Another Great Review Mark- I'm a little Biased as I've owned 8 BMW's and only 1 MB. All in all, I believe that BMW is a Driving Experience that MB and Audi can NEVER match.
You're not biased, Neil. That's the truth. I've owned all of them (A6, SL, 6 Series), I choose BMW. I've owned 10 cars from 9 different brands, so I'm not a fan of a certain car make, but I'd choose BMW over the other two. On the other hand I love my XF too, so for me Jaguar trumps them all ☺😆.

I've owwned both, my first new Mercedes 320d, I loved the car, next was Mercedes slk300 horrible experience always in the shop, moved to bmw next first was 2014 328d great car, then 2017 m240i convertible absolutely fantastic car, my newest is 22 x3 msport 3.0i, so far after 8 months, no issues, I think the dealership makes a difference as well, hated the Mercedes dealership, bwm dealership bends around backwards to keep me happy
I own a 2014 320d, xdrive. Besides regular wear & tear, the DEF system acted up, it's been a quality vehicle. How was your experience with yours? Any major issues? Is it reliable?
We have both. A 2020 M340i BMW and a 2020 C300 MB, the MB lives in the shop with continuous electrical demons plaguing her with only 3400 miles on the odometer. The BMW has never had any problems. We will never buy another Mercedes again
I hear alot of people say on Facebook....they will never buy a another bmw....am sorry that happen to you.....traditionally , Benz is the greatest. Keep driving that bmw....hand me the keys to the Benz....I will get it rectify thoroughly.
I have driven a couple of German cars. Mercedes Benz is better than BMW, I am currently driving a C200, 2012 model & planning to upgrade to a newer SUV Mercedes Benz.
I always loved BMW’s. As a kid I use to push BMW cars on the floor. My family owned BMW’s. I have an E60 I owned over 12 years and still loving it. I am looking for an X5 the 2018 model Sdrive 35i. I think that body style look better than the G05. I sat in the G05 it felt smaller than the F15. I was worried about the B engines hearing about cracked Heat Management Modules, oil filter housings pouring coolant , more plastic under the engine than the N55. It’s too soon for me to try a B engine, I hear a lot of good things about it, but those vehicles are still under warranty is the reason why we don’t hear the bad.
I just got my first BMW after owning 4 Mercedes for the past 9 years. So far I love my 2023 bmw x7 m60i SUV. Does not compare to the top of the line flagship Mercedes that I traded in 2020 GLS580. Love my BMW - the SUVs not compare. The new 2023 BMW is pretty amazing and drives so much nicer than the GLS . And the BMW is so smooth yet sporty, especially when you get the M engine and throw that baby in Sport mode. Can’t speak to the cars or sedans. Just owned SUV.
@@ECPP thanks- Benz GLS was very boaty and lofty feel. The 23 x7 is just more fun to drive, hugs the road, and also feels cushy and Lux. But it’s actually nicer suspension than GLS580, Plus the sports mode for the M trim is just plain fun! It takes off! And even makes that sports car sound!
Pretty damn good objective comparison! As a veteran of both, I think you are spot on! I might add that BMW (not sure about Mercedes) many years ago, had to increase their basic warranty to account for all the crap that was falling apart. In other words, they put their money where their mouth is, and forced themselves to build in more reliability - the cost was on them, with these extended warranties. I also had a first-year 550 8 cylinder twin turbo. It ATE oil. I got out of it within a year. They kept saying it would get better! Ha! Saw that one coming. You can’t beat the Mercedes interiors. Soft leather, but the crap DOES fall apart, even worse than the sticky buttons on the old BMWs. All that said, I am currently in a BMW X5…and have had zero issues. The last few years, I’ve gone back to BMW, BUT, don’t you think that the general public PERCEIVES Mercedes to be in an altogether higher class of automobile than a BMW? Maybe I’m wrong, and I have had several of both, but it seems that people (even me) kinda perceive Mercedes to be higher up the food chain. And, it was my experience that the required maintenance (not covered by Mercedes) was more expensive at the dealership. Hence, my Merc was more expensive to own. Your thoughts?
Had 11 BMW and 9 Benz. I couldn't disagree with you more, BMWs are money pits, never had issues with any of my Mercedes, none. My father who owns a German repair shop gave me this advice long time ago, he said you buy a BMW when you are young then graduate to a Mercedes because you want people to respect you and your wallet will love you
