked along. He said that he found out why this was happening, It was because people out there thought he was a Mormon Bishop reenacting the cart trains of Mormon settlers that traveled over the Mormon trail. A couple of hundred of the Cart people froze to death before reaching Salt Lake City one year.

    When I was a more avid runner, Butt Paste was my nickname because I used the stuff so much. But it's really better for healing it after it's occurred rather than preventing it. These days, I swear by Squirrel's Nut Butter. Apply it in the morning, good to go for the day.

    Have you tried using Glide to combat chaffing? You can get it at running stores. I've used it for running long distance and it is the only thing that really works for me. I use it for hiking too. Also works on feet to prevent hotspots. Highly recommend it. Comes in a deodorant type stick. Put it on liberally in areas subject to chaffing. Reapply halfway through the day or every three to four hours if really hot day.

    Poison oak only exists on the west coast (OK, that is where you are from so you are excused). Poison ivy on the east coast, but same urushiol which causes the rash. Poison Ivy actually has a good reason for being. Poison Ivy climbs trees - that is those very hairy vines - and when it does, it will bloom at the top and produce lots of gray berries which are great food for birds.

      I’ve heard good things about those but I’m not really the biggest fan of Tolkien. I’ve read them and keep up on enough deep lore from the supporting books to tease Jen about her childhood fantasy reads. Vs I grew up reading things like Dragonlance and Death Gate. Which sadly will never get a halfway decent audio performance

    So many run down and in need of maintenance houses and mobile homes. Some look like they could be nice if some effort was made. It'll be interesting to see how different (or not) things will be in other states as you move west.

    • @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes

    • @edwardkuenzi5751
      @edwardkuenzi5751 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In cities, substandard housing tends to be multistory buildings, while single family housing tends to be so expensive only those who can afford to maintain them properly can afford to buy them. In rural areas, almost everyone lives in a single family home, including the very poor.

    Is the chafing issue in addition to a separate issue from jock itch? I am seldom plagued with either one. But I have always found the sure shot. Cure to be 3 days and nights at a Holiday Inn. Express sitting out by the pool with plenty of UV exposure. 😉 But seriously. Is it more of a friction and moisture issue or a fungal issue?

    • @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes
      @FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve had fungal issues before. See the Suwannee paddle. Hiking it’s usually run of the mill chaffing though it’s different depending on the location and weather conditions. Time off cures everything but alas, always on a weather based time limit

    All you can do is be respectful and empathetic to women who are nervous, which you are. ultimately women have to be on the defense. It’s not because you’re necessarily doing anything wrong though.
    I wonder if a TH-cam logo patch would help. That and a cross that’s visible. I know I wouldn’t want to wear one, but they work. My buddy hitch hiked across the country, and his Christian college id did help. lol you could do a Velcro patch and just take it off when you don’t need it. I knew someone that would keep a cowboy hat on his dash while road tripping to look more like a good ol boy. I have a Remington camo hat I put on my dash when I road trip. When in Rome! lol

    For a professional hiker that has spent the majority of the last 4-5 years on one trail or another you consistently come off as someone that really hates what they are doing. I've watched every episode of every single one of your hikes and all you ever do is bitch, moan, and complain. I don't know if I've ever heard you express happiness or joy about what you are doing. If it makes you so miserable why are you constantly doing it? If it brings you happiness and joy why do you never, ever express it?

      You are a terrible human. If you don't like it, watch something else, or at least be quiet.
