Hello Thomas. Hey, I know it's a lot to ask but in Dubai there is a First Motors car dealership. and there you could make many videos.
My mom bought a new E53 X5 when I was in high school and I learned how to drive in that car. It got to 200K miles and my mom traded it in for a smaller X3 because she didn't need such a big car anymore but liked the elevated driving position of an SUV. Now I'm done with grad school and have worked for awhile now, my first new car purchase was this new model X5 and I absolutely love it!

So I did not have a hypothetical decision, but a practical one to make. I live in New York City and six months ago my 21’ M550i went back after the 3 year lease expired. We needed more room, and decided to cross shop the PHEV variants of both offerings. The GLE is equipped with a 4cyl and the X5 50e is on offer with an inline 6 cylinder (B58). Needless to say, I am the happy owner of a 2024 BMW X5 50e with close to 500hp and 700nm of torque. Sapphire Black with Sensafin Oyster seating. M Sport Professional pkge with 21” wheels. It looks 👍 and has the beans when you pin the peddle. Highly under rated vehicle! Great comparison Tomas!

Went by my local dealership yesterday and they had a ‘25 X5 with most of the options I wanted- Same color as this review car. Very happy, it’s beautiful!!
I own both, actually, and I also prefer the X5. I’m a taller man and just prefer the extra room in the front drivers seat over the rear legroom. Both are fantastic but the X5 is more fun to drive for me.

I have the X5 50e, and I love it. No regrets
Going to ordering one is the transition between electric and gas smooth ?
@@woodpecker6452I also have a 50e. The transition between gas and electric is seamless. I have to look at the icon on the screen to be certain if it has changed or really step on the throttle to hear the engine revs.
And keep in mind that in x5 50e, you can press the ELECTRIC button that would allow you to go full electric to 143km/h and the petrol engine would start only after the battery is depleted or you make a kickdown to the throttle pedal. Few plugin's have this feature!
having 2021 BMW X5 and drive it so far 60,000 miles , no problem till now, perfect seat ,had oil service only and nothing else

I can summarize this for you: Cayenne handles and drives better than X5 (probably around 20% better). Cayenne is around 40%-60% more expensive than X5 if equipped equally. Cayenne service is much more expensive too. If money is not your concern, go with higher trim level of Cayenne and add all options. You should test drive X5 M60i before making decision.

Thanks for the detailed review. I have the 2024 X5 LCI, very nice driving experience so far. It also allows me to make a phone call from within the car even if I forget to bring my phone, that is a brilliant feature.

X5 15 years ago and a few weeks ago…it drives “ trucky” !! Feels like hood sticks out on road….GLE less that way …seats are more comfortable in X5 but Merc interior and exterior…so much better….pure class…although someth8ng about Merc dash seems TALL…. I like the way my old 2009 ML 350 drives!!! More light and nimble…but need s9meth8ng new ,,, hmmmmm ?
Honestly I'd take the gle because it's great looks, gorgeous interior, back looks awesome. Idk about the price but if I'm getting the gle with that kind of money and I can cope with the reliability issues np. So yeah I'll take the gle no doubt.

You should address the lack of option or adaptive suspension professional for the G05 LCI. Even in Europe not possible unless you order an M60i or X5M. BMW gave you test car (m package diesel) and it had that option which is otherwise not possible to spec. Great reviews man, keep it up!

Thomas I miss the old place next to the woods and road you used to do reviews at! It's more scenic and beautiful I think but I kinda understand why you have chosen this place instead. And by the way you really look good with beard!
The thing with Mercedes is that the base price is already expensive but feels cheap so you have to add optional extras, and people forget that Merc is a luxury car company, luxury cars must be fully spec for it to feel luxurious, so all the scratchy, hard and cheap feeling parts you must pay extra for them to feel soft and expensive, most people will buy a merc with no option so they can feel rich. I would take the merc if I had the money to afford all the options.
Cant pay extra to get those things sadly. I've never seen any "better plastic" option or "less creaky panels".
The BMW X5 hands down! Top of the class man. Believe you me, the X5 is the one to drive! We test drove that GLE and it is horrible to ride in the back. It bounced around and made my wife and I motion sick. Driving it was ok, but not nearly as fun joyful to drive or ride in the front seats as in the BMW!
BMW owns Rolls Royce. Go figure how that is going to end and is currently going! 😆
Great review. I have a 2019 X5 (purchased certified pre-owned) and to keep it short - it's the best car I've ever owned all 'round.
My wife has a 440i and it's damn brilliant. But not as useful, clearly. Would not hesitate to own a newer X5 in the future.

I'm a Bimmer, but my dad would go for the Benz, both of these SUVs are great, with careful driving, they could last for decades no issues at all...
A super review that hits all the nails on the head. I appreciated this review as I was torn with deciding between the two: cabin refinement when new goes to the gle. Nevertheless the X5 plug in hybrid is the one to have. For sure.

Love my BMW 2024 X5…esp with m sport package. My next car will probably be an X6. Love the new updated interior that BMW is doing…before the updates to interior I was considering a GLE. I’m happy with my choice!
Thanks for the great review. It's the X5 all day. Just one small remark, the split tailgate is not meant for picnic 😊 it is actually meant for easily opening the tailgate when the car is close to a wall or a vehicle from the back.

Would have been very interesting to throw the new Cayenne in this comparison as well so you have all 3 different platforms, even though it is a bit more expensive I think its an interesting alternative.
I can’t say that I’ve driven either but from the looks of it, and just how seating comfort is most important to Thomas, the driving position is most important to me and it seems better in the GLE. Even though my wife and I own two BMWs (X1 and 328i), I just don’t like how BMW positions its steering wheels in terms of angle… they are just too slanted forward.
I would prefer the X5 as well. Having owned both a Mercedes and BMW's. Feels sportier and as you mentioned the seats are way more comfortable.

I’m a Benz guy. Like both of these, but frankly a Volvo XC60 may be a better value than both. And, as a guy who’s 70+ years old, as much as ease of entry may be better in these high riders, I’d rather have a wagon/estate everything else being equal. They handle properly, are going to deliver better economy, and likely will be a bit more comfortable insofar as lower wind noise and less buffeting from crosswinds. To each his own. I would also spec the same appearance packages as you have them. The BMW-style packs are so over the top and look somewhat ugly. They look less angry/aggressive and more upset.

The rear axle steering unfortunately is not available. Yes it is on the options list but it cannot be ordered. It seems chip shortages are still and issue.

12:59 I noticed the cargo cover is way below the top of the seats. Very weird.
Not wired, is the same in so many cars, and to note, they need to cover everything neat and below back windows, also backrest is higher than others hence it looks lower
I have a 2021 GLE 350de hybrid with air suspension and AMG line…currently 50mpg (5.6litres per 100km) and about 50 miles electric range. Very hard to fault except the 4 cylinder can be a bit harsh on acceleration. I do think the Mercedes will last longer but time will tell! Both great cars and very difficult to choose between the two…

A lot of the GLEs have dual sunvisors with the main one able to slide out. I wonder why this was not equipped with it.
Maybe skipped with the facelift?
Many of the 2024 US models appear to have them in the face lift. It's option code:
543 Sun visor with additional function
Maybe it's an EU regulation.

Rear axle steering is not available on the X5 based engines like the 30D, 40D or 50e. It’s only available on the 60i, Thomas.
It is available for all models, theoretically, it's just that at this moment they have supply chain issues for this part

Might also depend from market to market, its sometimes strange when they have limited supply they sometimes offer it only for certain engines and/or for certain markets