3. Series over c class 5 series over e class S class over 7 series Gla over x1 Glc over x3 X4 over glc coupe X5 over gle X6 tie gle coupe Gls over x7 This my picks lol
Nothing beats my 1998 MB 320E....finally fell apart at 400,000 + miles. My daughter just leased her second BMW 3, tried to talk her into a Lexus but failed. Thank God it wasn't a Mercedes. Really enjoy your detailed comparison and your personal experiences with these cars. Thank you so much.
I think you nailed it, Mercedes just has a much better luxury aspect and bmw has a better sports car feel. So which one would you prefer? I would pick a Mercedes because of the luxury, if I wanted a sports car then there are better options out there.
the way I look at it is. BMW builds their cars from the wheels up and Benz builds from the roof down. Drivers enjoy the road dynamics of BMW while others preferer the interior and appointments of the Benz ...personal choice
Mercedes is boring luxury and BMW is a luxury PERFORMANCE vehicle come on people understand the difference !! My mom loves Mercedes and I love bmw both German luxury cars but two different luxuries
I owned an N63 650i. I put a little over 100,000 miles on the car and the only engine issue was the need to replace the ignition coils which cost $1,000. That was it. No battery or timing chain issues - nothing. Maybe I got lucky
I’m like him I owned over 60 cars, you name it I owned it. Benz is business BMW is sporty however I never had a Benz failed I can’t say that for BMW M5 went out at 75k needed a new engine.
The problem with BMW is it's reputation. Cheap plastic parts marked up by the dealer, expensive repairs. Mercedes is relatively well made. Look at Honda's and Toyota's. They are impossible to buy right now. Why? Because you get in that car and it will start, your dash won't look like a Christmas tree. My new 22 civic that I took delivery of last week is worth more than I paid for it.
@@ECPP I don’t think I am able to give an educated answer because I never had a Mercedes but I had a BMW. Only had it a couple years but if I had to choose, I would go with Audi
I’ve a BMW X3 G01 Msport package, so, the car is great and have no issues. The unique problem is the crazy brake dust after few miles and the black piano from the dashboard is very sensible for scratchs (even with microfiber towels). The Mercedes GLC 300, GLS 450, C300 and others (except the genuine AMG versions) is already come from the factory equipped with ceramic brake pads (ATE or TRW). So, this is a milestone between these two german brands. BMW need to pay attention to this feature: ceramic brake pads are much better than semi-metalic, with better brake capabilities, long-life for rotors and much less brake dust. Keep your eyes on this. They want more visit to their dealers and more brake parts to sell. That’s why ceramic brake pads is still not assembly in all cars.
BMW is the king. Mercedes is the car brand that makes BMW the greatest between the two. When it comes to performance cars in the same class, BMW is a league above. Don't forget that BMW's base price is higher than that of Mercedes, which says a lot about demand.
Been in the car industry since 86, Mercedes until 96 was the best cars made, the quality from 97 to 05 was very bad, BMW passed Mercedes in quality in the late 90's and forward, now they are quite similar, Mercedes for comfort and BMW for sport, but I own a black series and that's sporty to! In general I like them both
For the last 20 years, I’ve owned and driven Lexus, Mercedes, Audi and even Porsche and Ferrari. I just put a new order for Mercedes last week. I test drove BMWs and never desired to own one. It’s just my preference I guess.
There are some great Benz cars such as e63s, s class, and amg series. G wagon is interesting too so I guess you could say I like a bunch of their cars too
Well BMW’s are more fun but mercedes are quite a bit more reliable. I Have never in my life seen a BMW taxi, but i have countless times seen Mercedes taxis. i think that says alot. But off course reliability isn’t everything, and BMW’s are surely decent reliability wise.
Owned a 3 series and knew what car big problems look like back then. Now riding a Merco and it’s a joy to have unless I get somehow a grip of that new Z4
I go for the rounded body style, more than chiseled lines., hence I prefer the Mercedes. The Mercedes mimics the smooth, uncluttered look of a bubble that passes through the wind smoothly with a lower coefficient of friction.
all thought bmw is no where as reliable than a lexus it hold up pretty well.Used to have a 2013 bmw 535i rwd, it was ok it had over 200k miles still ran but had transmission problems and you are 100% right about the buttons turning into sticky ticky buttons lol. But I will get a LEXUS over both brands.
BMWs are more fun to drive but are they more reliable in the long term? Mercedes drive like trucks, although the GLC300 can move. Debating btw my X3 or the GLC300.
My 2015 650i with 80k miles I bought seems to be going strong so far (knock on wood I love you bmw don’t fail on me)😂 I got that specific model because of the technical update
Change oil frequently and don’t forget to warm up the engine and cool it down before and after each drive 2 bottles of oil in the boot and you’re good to go, I loved my 650 and now drive an M6 haha
Genesis beats all others, I have 2018 G90, zero problems, replaced tires at 50,000 miles everything else original at 60500 miles, uses no oil, 27 to 28 mpg on regular gas, more comfortable than S 550 I traded for it. Still has original brake pads and battery. 365 hp twin turbo V 6. Is very powerful and smooth.
When your BMW goes in for service it get’s serviced and that’s it. When your Mercedes goes in it is checked against a spec sheet and database to ensure it should operate as a Mercedes should. Mercedes also make most of their own gearboxes and service them in-house. Sadly, the golden age of Mercedes has long gone when the most reliable engines and cars were made. It’s all cost cutting these days from the underpowered amplifier in the BMW Harman Kardon system on the G20 and to the cheap plastics in the Mercedes that scratch so easily.
You are right, there really was a time but that has started to sail. With that said , from what I have seen is they have actually come back from a dip in really bad products such as American made vehicles in the late 90s
For me the comparison comes to the generation of the cars and the model level. For example with the if we look at the medium size sedan level it would be C-class vs 3 series. When BMW had the E46 and Merc had the W203, the E46 was better in many ways than the Merc. Then Merc came back hard with the w204 which I think was better than the E90 BMW. The C63 of that generation was simply Beast in every possible way! I must say though Merc is really about style and 'class' while Beemer is for the enthusiasts and extroverts.
BMW driver here. You showed the X2 and stated it had true dual exhaust. If you look at your camera footage, you'll see that the exhaust you panned down to was a dummy. Any X series below the X3 has a dummy right exhaust tip. Also the extra Roundel on the X2's C pillar seems to be an homage to the 70's CS models. Why? You got me but there is historical presidence.
I like these with certain engines but overall an X5 40i is the one to have with its B58 engine is pretty hearty, BMWs do t rust as easily and the general hardware feels more robust. Do NOT GO WITH THE V8 BMW unless you need to have the M version
@@jldp24 Well if we are talking about cost, yes BMW do depreciate and can be cheap to buy. But good luck maintaining it, as Marc stated before $150 for a rubber hose ridiculous. Lexus do have a luxury interior, that of course is subjective but from what i have seen their interiors are well made. In terms of performance depends what you buy a luxury car for. Lexus are excellent cruisers and extremely comfortable, one of the definitions of luxury.
I have had 3 Mercedes and 2 BMW’s . My personal experience is the Mercedes was less reliable and more expensive to maintain. Motor mounts wore out at 26,000 miles in a $100,000 Mercedes? Not to mention ABC suspension issues. I will continue to stay with BMW.
I have owned both brands, as well. Looking back, I would have to say the Mercedes was very practical and very well built. Additionally, I had an independent mechanic, which is key, that knew Mercedes very very well. My sons took their driving test on a manual shift Mercedes 240D. The thing was built like a tank
I actually totally summarize that question on a recent video I did on the channel called”BMW finally has a reliable engine”. If you like have a look at the main page and search videos. Long and short, the B58 is a lot more solid than previous engines.
I own both but now as a lifelong Mercedes fan bmw has now taken number 1spot to me I own now 2 series grand coupe love it drives better than any c class to me the grand coupe is a 450 e class love it

I don't think I'll be buying any new mercedes because of their 4 cyclinder forced induction route they've taken. I am hesitant to even trust German electric cars. We owned a 2013 i3 as well and it always had a few hiccups.
Another Great Review Mark- I'm a little Biased as I've owned 8 BMW's and only 1 MB. All in all, I believe that BMW is a Driving Experience that MB and Audi can NEVER match.
That I agree with for sure other than maybe a c63s.
I hear u but Benz holds a much stronger place in history than any other carmaker on earth.
I love Both. German Engineering is amazing and drives better than some exotics I've driven over the years. Porsche is amazing as well. If I had to choose as if you'd look in my garage you'd see my BMW M5 Competition, 550i and X5m as well as a 230i.
Very nice and some very cool choices in there. How about the new 240?
@@ECPP I'm actually in the process of selling the 230 to replace that with the 240. I want to see what the B58 motor can achieve tuned on E30.

I hear alot of people say on Facebook....they will never buy a another bmw....am sorry that happen to you.....traditionally , Benz is the greatest. Keep driving that bmw....hand me the keys to the Benz....I will get it rectify thoroughly.

@@ECPP traditionally....Benz is the greatest....a message to everyone.
Cheers
I just got my first BMW after owning 4 Mercedes for the past 9 years. So far I love my 2023 bmw x7 m60i SUV. Does not compare to the top of the line flagship Mercedes that I traded in 2020 GLS580. Love my BMW - the SUVs not compare. The new 2023 BMW is pretty amazing and drives so much nicer than the GLS . And the BMW is so smooth yet sporty, especially when you get the M engine and throw that baby in Sport mode. Can’t speak to the cars or sedans. Just owned SUV.
Very very nice indeed
@@ECPP thanks- Benz GLS was very boaty and lofty feel. The 23 x7 is just more fun to drive, hugs the road, and also feels cushy and Lux. But it’s actually nicer suspension than GLS580,
Plus the sports mode for the M trim is just plain fun! It takes off! And even makes that sports car sound!
Exceptionally thorough, as usual, and very well researched. You trully know your stuff. Thanks, Mark.
Thank you very much Wayne, I really appreciate that
Facts I bought A 2018 bmw 540 and never had a problem
My father who owns a German repair shop gave me this advice long time ago, he said you buy a BMW when you are young then graduate to a Mercedes because you want people to respect you and your wallet will love you
3. Series over c class
5 series over e class
S class over 7 series
Gla over x1
Glc over x3
X4 over glc coupe
X5 over gle
X6 tie gle coupe
Gls over x7
This my picks lol
Very nice. A little bit of either and that’s an interesting assessment
For me, it would depend on what generation but I'd usually lean to BMW
Waaooo You got the info

Benz is the greatest....the world should know
Nothing beats my 1998 MB 320E....finally fell apart at 400,000 + miles. My daughter just leased her second BMW 3, tried to talk her into a Lexus but failed. Thank God it wasn't a Mercedes. Really enjoy your detailed comparison and your personal experiences with these cars. Thank you so much.
If money wasn't an object than I would consider a Maybach.
Pure luxury absolutely and a Pagani parked next to it in the garage
I owned 2011 Lexus ES350. No repairs except maintenances in 12 years . I bought a 2022 GLE 450 last month because of its big logo.
BMW= Drivers car with luxury elements, Mercedes= Luxury car with drivers car elements.
I would agree with that
Benz is the greatest....a message to everyone
I think you nailed it, Mercedes just has a much better luxury aspect and bmw has a better sports car feel. So which one would you prefer? I would pick a Mercedes because of the luxury, if I wanted a sports car then there are better options out there.
100 percent
If u want a sportscar,get a Porsche..that is what I would say
the way I look at it is. BMW builds their cars from the wheels up and Benz builds from the roof down. Drivers enjoy the road dynamics of BMW while others preferer the interior and appointments of the Benz ...personal choice
Absolutely that’s sort of the bottom line
Mercedes is boring luxury and BMW is a luxury PERFORMANCE vehicle come on people understand the difference !! My mom loves Mercedes and I love bmw both German luxury cars but two different luxuries
I owned an N63 650i. I put a little over 100,000 miles on the car and the only engine issue was the need to replace the ignition coils which cost $1,000. That was it. No battery or timing chain issues - nothing. Maybe I got lucky

Wow that is cheaper than maintaining a 5 series.
Some other times it depends on how you use your car

I’m like him I owned over 60 cars, you name it I owned it. Benz is business BMW is sporty however I never had a Benz failed I can’t say that for BMW M5 went out at 75k needed a new engine.
I agree, BMW seems a little more fragile from the drivetrain perspective
Why did you have so many cars?
Traditionally....Benz is the greatest
The problem with BMW is it's reputation. Cheap plastic parts marked up by the dealer, expensive repairs. Mercedes is relatively well made. Look at Honda's and Toyota's. They are impossible to buy right now. Why? Because you get in that car and it will start, your dash won't look like a Christmas tree. My new 22 civic that I took delivery of last week is worth more than I paid for it.
You are right and for a daily, they are pretty safe to run for your wallet
I love both. But I choose BMW. I have my bmw 318i 2010 model.. still going strong!😊

It is very difficult to choose no 1 car between the BMW & Mercedes. Both are good. But the price of both cars is very high.
Which is better? BMW or Mercedes? After viewing your video on these vehicles, the answer is clear: LEXUS 😊
For reliability but which in your opinion is a better car aside from repairs and maintenance costs?
@@ECPP I don’t think I am able to give an educated answer because I never had a Mercedes but I had a BMW. Only had it a couple years but if I had to choose, I would go with Audi
@@mr.foxwiz1653 Audi is worse for reliability in my opinion
Teue
BMW is the king. Mercedes is the car brand that makes BMW the greatest between the two. When it comes to performance cars in the same class, BMW is a league above.
Don't forget that BMW's base price is higher than that of Mercedes, which says a lot about demand.
Cheers
Been in the car industry since 86, Mercedes until 96 was the best cars made, the quality from 97 to 05 was very bad, BMW passed Mercedes in quality in the late 90's and forward, now they are quite similar, Mercedes for comfort and BMW for sport, but I own a black series and that's sporty to! In general I like them both
B58 FTW. Bulletproof motor and the G-Chassis cars are solid! Mercedes motors are now dealing with broken pistons and cracked cylinders etc etc.
Thanks for sharing. Time will tell on these Benz issues, or if they are isolated events
@@ECPP it’s always a gamble with German luxury cars but they just drive so good

2 bottles of oil in the boot and you’re good to go, I loved my 650 and now drive an M6 haha
Genesis beats all others, I have 2018 G90, zero problems, replaced tires at 50,000 miles everything else original at 60500 miles, uses no oil, 27 to 28 mpg on regular gas, more comfortable than S 550 I traded for it. Mercdess look better right now👌🏻👌🏻🇩🇿
I totally agree, they really stepped up their game and BMW is slipping
Who the hell would say BMW🤷🏿♂️

Me!
Saw you driving that X2 in your video and eating your mcdonald ice-cream yesterday. Keep up the good work!
Haha, very nice, where was that?
For me the comparison comes to the generation of the cars and the model level. For example with the if we look at the medium size sedan level it would be C-class vs 3 series. When BMW had the E46 and Merc had the W203, the E46 was better in many ways than the Merc. Then Merc came back hard with the w204 which I think was better than the E90 BMW. The C63 of that generation was simply Beast in every possible way!
I must say though Merc is really about style and 'class' while Beemer is for the enthusiasts and extroverts.
Thanks for sharing. Yes certain gens were great and others were slugs
